Record Store Day 18 April 2015

Poster lukisan Man Assault

Beberapa gambar event RSD dibawah.

---------------

Operasi muzik KDN lagi

Originally posted in Vinyl Passion group in facebook.

------------

RED ALERT!!! Please read...

The last few weeks I got to know that some of our member packages being detained by KDN (at KLIA) under the ruling of Quranic texts. Yes, most of them are Black Metal music. However, since the officers working at KLIA are music-deaf they cannot differentiate Black Metal at all. As long as it LOOKS like Black Metal to their opinion, they will confiscate. Yes, so sad thinking of the ignorance of these officers.

BLACK METAL to them:

1. Cover artwork with monsters, zombies, hantu galah, hantu kom kom and King Diamond (Elly Rocker take note)

2. Loud guitar music with growl scream vocals (ANY kinds of music not necessarily BM bands).

Also they will check,

3. The song titles and lyrics. Even ONE f**k work printed, considered illegal and must be confiscated. I don't know about others like pussy, cunt, dick, butt, blowjob and so on but I guess this is more like porno DVD to me hahaha...

4. If there is a graphic of tits or butts or genitalias. I had my Motley Crue CD confiscated because there is a collage of naked woman body with male head in one of the pages of the booklet and it is a very small one at one of the edge of the booklet hahaha (it is a dumb collage for duck's sake, if I remember this, I still laugh at it).

I can say this because I had SOME (not FEW) packages being confiscated since I've been ordering music for the past 15-20 years. I confronted them twice. Both unsuccessful if the music you ordered has those 4 elements. The latest, I had a meeting with the director of that particular KDN department and a Jabatan Agama Perak ustaz in Ipoh and the meeting went for about 3 hours. Yet, to no avail.

Nowadays, if I got a letter from them, I just show my finger to the letter and forget about it.

But did I stopped? Of course not. It makes me more determined (but more cautious). It makes me appreciate the music more.

Now, I think this is SEASONAL because so far orders have arrived safely. It has got to do with the political climate at the moment. When the politics get excited, the officers also got excited you know... they need to be at the same level.

Balachandran Rajasaharan please guide your son to be the KDN minister la bro so we can order Bathory and Celtic Frost LPs safely. No problem, we can wait for 20 years for him to finish his study.

For the rest of you, have a nice Sunday and keep that hifi cranking, LOUD!

RECORD STORE DAY: Pop Yeh Yeh - Psychedelic Rock from Singapore and Malaysia 1964-1970: Vol. 1 (2LP)

To me, this is a strange release. I don't know anyone in the US would ever care about Malaysian music, less the 60s era. But here it is, specially waxed for RSD 2014. I found it at Academy Records in one of my trip to the USA. I bought 4, one is for me and another 3 for the vinyl enthusiast who were eager to get it before the price go astronomical. Yes, limited to 1000 copies. Gonna get the Vol 2, definitely, if it is going to be released, hopefully NOT during RSD as the price will not be cheap.

DETAILS
Format: 12" Vinyl
Label: Sublime Frequencies
Release type: RSD Limited Run / Regional Focus Release
More Info:

First time on vinyl. Malaysian beat, pop, & psychedelic classics from 1964-1970. Features 1960s Malaysian music legends Adnan Othman, M. Osman, Zaleha Hamid, and many more. 2LP heavy gatefold jacket with gorgeous and informative full-size 12-page full-color booklet. Compiled & researched over an 8-year period by Carl Hamm. Featured in Spin Magazine's list of Best Box Sets and Expanded Editions of 2013! "The overall sound is light and breezy, as was the production of that time, ideal for transistor radios and a far cry from the bass-heavy sounds of today. Let me again stress that the magnificent booklets are full of great detail about the artists, history of the scene, wider economic context, record cover art, and photographs of the groups. They could easily form the basis of a lovely book." --PopMatters (7/10) SOURCE

Until now, for some unknown reason, the psychedelic rock movement in Singapore and Malaysia, aka Pop Yeh Yeh, has never been given the worldwide attention it deserves. This compilation- Pop Yeh Yeh – Psychedelic Rock from Singapore and Malaysia – 1964-1970 – Vol. 1 - is the first of its kind to focus solely on the Malay rock groups of this region.

The Pop Yeh Yeh era, which took place roughly between the years of 1964 to 1970, coincided with the rapid modernization happening at the time in Singapore and Malaysia. (Sublime Frequencies has already released many incredible compilations from neighboring Indonesia, so it’s about time that the Malaysian groups got some attention!) Pop Yeh Yeh artists instinctively cross-pollinated electric sounds of the West with Malay melodies, and added their own local poetic voice to the lyrics they wrote – sung in Malay (and sometimes Bawean). The Pop Yeh Yeh musicians started out playing in styles inspired by Western groups like the Beatles and Cliff Richard, but they eventually succeeded in creating a sound all their own – a sound that is not only accessible to the Western ear, but also retains an undeniable Malay personality.

Nearly eight years in the making, this compilation was exhaustively researched and compiled by Carl Hamm and features 26 classic tracks of the very best bands and singers from Singapore and Malaysia’s Pop Yeh Yeh era, including M. Osman, Orkes Nirwana, Adnan Othman, A. Halim, Roziah Latiff and the Jayhawkers, J. Sham, Hasnah Haron, Zaleha Hamid, and many more. This CD edition comes in a tri-fold digipak with gorgeous artwork, two 40 page booklets with insanely extensive liner notes including band/artist bios, an overview of the era, translated lyrics, and plenty of rare photos taken from vintage magazines, album covers, and the artists’ own personal collections. Maksud Record Store Day (RSD)
