Just Us Girls #376 - Trend Week

Hi friends!  This week over at Just Us Girls we are stamping all over!  Bobby chose a great challenge for our Trend Week.  We are seeing lots of small stamps being used to stamp a background.

I saw that Papertrey Ink is releasing a new paisley set, and it got me thinking about this paisley set I have from WPlus9.  I stamped the paisley patterns and some flowers on Bristol smooth white cardstock in Versamark and embossed them with white embossing powder.  Then I sponged yellow and blue Distress inks in different spots around the paper.  The sentiment was die cut four times from black cardstock and layered together.  I also die cut the shadow of the word in vellum and layered it under the black word.  I mounted it on black cardstock then onto a white base.  Sequins and some Spectrum Noir shimmer on the die cut were the finishing touches.

I chose my color scheme from this week's Color Throwdown challenge.

Paper Players #301

Hi everyone!  I had a 1st birthday party to go to today and had to make a card.  I don't have many "kids" stamps, but I did have this one from WPlus 9 that I don't think I've ever used.  I saw the Paper Players sketch this morning and wanted to use it.  I did tweak it a bit.

I started with a piece of watercolor cardstock and masked off a rectangle in the center of it.  Then I sponged broken china distress ink on it and spattered it with water.  The giraffe, balloon, and birds were stamped and die cut from white cardstock and colored with copic markers.  I mounted the giraffe and balloon on fun foam and added Spectrum Noir shimmer on them.  This panel was mounted on yellow cardstock then on the white card base.

Here's the sketch from Paper Players this week.

That's it for today!  Thanks for stopping by!

Time Out #38 - Home Sweet Home Challenge

It's another Thursday in summer...summertime is slipping away!  But since it's Thursday, it means it's time for another Time Out challenge

This week is our Home Sweet Home challenge where we supply a photo and you use it as inspiration.  Look at these fabulous nautical glasses.  I love the nautical look!

I made this super duper fast and easy card!  It took me about 15 minutes to create and I didn't make any smudges or anything!  I stamped the blue lines then the red anchors.  The rope images were also stamped in red.  Then I finished it off with the sentiment in blue.  I was going to add some sequins, but I thought this was more of a masculine card, so no sequins!  I rounded the corners, mounted the main panel on a blue panel, then on the white base.  Easy peasy!

I used last week's CAS(E) this Sketch as my starting point.

Just Us Girls #274 - Word Week

Happy 2015!  Are you ready for more great challenges from Just Us Girls this year?  We'll have them for sure!  This week is our Word Week, and Sharyn has chosen the word "winter".

I broke out this lovely set from WPlus9 for this challenge.  I stamped the tree and snowflakes in Versamark then embossed them with white embossing powder.  The birds and deer were stamped and die cut with the coordinating dies.  I thought the sentiment was perfect for this scene and challenge.

Tag You're It! Challenge #3

I love making tags, so I was thrilled when this Tag You're It challenge blog started.  This week, they are teaming up with CAS(E) this Sketch.

I was at my local stamp store this afternoon and picked up a new paper pack and this anchor die.  Little did I know they would be used today on the same card!  Score!  This tag started out with a kraft tag.  I stamped the rope image in kraft ink then added the pattern paper.  The anchor was cut from another pattern from the pack and white to make it sturdier.  They were adhered together and added to the tag with dimensionals.  I stamped the sentiment in red ink and created the banner end.  It was also adhered with dimensional tape.  The stars were added, and there is some Wink of Stella shimmer on the anchor and stars.  Lastly, I added the jute ribbon.

That's it for me today.  I have more to share this weekend, so stop by again!

Time Out Challenge #10 - Home Sweet Home

Hey friends!  There's a new Time Out Challenge and this time around it's our Home Sweet Home challenge.  Here is the photo for your inspiration.

