Just Us Girls #472 - Photo Week

Hey friends!  It's Photo Week over at Just Us Girls, and Nancy chose these nautical themed pictures.  Fun!

I have this Spellbinders anchor die that I just love.  My dad was in the navy during WWII, so anchors have always appealed to me.  I die cut the anchor from pattern paper (I have tons of pattern paper and haven't used it in so long!) that was first adhered to a lightweight cardstock to give it more stability.  Then, using a nautical stamp set from WPlus9, I stamped that vertical piece in navy and green anchors.  Lastly, I stamped the sentiment in navy (the "happy" was stamped twice in my MISTI and the paper must have shifted a bit...I wasn't going to start over!).  No sequins or shimmer on this one.  I plan to keep it for when I need a card for a male's birthday.

I used  Freshly Made Sketches for my layout.

This is the last week for our January guests, Cindy and Janet, and I'd like to thank them for their beautiful cards this month!

Thanks for stopping by!

Freshly Made Sketches #244

Hi everyone!  I'm back again with a card for two challenges today.  I love this stamp set and haven't had the opportunity to use it yet.  I decided to make a shaker too.  These flowers were colored the other day with copics, and today I decided to die cut them for this card.  I placed some SU designer paper behind the shaker...I love that pop of green.  I also love that little bee just buzzing around!  The grass was stamped and die cut four times and layered at the bottom of the flowers. I added the sentiment and sequins to finish it off.  And of course there is shimmer on all of the die cuts!

I used the Freshly Made Sketches for my layout.

I'm also entering this into the 30 Day Coloring Challenge.  This is my second entry so far.  Let's see how many I can enter!

Just Us Girls #348 - Color Week

It's Color Week over at Just Us Girls and Ina has chosen a fun color combo!

I just got this flower set from MFT  this week and thought it would look good in these colors.  I colored them with copics...I tried watercoloring with Zig markers, but it just wasn't working today.  I was going to leave the top part of the card plain, but I just couldn't!  That ever happen to you?  I ran it through an embossing folder for some texture.  Lots of sequins on this one too!

I used this week's sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.  I realized my sentiment is in the wrong place!
I'm also entering this into the MFT Camp Create-Delightful Die Cutting Challenge.

Just Us Girls #345 - Photo Week

Hi everyone!  I'm the hostess at Just Us Girls this week for our Photo Week challenge.  I chose this pretty, sunny photo of a craft room.

Here's a close-up of the photo so you can see more details.

What caught my attention was the yellow wallpaper and those pretty posies!  I started by stamping the background with yellow ink and an old Stampin' Up background stamp.  I then die cut a window in the center so I could create a shaker card.  After I created the shaker, I realized I should have added more sequins and glued some down so they didn't all fall to the bottom!  The flowers were stamped and layered onto the card with dimensionals, and the sentiment was stamped onto a banner.  I added more sequins and Wink of Stella on the flowers.  I'm giving this to my mom because she fell (again!) and broke her shoulder.  She's currently in a rehab facility because she can't use her walker and needs more care.  Hopefully she'll be back at her assisted living facility soon, and I'm also hoping this cheers her up.  She loves the color yellow, too!

I used this week's sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.

Just Us Girls #338 - Trend Week

Hi everyone!  Have you tried the "smooshing" technique yet?  It's quite popular and very easy to do.  That's the challenge for Trend Week over at Just Us Girls

To get this effect, I smooshed three distress inks on my craft mat, spritzed it with water, and laid my watercolor paper in it.  I dried it with my heat tool and was done.  You just have to be certain not to place colors next to each other that will mix into a muddy color.  To finish off my panel, I added a die cut that I stamped and colored with copic markers.  I added star dust stickles to the flower centers and a little bit on the bottom of the jar.

The cool layout is from this week's Freshly Made Sketches.  I just had to use this sketch when I saw it!

Just Us Girls #335 - Color Week

Hi all!  It's color week over at Just Us Girls, and Chris has some pretty spring colors for us to use!

I've been loving creating CAS cards lately.  I just love this one!  I took a floral stencil and used the three challenge colors with it.  I stamped the sentiment and added sequins then mounted that on a light pink mat.  I rounded one corner for some interest.  I'm going to stamp an Easter sentiment on the inside and send it off to a family member.

I used this week's Freshly Made Sketches for my layout.

Just Us Girls #320 - Color Week

Hi friends!  Just Us Girls has a color challenge going on this week, and Sharyn chose red, green, and gold for us.  Great for making those holiday cards!

I cut this die out of white cardstock and colored it with copic markers.  The star on top was embossed with gold embossing powder then adhered it to the cream cardstock.  I added some gold glitter paper and wooden stars also embossed with gold embossing powder to match the star on the die.  The main panel is popped up on fun foam for some dimension.  Strips of gold glitter paper was added as well.

I used this week's sketch from Freshly Made Sketches for my layout.

