A Blue Snowflake

I actually made these cards for two challenges from yesterday. The Limited Supplies Challenge (LSC199) on SCS and the Taylored Expressions Sketch Challenge. You can see the sketch at the bottom of this post. The card on the left is actually the second version of the sketch I did and it is more true to it. The card below is the first one I did and it didn't really follow the sketch, but did follow LSC199 and I liked both of them, so I'm posting both!

They both use PTI's Vintage Cream as the base and this shimmery, textured blue paper that I got at my LSS, Buffalo Stamps & Stuff, a long time ago. The dp is Basic Grey's Two Scoops and the colors go together fabulously! The snowflake is from SU's Snow Swirled. The sentiment on the first one is from PTI's Holiday Tag Collection set and the other sentiment is from Rubbernecker. I used two different ribbons...the first is Certainly Celery grosgrain (SU) and the other is Spring Moss grosgrain (PTI). Since this was for a limited supply challenge, I didn't add anything other than the ribbon, but I may add some sparkle to the snowflake, like some crystals or crystal stickles. Thanks for stopping by and TFL!

Recipe

A Blue Christmas

I'm home today because of a bad snow storm here in Buffalo, NY. We have our first SNOW DAY!!! I was so happy to get the call at 5:50 a.m. that school was closed! I wasn't feeling well today and was glad to be home! So I'm stamping all day! Woohoo!!

I'm posting this card for a couple of challenges. First of all, today's Limited Supplies challenge on SCS (LSC199) was to do a card mostly in blue. (OK, I just realized that this was a Limited Supplies challenge and not a Ways to Use It challenge. I was supposed to use only one non-paper embellishment. I used two...the ribbon and glitter dots. I'm entering it anyway!) So I went in search of blue paper and found quite a few sheets of this shimmery textured blue paper I got at my LSS, Buffalo Stamps & Stuff, eons ago! It wasn't sturdy enough for a base, so I placed it on top of PTI's white (the only white I'll use as a base). Ialso found this pretty Offray ribbon in my stash that matched so nicely. Then I found out about the Festive Flourishes Friday challenge on Silke's blog (
My Life), and decided to play. It was similar to today's WTC to use blue, but also to use a Flourish stamp. I only have this one, Flourished Christmas, which I love, so I decided to go with the blue, white and silver theme. I stamped the tree and sentiment in Versamark and embossed it in silver (it may look like gold, but it's silver). I also used SU's brushed silver cardstock. The layout is from this week's Sketch challenge on SCS (SC207). I just turned it the other way to accommodate my image. I placed two white glitter dots in the bottom corner and the sentiment was punched with nestabilities. Very easy card to reproduce. I hope you are all snug and safe today if you are experiencing any inclement weather. Enjoy your weekend! I have another post below, so be sure to scroll down!

Always on My Mind

Today's Limited Supplies Challenge was to make an ATC card (mine is 3 1/2" x 2 1/2") that you could put into a loved one's lunch box to let them know you are thinking of them. When I first got married, I used to make my DH's lunch and put post-it notes in there thinking he'd see them when he ate lunch. I later found out that he ate his lunch ON THE WAY TO WORK, so he saw them right after he left me for work! So I stopped doing that (LOL)! Anyway, he worked a really long day yesterday (12 hours), and was so tired when he came home, but he managed to find time to sit and talk with me and also play with our Springer, Lizzie. She was so happy because she missed him all day (and drove me nuts in the process)! The two of them go everywhere together and are "kindred spirits". (Note to self: email GinaK and tell her to make a kindred spirits line of stamps with pets!) So when I saw this challenge today, I knew immediately that this card was coming from Lizzie!

I used this Whipper Snapper dog stamp and colored it with Prismacolor pencils to look sort of like Lizzie (she has a shorter tail and much longer legs). I stamped a heart from Sweet Love (PTI) and cut it out for her collar tag. I just got her a red heart tag the other day, so I had to add that on. I searched for the perfect sentiment, and came up with this one from SU's Always. It is so perfect for Lizzie! I added the twine bow and two dew drops to fill in the space. Her nose, the collar heart tag, and the heart on the sentiment all have crystal effects on them. Here is the inside which I think says it all!

I know exactly what my DH is going to say: "You're crazy and you need to go back to work!" Thanks for looking and see you soon!
Recipe
Stamps: Pup 'n Bone (Whipper Snapper), Always (SU), Simple Little Things and Ambassador Monogram (PTI), Stampendous (paw print)
Paper: Chocolate chip, real red, vanilla
Ink: Adirondack Espresso, real red
Accessories: Twine, dew drops, crystal effects, Prismacolor pencils, glue dots

Three Ring Circus

This card is for SCS Limited Supplies Challenge LSC155 Round and Round We Go. We were only allowed to use round stamps or punches. Even the ribbon had to be round, so I chose the ribbon as my starting point. It has blue and brown dots on it and that's where the color combo came from. I used Cool Caribbean (retired), Close to Cocoa, and Whisper White. On the Cool Caribbean piece, I stamped On the Spot (retired) in cocoa. The flowers are from Big Flowers and I chose this flower because of the dots around it and because it was the most colorful when stamped. It matches the circles in On the Spot. I stamped the flowers in both the blue and cocoa. I think I may have strayed a bit from the challenge, because I used the Three For You punch for the middle of the flower. Oh well, it just looked better. The HPH brads are in the center of each flower. The flowers were punched with the 1 3/8" SU punch and were backed with Creative Memories
1 1/2" punch. They were placed on the card with dimensionals. The ribbon is tied in a knot to also represent a circle.

I staged my card a bit. I've seen others do this and it just makes the card a bit more interesting. Let me know what you think! ~TFL~