There are so many elements you can take from this photo.  I love those stripes on the wall and the aqua color.  I also liked the watercolor look of the flags and those feather dangling from the teepee.  That was my inspiration for this card.  I watercolored the feathers and spritzed it with some brown ink.  I also added some shimmer with a Wink of Stella shimmer brush.  And I think I added too many enamel dots!  I just love those things!

I'm playing along with this week's Sweet Sunday Sketch challenge too.

Just Us Girls #242 - Photo Inspiration Challenge

Hi friends!  There's a new Photo Inspiration challenge over on the Just Us Girls blog.  Vicki chose the photo this time and I just love it!

Here's a closer look at the photo.  So much inspiration!

This is what I came up with.  I of course could not ignore the black and white stripes.  I like how the stripes were offset, so I set out to recreate that.  I found this piece of paper with black and white diagonal stripes.  I cut a two inch strip then cut it in half and laid it down on another two inch strip of thin white cardstock.  I offset the stripes before adhering it to the cardstock.  Then I saw a card on the Case Study challenge blog that used PTI's button dies.  I had been wanting to use them, so I pulled them out and cut several from pink, green, blue, and yellow cardstock. (I took these colors from the flowers and two vases in the photo.)   I was worried that the colors might look too baby-ish, but I think the black made it more sophisticated.  I layered some buttons and put the bigger ones up on dimensionals.  I added some Wink of Stella shimmer on some of the buttons and then filled in the bare spots with enamel dots.  I kept the sentiment simple.

You can see the card I took my inspiration from here on the Case Study Challenge blog.

Stop by the JUGs DT blogs to see what amazing cards they created!

Just Us Girls #222 - Sketch Challenge

Hi everyone!  HAPPY NEW YEAR!  This is the first post of the new year for me.  It's a great sketch challenge from Just Us Girls brought to us by Nancy!

I wanted to use something in my collection of stamps/dies that I hadn't used yet.  I came across this stamp/die set from WPlus9 called Fanciful Feathers.  The feathers were cut from watercolor paper that I colored with Distress markers (pictures of the technique below).  I covered the feathers with a Wink of Stella glitter brush.  It sparkles so nicely in person!  I mounted them on squares of vellum that was run through an embossing folder.  I added some (a lot!) of sequins.  Maybe too many?  I never know when to stop!

Here are a couple of photos I took of how I colored the watercolor paper.  I used Distress markers to color rows of the four colors.

Then I used a water brush to blend and soften the colors.  I dried the paper with a heat gun before die cutting the feathers.  Love the look!

You can see more fabulous inspiration from the JUGs team at the blogs below.  We also have a new Guest Designer joining us this month, so please make a stop at her blog as well!

Happy Saturday everyone!  The challenge over at Just Us Girls is a color challenge this week, and Vicki has chosen a monochromatic blue color combo.  Great challenge!

I was a little concerned about what I was going to do, but then remembered  a technique I saw the fabulous Tim Holtz do in a video in this post (scroll down to the second video to see it).  I started by applying Weathered Wood distress paint using the dots from the Dylusions Dotted Flowers stencil.  Then I added the following distress inks on the entire tag:  tumbled glass, broken china, salty ocean, and faded jeans.  Next, I used the same stencil and faded jeans distress ink to stencil the flowers around the sides of the tag.  I then added the feathers (from Fanciful Feathers by WPlus9) stamped in faded jeans and the sentiment from Strictly Sentiments (also WPlus9).  Last, I sprayed Perfect Pearl mist on parts of the tag.  In hindsight, I wish I would have stamped the sentiment and feathers in black ink, but I was trying to keep true to the challenge.  I added some blue burlap ribbon, seam binding, twine and a charm to the tag to finish it off.

Just Us Girls #201 - Technique Challenge

Hi everyone!  Today over at Just Us Girls I'm the hostess!  Since it's technique week, I chose the shaker card technique.  I've never made one before and have always wanted to make a shaker card.

