Shower Cards

Hello, I hope you're having a great day.
Today I'm showing you some handmade cards that
Kelsie got for her shower.
She and Brad really appreciate when things are
handmade and I always love to see what others make.
This card was made by Brad's Mom.
I love the color combination.
Such a pretty card.
Love that she added this butterfly on the inside.
This card was made by my friend Judy.
She always does a beautiful job on her cards.
Color coordinating the inside of the card and
a lovely sentiment really finish this card off nicely.
Isn't this a lovely card?  So pretty and delicate looking.
Adding a little pocket inside is perfect for giving a
gift card.  Love this idea.
I'm always impressed with the cards that others make.
So different than my own style, but I love them all.

Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you
have been inspired in some way and will come again soon.
Until then,
create a card for someone you love.

Cute Little Pocket Tutorial

Hello everyone!
I haven't done a tutorial in ages and thought this was
such an easy little project that it would be one
that everyone can make.
These cute little pockets are easy and quick to make.
You can use them to hold a note for hidden journaling,
to hold a tag or a picture, or maybe a piece of memorabilia
on a scrapbook page.  They are also great to use on cards
for a gift card or a little note or even a tag on a gift.
Use them in any way you can think of.
The larger one measures
2.5"x3.75"  the smaller one is 1.25"x2.25"
You can start with any sized piece of paper or
card stock, as long as it is square.  This one is
5.25' square.
Fold square corner to corner and crease.
Then fold the opposite way and only put a small crease
in the center to show where the center of the
square is.
I have marked the center here to show where it is.
For mine I measured 1.25" from the center on each side
along the crease and marked it with a pencil.
Now fold corner over to meet the pencil mark on the
opposite side.
Fold both sides over in this manner.
If the corner is extending over the edge fold,
I snip it off, both inside and outside.

Now fold it along the crease and you have a cute
little pocket.
I glued my pocket backs together from top to bottom,
but if you'd like a little slide through area, you can
just glue them together at the peak area only.
This is a piece of paper I had in my handmade background
stash. I wish you could see the shine this has,
it's really beautiful in real life, but doesn't show
the shine in the photo.
I didn't like the back of the paper, as it was white and
a mess with random ink spots.
I took another scrap piece and glued it to the inside of the
pocket to cover the messy area.
Here are a few of the pockets I made in various sizes.
This is a larger pocket that I made with a piece that
was approximately 12"x12".
Again the back of the piece was a mess, so
I cut off the top peaked part of the back and
glued it inside the pocket.
Here you can see where I cut it off and then
glued the bottom to the back of the pocket.
I had 2 small pieces of background paper in my
stash that I made with shaving cream and alcohol inks.
I loved how they worked together, so I glued the 2 pieces back
to back to make this little pocket.
It turned out really cute,
but.......
since it was 2 pieces glued together, they were a bit thick
and didn't fold well and split at the bottom.
I did score them first, but they still split.
So, just be aware that this can happen.
If you want the inside and outside looking
pretty, this may work with paper rather than card stock,
or you can use double sided paper or card stock
or use the method I used above.

Thanks for stopping by today,
I hope you have learned something new today
and maybe will give these little pockets a try.
Until next time,
make someone smile.

Multi gift card holder

Hello everyone!
I hope your Christmas shopping is done or going well.
As of this writing, I still have a bit to do
and one thing is to buy the gift cards for this
little holder.
Every year we give my Aunt Marilyn, who is 93 yrs old,
gift cards.  I get several cards for restaurants like
Subway and Wendy's for her.
She loves it and every year I come up with another
gift card holder for her.
In the past I have done this one and this one
and this year I made the one below.
I got the idea from Kristina Werner's blog
in her post for
I made 2 of the double card holders and adhered them
to each other.
I then cut a cover for them and adhered the inside with
I made a small "cover" for the edges of the
part where they were taped together, just
to give a more finished look.
I threaded a piece of craft twine through a button,
used foam tape to adhere the button to the front of the
card holder and wrapped the twine around the
card holder and then around under the button to hold
it closed.
I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.
Now I just have to get the cards for it and get it
sent out to her with her other gifts.
Sure wish I could be there when she opens it.
I know she'll like the gift and she always
appreciates the time I take to make a unique
card holder for her.

