How to store Arches from a Swap

One of the swaps I participated in last year with our OWSE group was them monthly Arch Swap.
As you can see they were all fabulous!  The uniqueness of each person's arch was wonderful!
I wanted to save them.  At first, I thought I'd make a mini album.  They are embellished so much-the album would be way to thick or I'd have to make more than one.
Keep scrolling and you'll see what I came up with.

I cut a cereal box in half and altered it!  I gently opened it till it was flat, painted the lime green color (acrylic paint).  Had some left over die cuts on my work area, some left over flowers.  I glued the die cut letters on with matte medium.  Outlined them using a paint brush and dark brown gelato.
Turned out really cute!  It holds all my arches in one place.
Thank you girls for the great swap in 2013!  I look forward to our swaps this year.
We getting ready to have a Secret Valentine swap!!  I have a special project ready to go!

New Year's Eve Party @ OWSE

Some of us at OWSE stayed up to see the new year start!
We had challenges all night. It was lots of fun (& laughs)

First we followed a tutorial on Splitcoaststampers HERE

THEN Robyn gave us a whole list of commands that we had to use on something AND we only had 30 minutes!
Commands: rhinestones, dots/circles, flourish, letters, stencils, paint, stripes, lace, the word ENJOY, distress, watercolor technique, angel and glitter
It's hard to see the top of the box, but I covered with my vintage photo distress paint dabber.  Dried good with heat tool and then stenciled Tim Holtz alphabet with walnut distress stain, stenciled the "stripes" with another stencil.
After stamping my angel onto white cardstock and cutting out, I distressed the edges with my scissors. I "watercolor" painted her using Tim Holtz distress pens and my water color pen-love the effect.  Her face was colored with Derwent colored pencils.
I added pearls (dots/circle) to the top of the flourish and rhinestones at the top of her.

Around 11:15PM the challenge was to make something that represents how we want to spend 2014.
AND we only had 30 minutes!!
With my new grandson being born just a few days ago-there's no question how I'll be enjoying my year!
I did a layout.  Did some stenciling on top of cream 12x12 cardstock. Layered several scrap pieces of designer paper.  Had some wooden flourishes and stickers that added that special touch.

It's been YEARS since I was awake for a new year and I really enjoyed spending my time with my crafting friends doing what I love!
I almost forgot-One of our challenges was to wear a funny hat!  Here's the picture of mine!

Thanks Robyn & gals from OWSE!

I pray your 2014 will be Happy & Prosperous.  Put God first and he'll take care of the rest!

Decorate Pilar Christmas Candles

There are several ways you can decorate a candle.
Using Archival ink, stamp your image/sentiment onto tissue paper.
You can color your image.  I used markers and gelatos with a paint brush.
In the past I've also colored with pencils. Even though the tissue paper is delicate, it's amazing how well you can color it without ripping it.
Cut it out as close as possible.
lay the image onto your candle and cover it with a piece of was paper. You want the waxy side facing the candle.  Heat it with heat gun and it magically melts the tissue paper into the candle!
I love doing this-amazes me every time!!
I tried stamping directly onto the candle with a word stamp and brown archival ink.  It ended up smearing off. I think it was the finish on my candle?  I ended up taking a paper towel and wiping it off.   The candle on the left is the sentiment and image (cut two different pieces) and melted them on.
The I took minimal embellishments and added to them.  I was really fun.
Use buttons, ribbon, flowers, lace, cardstock-whatever you want!

You can find the supplies: cardstock, archival ink, distress ink, prima flowers, lace, trim, Kaiser Craft and Graphic 45 Christmas designer papers, ribbon at our store.  Outlaw Women Scrapbook Emporium  PRICES ARE DISCOUNTED DAILY 20-25%

Modeling paste & GIVEAWAY @ OWSE

Outlaw Women Scrapbook Emporium special of the week:  Modeling Paste.

Modeling paste adds lots of texture whenever you use it.

I've used it on my layout on the background paper to add dimension and interest.  I added some paint to the modeling paste & it does great!  Not only did I smear it over top of a stencil, but what was left on my palette knife, I rubbed across the corners to clean it off.  Cool huh?

I layered several colors of cardstock under my photos.  Did some stamping here and there. Love how the colors just make me happy!

Christmas in July-Vintage Tag

Happy Friday!

We're winding down with Christmas in July.  I wanted to share a Christmas tag I made today.