I've had these shaker pouches from Impression Obsession for a few years.  My LSS was demonstrating them once, so I purchased a pack.  Really easy to use!  I stared by stamping the flowers that are inside the shaker box.  They are from WPlus9's Fresh Cut Florals stamp set.  I stamped them in Hero Arts inks I recently purchased.  The leaves were stamped in Memento Luxe Pear Tart pigment ink.  Inside the shaker box are some microbeads I've had for a while.  The sentiment and flowers surrounding it are from Folk Art Florals, also from WPlus9.   The stitching above was stamped with PTI's Sew Simple Borders.  The paper is October Afternoon's Sidewalks.

I used this week's sketch from Freshly Made Sketches
Stop by these blogs and see the very different shaker cards the JUG design team created.

Just Us Girls #196 - Sketch Challenge

This week is sketch week over at Just Us Girls, and Nancy gave us this great sketch!

I recently purchased this new set from WPlus9 called Sweets and Treats.  It's got all these cute cupcakes in the set, so I colored up these three and added them and the sentiment in the circles.  I colored them to match the paper from October Afternoon called Cakewalk.  So many pretty designs to choose from in this paper pack!  I added some Star Dust Stickles to the cupcakes and then some baker's twine and a button to finish it off.

Stop by these blogs to see what the JUGs design team came up with.

Just Us Girls #193 - Color Challenge

Hi friends!  There's a great color challenge going on over at Just Us Girls this week!  Nancy is the hostess with the mostest this week and the colors she chose are
Aqua, Harvest Gold, Kraft, and White.

I needed a card for my father-in-law for Father's Day.  I really like this card I made for him.  It seems when I make a card with someone in mind, it seems to always come together extra special!  My FIL really won't see this card because he is 90% blind.  He has glaucoma and has had some botched surgeries.  I feel so sorry for him, but he never complains.  That's why I always want to make special cards for him.

I started by choosing the Super Star stamp set from WPlus9.  I embossed the starburst with white embossing powder onto kraft cardstock and then cut it out with a round nestie.  I backed it with another circle from So Saffron cardstock (I didn't have Harvest Gold).  The banner was hand cut from Aqua Mist cardstock and I ran it through a star embossing folder.  The striped background was stamped with Sahara Sand and So Saffron ink with a stamp from Background Basics:  Retro Papertrey Ink stamp set.  I used the Monarch Border die from My Favorite Things in So Saffron and added it to the striped paper.  The "Dad" stamp is from the Super Star set and was embossed in aqua ep from Zing and cut with a scalloped rectangular nestie.  The ribbon is SU's kraft taffeta and the little tag is a Martha Stewart punch.  The sentiment is from Super Star as well stamped in Sahara Sand.  The saffron and aqua stars are from the Western Star Border die from MFT.  They are the negative pieces.   This is a larger 5" x 5" card.

I used this sketch from Deconstructed Sketch as inspiration for the card.  It seems I haven't made a card with lots of layers in a while and it felt good to do a more intricate card!

Stop by these blogs to see some fabulous inspiration.

Just Us Girls #185 - Color Challenge

Happy Saturday everyone!  This week's challenge at Just Us Girls is a color challenge, and Marisa chose these lovely spring colors!

I'm late getting mine done, and I had no idea what I was going to do.  When I went to my craft table, these new stamps from WPlus9 were sitting there so I of course had to use them!  This set is called Paisley Prints and I just love paisley prints!  I made my background with them in the four challenge colors.  Then I added the pink piece on the bottom.  I first stamped it with the sentiment from Stylish Sentiments:  Birthday from Papertrey Ink, then used a SU punch for the decorative edge, and finally ran it through the Swiss Dots folder for some texture.  The flower is made from PTI felt and Beautiful Blooms II dies.  I added a button threaded with some baker's twine.  The flourish is from My Favorite Things and I cut it from certainly celery paper, then added some Star Dust Stickles for some sparkle.  It's so much prettier and colorful in person.  I just couldn't capture it in the picture.  Such a shame!

I used Fusion card challenge's sketch for my card this week.  Love this challenge!
