Fruity Trivets

When I was at Purl Soho in New York I put my name down on their mailing list and since then have been receiving their fabulous newsletter. They feature so many gorgeous yarns and books and patterns, but they also have an amazing 'how-to' each issue.

So I thought I'd share the link (you can sign up for the emails on their site) and show one of their features which I love... the fruity trivets :)

Aren't they fun?

They have step-by-step instructions on their blog for the knitted version here
and the crochet version here

So cool :)

And being a super-duper shop and all, you can even order the kit as well.

Their blog The Purl Bee has all of the features and tutorials too if you'd like to wander through them. Such a fantastic resource. Hope you like it :)

Loving Phat Knits

Thanks for all the great comments on the Postmodern Granny. I do see what you mean... it is still fabulous regardless of its 'fakery'. But for me, my kids actually summed it up by quoting Mighty Boosh "Elements from the past and the future, combining to form something not quite as good as either!"

Anyway.... a new find for you. Something I think is totally fantabulous... Phat Knits.

Now this is what I call innovative and exciting... I guess it's still 'elements from the past and the future' but I think it really works. Gigantic knittery... I want! :)

They were specially created by artist Bauke Knottnerus (I have a feeling there's a pun in there somewhere!) for the Unravel exhibition at the MoMu Fashion Museum in Antwerp, which runs until 14th August this year.

Can't you just see yourself lazing around on this?... oh and having the kids dive bomb you every five seconds of course... maybe I don't want it after all! ;)

Inspiration: Mangas Rugs

I am totally smitten with these Mangas rugs from Spain. I first spotted them here and was so inspired I started crocheting immediately.

I love that they are randomly patterned and yet structured at the same time.

And then, just when I thought they were gorgeous little cushion-shaped things...
I saw the images below...

They are huge!

I don't have a hook this big but I'm still working away at my inspiration :)

I Knit Brisbane!

Some more pics of the craftiest thing that's happened in Brisbane for many a year... 800 crafters from all over the city have wielded their needles and hooks for installations around the CBD. From the simple crocheted green heart popping up in the most unlikely places to the full-blown yarn-bombing of statues and public art, I have to say I'm feeling pretty proud of my birthplace at the moment. Maybe it isn't so bad living here after all... ;)

More information and photos can be found here and here.

Tuesday adventures :)

Remember how I mentioned a couple of months ago now that a guerilla knitting and crochet event was being organised in Brisbane? Well, it's happening! I had to pull out because of work commitments, but I did get a chance to appreciate the efforts of others today on a little walk around the city. Now, I would have missed it completely had it not been for this lovely lady... Kate from Love You Big (pic below!). Kate emailed me saying she was in Brisbane and intending to amble around the city and could I suggest anything in particular. So, we met up and went for a walk this morning... it was Tuesday's adventure, and look what we found!

Knitted glove for the public art piece on Eagle Street!

A crocheted green heart ring for the companion public art hand.

If you'd like to find out more about the events and workshops being held in Brisbane's Saviours of the Lost Arts fair, visit the Bleeding Heart website – they have a full list of all the workshops here. Thanks for a grand Tuesday adventure, Kate! :)

Hey Brisbane knitters + crocheters!

[click on image to read more clearly]

Brisbane has a guerrilla knitting project coming up! I'm very excited about this and hoping to take part in the crochet side of things. Maybe there are some Brisbane knitters or crocheters out there who haven't heard about it yet? At the very least I'm hoping to find out all the wheres and when to be able to post about it, so stay tuned. If you can't get the image to open in larger format, the email contact is jennine@ladybugmarkets.com

Hope to see you there :)