Just Us Girls #318 - Word Week

Boy am I glad the weekend is here.  It wasn't a bad week, it's just that I love my weekends!  I hate waking up to an alarm!  Anyway, there's a new challenge over at Just Us Girls.  This week is our word week, and Sue chose the word "stripes".

Unfortunately, I needed a sympathy card.  Fortunately, I had this great Prayers die and stamp set.  First, I had to create some stripes for the challenge.  I don't know if you can see them, but I used a stripes stencil and some white texture paste to create them on the main panel.  While that was drying, I created some gold paper by covering some white paper with Versamark and gold embossing powder.  The prayers word was die cut from that as well as the little heart.  I die cut and stamped the flower and leaves.  I added the pattern paper circle and banner.  That main panel was backed with a piece of coral paper.

I'm playing in a couple of other challenges.  I used the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.
And I used the color palette from Color Throwdown.

And then I thought I'd enter this into Jennifer McGuire's Share Handmade Kindness Challenge.  This card is going to my cousin who lost her husband recently.

Just Us Girls #305 - Color Week

Hi everyone!  It's Saturday, so that means another challenge from Just Us Girls.  This week is our color week, and Ina has chosen a color combothat I just love...red, gray, and black!
I didn't think I was going to get a card done for this challenge.  I'm having an estate sale today and yesterday at my mom's house.  She recently moved into an assisted living facility and I've been at her house all week sorting, discarding, and pricing items for sale.  Yesterday was really busy and went well, but I'm exhausted!  I didn't think I'd have any energy to make a card, but I seriously couldn't get these colors out of my head.  And I needed a thank you card to send to my best friend, Maria, for helping me all day yesterday.  So here's my attempt at these colors.
I wanted to do a very simple card.  Of course this is simple, but s*#% happens, as they say.  Twice I smudged ink on the panel and had to start over!  I just can't seem to make a card without some boo-boo!  Anyway, I added the black washi tape to the bottom of the panel then stenciled the red hearts.  The sentiment die was cut twice:  once from red cardstock and again from fun foam to give the card some dimension.  I mounted that panel onto gray cardstock and then added some sequins.  The sentiment die was covered with Wink of Stella shimmer.  Easy peasy!

I used this week's sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.

Color Throwdown and Freshly Made Sketches

Hi everyone!  I fell in love with the colors from this week's Color Throwdown and had to play.  Aren't they just so fresh and summery?

I purchased the new Bloomers set from PTI this release because I just love flower images and this one looked so fun and easy to create some gorgeous flowers.  I had a difficult time stamping that aqua flower because the stamp is so solid and the ink just pools on the stamp, leaving a blotchy impression.  I tried wiping it several times with a baby wipe, using an eraser on it, stamping it over and over, and it still came out splotchy.  But in the end, I do like how this came out.  I did add some green for the leaves...it's hard to do leaves in any color but green (for me!).  I used Tim Holtz's spritzer tool to get some ink splatters on the card.  Love that thing!  I used some texture paste and a stencil to get the stripes on the bottom of the panel then added some baker's twine to finish it off.  The main panel was raised using some fun foam.  Easy card, but took forever to create because of stamping those dang flowers!

For the layout, I used this week's sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.

Just a reminder:  This Saturday is the 300th challenge over at Just Us Girls and we are having a celebration!  Prizes and all!  Make sure you tune in for the celebration!

Freshly Made Sketches #164

I'm popping in today quickly cause I'm off to lunch with some of my best girl friends.  I've had this stamp on my table for a week or so and I just had to color it up!  I bought it at a stamp show two summers ago.  It's such a beautiful image!  I colored it with copic markers following the picture on the package.  I took the Online Classes Copic Coloring for Card Makers and they provided a list of their favorite color combos.  That has really helped me with my coloring!  I added Wink of Stella shimmer to the halos (hard to see) and the gold panel was embossed because I didn't have any gold paper left!  The sentiment was also gold embossed.  I think this image is going to be colored and used for family cards this Christmas!

I followed the current Freshly Made Sketches for my layout.  Many ways to use this great sketch!

I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving with family and friends!  Thanks for stopping by!

Just Us Girls #268 - Photo Week

Hi friends!  My friend Cheryl is hostess at Just Us Girls and she chose a fabulous picture for our photo week challenge!  I just love this photo.

Here's a close up so you can see more details.
Christmas entryway with copper boiler tree stand, vintage sled, and framed vintage Christmas sheet music.

I of course had to pull out my sled stamp and die from PTI for this card!  Then I went looking for a tree (I found out there are many in my stash) and came across this tree that I just adore from PTI as well.  When I looked closely at the photo, I saw that the tree was planted in a copper container.  So I embossed the container with copper embossing powder.  I had space for a sentiment, so I pulled out a word die, cut it out of red cardstock, and added glossy accents on it.  I debated on which way to adhere the word and settled on this way.  The tree and the bough on the sled were covered in star dust stickles.  This card really sparkles...something I love!

I used the Freshly Made Sketches for my layout, but it seems I forgot a layer.  I hope I am forgiven!