I wanted to encourage you to stretch outside the box on creating Christmas themes.
Today I used Graphic 45 French Country paper for most of my tag. I did sneak in a small square of Tim Holtz paper with the Christmas words.

I have a new stamp from Hampton Arts: Square Face Frame.  I definitely wanted to use her some way.

So here's what I came up with:

I mounted my face onto a piece of cardboard, colored her with prisma pencils.  Coated it with glossy accents.
I have a small piece of cheese cloth in the back, some lace and velvet ribbon on the bottom.  A couple of vintage buttons.
I love how it turned out!
I hope this inspires you to get your Christmas groove on!!

You can find all the products I used at our shop  HERE-Outlaw Women Scrapbook Emporium

Our prices are always 20-25% off retail.

Christmas in July-Mini Album Style @ OWSE

We're still celebrating Christmas!  It's been fun -not sure I'm going to stop at the end of the month! LOL.
Today I'm bringing you a mini album with a different binding technique.  It's made with paper bags.  I've used the cheap brown lunch bags.  Since my style is usually vintage-brown is always a nice backdrop.

Here's the binding tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPscV6GA9wA

There is tons of room in these paper bag minis.  I have only one tag on the inside of each pocket, but you could easily fit 2 more or slide things you want to keep up with inside.
There are tag pull outs inside each bag.  I used three bags.  Cut the ends off and ended up with a 5x5 area to put the designer paper in.  When you glue a corner on a page-only attach the outside edges with glue -that way you can slide a picture under the edge to hold it in place.
Here are the supplies I used from our Outlaw Women Scrapbook Emporium

Tim Holtz Christmas Stamps: holly limb, pine cone & sentiment
MME Christmas 6x6 pad paper
cardstock
adhesive
ribbon
Ranger Vintage photo distress ink
Paper cutter

I hope you like the mini.  It will stand as well as lay out nicely on a coffee table. I love displaying my pictures in such an interesting way.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for stopping by!

OWSE Friday Feature: Mixed Media canvas

It's time for Friday's Feature at Crafting with OWSE!
Today I've used an 8x10 canvas.  I had painted it with acrylic paints.
Then I took some lace and started layering it onto the canvas using mod podge.
You need to coat the lace and the canvas really well.

After it's dry, I used some gesso and spray inks to make areas pop.

I had a frame from MME that I glued on with mod podge.
To make my photo pop I used my finger to go around the edges with gesso.  I love that look!

Added a few embellishments: ribbon, Wild Orchid flowers, buttons.

You can purchase most of the items I used at our shop.  All prices are discounted daily.
Check it out!

Trash to Treasure Mixed Media

Every week at OWSE on Wednesday night someone (usually the one of the owners-Robynann) does a tutorial on a technique.  This week I'm doing a  tutorial.
I was inspired by Lin Browns tutorial on Paper Artsy Here

Started with a piece of cardboard 6x8.  I tore a couple of pieces of book paper and glued it in a couple of spots on the cardboard.
I ripped the top layer of the cardboard to show the inside texture.
I wanted a flower back ground, but didn't have a stencil to use. So I had some extra die cuts from a project I just finished and glued them using glossy accents to create the raised texture.
Get some baby wipes ready..... After it dried, I used 1 inch wide brush and painted the whole top with linen acrylic. Wiped the paint off the area with the words & blended around the edges-dry well.  Blended in golden harvest acrylic paint-using baby wipe to blend and smooth the edges. Dry well.  Using a stencil, I added some spots using vintage white acrylic paint-dry well.

Still using a paint brush, I added some lettuce green adirondak colorwash ink-used a baby wipe to feather the edges.
Added sailboat blue adirondak colorwash ink. using baby wipe I tried to blend together. Added more linen acrylic paint around the edges.
Using my finger, I rubbed antique gold fub and buff around the edges and the flowers.
Here's the close up of all the layers showing.
To finish it up I took my black paint pen and outlined my flowers.  Sponged some Rusty Hinge distress around the edges. Stamped a script stamp around a few areas with brown staz on ink.

Add some buttons with twine to the center of the flowers, punched holes in the top and threaded some raffia thru to hang it with, added 2 layers of butterfly with a pearl center and a little black twine for the anteannae, a Tim Holtz bird and some die cut leaves.  The sentiment came from Stampin Up.
Look at all the layers!  Truly a trash to treasure finale'

This project is going to  new friend that has overcome some tremendous obstacles to start a new life with her daughter!
