VIRTUAL COOKIE DIVA!

The Virtual Cookie Exchange organized by
Carol at Just Let Me Quilt begins today!
I happen to be the first of many bloggers who will share
their holiday recipes, traditions and fun!

I have been a COOKIE DIVA since 2000

I hosted Christmas Cookie Exchange Parties
with my girlfriends for 10 years.
This is a pic from the last year...when
I presented each sweet friend with her own
"Cookie Diva Apron"

My party was not your typical cookie exchange!
I prepared and served a complete meal,
made each guest a "handmade" party favor,
made Cookie Recipe Books (using their recipes) for all
AND I decked my halls with as many as 17 Christmas trees.

COOKIE DIVAS had to bring 6 dozen, of 1 cookie
(no duplicates...they had to call asap with recipe)
NO store bought, NO no-bakes, HOMEMADE!

Dress in the party theme...different FUN theme each year!
Girls dressed in everything from Santa's Suites,
to this Christmas Mouse

I had wonderful prizes every year for best dressed, best cookie, etc.
Sew many wonderful memories with my friends.

The "Vintage Apron Theme" was one of my favorite parties.
I asked each girl to wear the apron and then gift it to me.
They each signed a muslin square
with their name and the year we met.

I wouldn't tell them why!!!
I made this Memory Quilt with Friendship Stars
using those aprons and signed squares

Here's the label

Of course, because of these parties the girls
crowned me "The Cookie Queen"
I have a special "cookie baking" apron...

I have many cookie recipes to share with you today
They are on my Sweet Celebrations tab...

But THIS cookie is a favorite!

CHRISTMAS IN JULY

It's a Christmas in July Blog Hop
hosted by Carol over at Just Let me Quilt

I wanted to make a couple Modern Christmas tree blocks
for an upcoming guild swap
and selected these fabrics
(outside of the Christmas red and green box)

It began like this...Man, these are gonna be great blocks
for the Columbus Modern Quilters Block Raffle.

THEN, I did NOT lay out the pieces right for cutting.
Correct layout for cutting - both pieces RIGHT SIDES UP
I laid them out RS Together...
I often engage my rotary cutter before my brain.

I could still sew them together, but then had to trim them down
smaller than what the finished block should be.

What will I do with these blocks now?
THEN the "Christmas in July" block hop
ah-ha moment happened.

I added red fabric all around so I can square them up
to 9 1/2" squares and make pot holder loops

I found some dark gray fabric in my stash for the backing.
Cut 2, 9 1/2" squares

You need 2, 9 1/2" squares of Insul-brite
and 1, 9 1/2" square of cotton batting
for each Pot Holder

I used the Pot Holder video tutorial by Crafty Gemini
just click here for full instructions.

This was my first attempt at Pot Holders
and they turned out OK.
I think next time I may leave the batting out.
They are very thick (which is good for heat) but
sewing 5 layers (more on the loop corner) is a pain.

I did stitch around the Christmas tree
to give it a little quilting dimension.

All in all...they are OK
They are for me and my oven!
I have two more to make...or maybe they will
become mug rugs...😏

I still want to make the Modern Christmas Tree Block Quilt
and have been collecting fabrics.
I did make these blocks for the
Columbus Modern Quilters raffle...

I didn't win.😔

If you want to see the Modern Christmas tree blocks
and the amazing quilt you can make...

BAGGY FLOWERS

I can never resist a fun blog hop...
especially when FLOWERS are involved.

Carol, of Comment #21, is the WINNER
(random generator seltor)
of my fabric scraps giveaway!
The contest is now closed.

When Carla over at Creatin in the Sticks
asked me to join the fun with flowers..
I jumped into the dirt
and found these beautiful flowers in my stash.

I decided to make a special friend a retirement gift
as my project for this hop!
The flowery fabric seemed perfect for the
Noodlehead Poolside Tote.

I used the larger print for the exterior of the bag.
I was out of soft and stable, which makes the bag very firm...
So I used a layer of SF101 and Cotton Batting.

Worked pretty well.
The lining had to be the big polka-dots!
I just used SF101 on the lining and pockets.

The interfacing piece can seem intimidating.
Read the instructions carefully and follow the basting steps!
Yes it is a couple extra steps to add a basting line where
the pattern indicates, but sew worth it.

I like to add a key fob to my totes
and if you use your zipper foot to sew it
you can get really close to the key fob metal
without hitting it.

Turned out great!
and since she just moved into apartments...
I am pretty sure she will have a pool.
Maybe I will go visit and take a dip!

Thanks for stopping by today! Leave me a comment
and tell me if you prefer the pool or a beach...
you can enter to win my larges pieces of leftover scraps.
(Sorry, US only)

For a complete list of hop participants
head on over to Creatin in the Sticks.

Now for the bad news...something is going on with
bloggers NOT receiving notification of your comments.
Up until a short time ago...I always got your comment
in my email inbox.   Not happening right now.
Sad for bloggers sad for followers.

I will return here to draw the winner of
the fabric bundle on June 20th.
And if I can reach you by an email I will.

If you don't hear back from me specifically to your comment,
please know I will be reading them here in the comments below.
I won't have time to actually look up emails to respond.

DID SOMEONE SAY SMALL?

Winner has been drawn by random number generator
Comment #1
Thanks to all for leaving a comment!

BIGGER IS BETTER?
GOOD THINGS COME IN SMALL PACKAGES?
WASTE NOT, WANT NOT?
Today is the bog hop for small, smaller, smallest projects

and I'm going small and scrappy!

I have lots of scraps and two projects for you today.

IF you make it to the end of this post...

there is a giveaway!
Thanks to Carol over at Just Let Me Quilt

for hosting this hop!

Small Smaller Smallest

Of course I have some projects...

but I also have some links to fun and quick small projects.
Lets begin with some scrappy fabric coasters.

Sewed together HST from my scraps and

sized all to 4.5" squares

and then folded them like so...

Here is a link to my tutorial that will show you

step by step on how to make coasters from charms

(5" squares) Make sure to see how I do this!

Here is the finished "small" scrappy coaster (3 1/2" square)

--------------------------------------------------
Anyone need a small thread catcher?

I love this one that I received as a swap extra!

Sew for this hop...

I grabbed my scraps and made a tutorial...

SMALL THREAD CATCHER TUTORIAL
Start with 2, 10" squares...
Remember, I am using scraps, sew
I pieced together fabric scraps to get them.
The pink seabirds...has SF101 on the back!
Don't care...it will work for this!

I needed a template and found a local map

to cut a 9  1/2" triangle template

Laid my two squares, one on top the other
Template on top, cut the triangles.

Right sides together, sew 1/4" seam allowance all

around, leaving an opening to turn...
Trim the points off before turning RS out

Once turned RS out and pressed
Top Stitch 1/8" around

Place two points together and mark 2 1/2" down and marked

that spot with a straight pin.
From the fold sew up to the straight pin
Repeat for the other two points

It will look like this when all 3 sides are sewn

kinda origami..right?

Now finish it by securing the tips with buttons.

It's very small and fits nicely in your sewing kit.
You can really make these any size that you want.
Just cut your two squares larger and make the triangle
to fit inside those squares.