Thanks for stopping by today.
Not long until it will be Christmas,
my favorite holiday!
See you again soon.

I didn't necessarily purchase from these sites,
except where specified,
and you may find better prices elsewhere,
I am in no way promoting any particular site.

Now that all the particulars are out of the way,
on to my projects.
I have 2 projects to share with you.
The first is a gift card holder/birthday card.
Since I don't have the equipment for a video,
this post is very heavy on pictures.
But hopefully you'll find it worth your time.
Starting with a piece of red card stock  11" x 4 1/4"
score along the long side at 2", 7 1/4" and 7 3/8"
The insert piece is white card stock cut to 6 1/2" x 3 3/4"
score along the long side at 1 3/4" and 6"
Burnish all the score lines.
(If you click on the picture, you can see that there are
actually 2 folds very close together.)
punch a notch 1" from each side on the smaller flap.
Use Washi Tape along the bottom of the small flap,
close to the fold.
The tape should go all the way around the card.
This is not only decorative, but it holds the flap closed.
I used 2 pieces of Washi Tape on my card I think it
gives it a bit more security and also looks more finished.
Place strong adhesive along the small flap of the
insert piece of card stock.
I used Score Tape, but use whatever works for you.
Line up the edge of the insert right along the 7 3/8" fold.
Use Glue Dots at the corners of the flap that makes
the pocket.  This will make a pocket for the gift card.
The insert can now be slid into the pocket,
the card front will stay closed when
tucked behind the center flap of the pocket.
To decorate the front of my card,
I cut 4 Happy Birthday sentiments with my
Silhouette Cameo out of white card stock.
I ran them through my Xyron sticker machine
and layered them on top of one another.
I then coated them with VersaMark ink ,
covered them with silver embossing powder
and heat set them.
The Happy Birthday was adhered directly to the front
of the card.  I also cut some stars and
embossed them, they were adhered with foam tape.
On the inside of the card, I stamped
"Celebrate" which is from a very old
Scrappy Cat  stamp set.
You can see, when you open the card,
the pocket with the gift card pulls out.
Here is a side shot showing how the
gift card goes down into the pocket.
I think my son will like this card,
I made it for him, we'll be celebrating his
birthday on Sunday.

Now for my 2nd project.
Did you know that you could stamp and use
Distress Crayons on canvas.
This is my first time doing this and I know
I'll be doing more of this technique.
This canvas is very small, only 2 1/2" x 3 1/2"
First it needs to be prepped with Gesso.
The Distress Crayons blend out much better
when it has the base of Gesso.
I used a sponge paint brush,
but you can use whatever is available to apply
the Gesso, or whatever base you might like best.
Since this canvas is mounted on a wood frame,
I had to fill in the back with pieces of cardboard.
This gives a firm surface to stamp onto.
I used my Mini MISTI
to stamp one of the birds from
onto the canvas with VersaFine Onyx Black Ink
It did take a couple stampings since it was onto canvas.
(The set I have is not this same set, it is one that
I found that has 3 birds, 3 matching dies, a few
word stamps and an embossing folder.
The set is called Bird Talk.)
I used the Distress Crayons and laid down a little
color around the sides of the bird.
Using my water brush I blended out the crayon.
This is what it blends out to with a little bit of water.
I then added another color and blended that out.
I dried the crayon between layers and continued to
add color until I was satisfied with how the bird looked.
These are the colors I used for the project.
As you can see I colored some "dirt" under my bird
and "sky" on the rest of the canvas.
The sentiment are words from the
Bird Talk set.
I did use the fine tip of a black Prismacolor Marker
to go over the lines of the bird,
as the crayons did dull it a bit.
I'm very happy with how my little painting
turned out, especially for a first time effort.
I hope you have enjoyed my projects and are
inspired in some way.
Thanks for sticking with me through this long post.
