Just Us Girls #119 - Technique Challenge

Hi all!  Did you all survive Friday the 13th?  Up here in Buffalo, NY, we got hit with our first storm of the season.  Yes, I said FIRST snow storm!  We have not had any snow on the ground until yesterday. And it took me almost and hour and a half to get to work!  There was a 10 car pile up on the Thruway which held things up for hours!  It wasn't an enjoyable ride!

But today is better, it's Saturday and the long weekend is ahead, and we have a cool Just Us Girls technique challenge for you!  Our newest JUGs member, and Moxie Fabber of the Week, Lynn Mangan, chose the collage technique.  I had such fun with this one!  You can find the instructions in the SCS Resources here.

I started with a stamp set I purchased at a stamp show from Darcie's booth (there's no name on the package and I couldn't find it online).  I started with a piece of white cardstock and stamped it with SU's retired canvas background in Basic Gray.  Then I stamped the other images in Basic Gray, Tempting turquoise, and the sentiment in Versafine Onyx Black.  The flourishes were stamped off before stamping on the cardstock.  The edges were distressed and then I added more Basic Gray ink to define the edges more.  The ribbon is Basic Gray taffeta.  I had to add something else, so I just added some silver pearls to each side.
You have to stop by the JUGs blog and the girls' blogs to see their amazing collage stamped cards.  They are listed below.

Just Us Girls Technique Challenge

Happy Saturday everyone! Are you stressing yet? Surprisingly I'm not...even though I have TONS to do! We are supposed to cut down our tree tomorrow and I'll put it up on Sunday, but the weather has been pretty wintery in the southern part of Western NY, so we may go on Sunday to get it.

But today, the Just Us Girls team has a fabulous challenge that I had never tried before. Kristin chose the chalkboard technique. You can find it here on the SCS Resources section. It's sooo easy to do (once you decide on a stamp to use, which is always my dilemma!). Here's my first try at it.The set I used is called Flourish Snowman from Darcie's. I picked it up at a stamp show over the summer. I inked this tree in a pigment white ink on black cardstock and then used SU chalks in Green Galore and Garden Green for the evergreens and Close to Cocoa for the trunk of the tree. The two greens gave it more dimension. I used SU's retired Holiday Treasures dp (love that dp!) and some sheer swiss dot black ribbon. There are two metal dots in the bottom corner. NO SPARKLE on this card! I tried, believe me! LOL! (I'm looking at this card as I type, and see that the green dp is much richer in color than in the picture. It looks very washed out here, but it's more olive in color. Hmmm....)

I hope you stop by the JUGs blog and see what the other girls have done and then play along! This is really a cool technique! Here is a list of the girls' personal blogs...they'd love to see some comments from you, too!

Thanks for stopping in today, and enjoy your weekend!

Zebra Monogram

I was checking out the Inspiration Challenge on SCS today, and Stephanie gave us the Pottery Barn Teen website to use as our inspiration. As I was looking through it, I saw these monogramed pillows with a zebra print border. I thought of this Zebra stamp set I have by Darcie's and went from there. I used PTI Vintage Cream as my base then a layer of black. The dp is from DCWV's All Dressed Up stack. I had just purchased more of this because I love these papers. I stamped the zebra border on cream in Versafine black, and then cut and embossed it and the black layer beneath it with rectangular nestabilities. The letter is from PTI's Ambassador Monogram set. Super easy! It only took minutes to make. I always decorate the inside of my cards and I thought of leaving it blank for a note card (I SHOULD have done that). But I embossed a frame with the rectangular nestie, then used my stamp-a-ma-jig to position the zebra frame within it. Well wouldn't you know, the SAMJ slipped and my frame is crooked! UGHHH! I went with it anyway. The "thanks" is something I got free with my recent Verve order. I thought I uploaded that picture, but I didn't. It's still in my camera (really!). Well, thanks for stopping by!

Joy

Hi everyone! I hope you are not stressing too much this holiday season. I was shopping all last weekend and got a lot done...even some cards! I'm scheduling these cards to post one each day so I have some for you to look at every day instead of posting them all at once! I figured out how to do that recently, so pat me on the back! LOL! When I was going through my Christmas stamps, I came across this set from Darcie's Stamps that I purchased at a stamp show in Buffalo this summer. You can see the post here of all the stuff I bought! I went with Cheryl Rowley and I think we burned a hole in our credit cards! I realized that I had colored an image from this set and was totally happy! You know how happy you feel when all you have to do is find a layout for your card and just put it together? It's a great feeling! The card went together in a snap! I used Amy Rysavy's layout Amyrs45. (I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link anyone's blog anymore because there is something going on about hijacking blogs...I'm confused about it so I won't link anything unless I know the other person/company is ok with it. I know Cheryl won't mind, right Cheryl?) I used DCWV Christmas Stack again because it was out on my table and PTI's white as my base. This is the only white I've found so far that is heavy enough to use as a base. SU's whisper white is too flimsy. Anyway, I also used green galore and pixie pink for layers and, yes, orange for my snowflakes! Have you ever seen orange snowflakes? Me neither, but I had to bring in the orange somewhere and the snowflakes were it! The image is colored with Prismacolor pencils and gamasol and crystal stickles were added for some shimmer. I also added stickles to the snowflakes and placed some bling in the middle of each one. The sentiment is from SU's The Snowflake Spot (retired). The sentiment on the inside is from the Darcie's set. Hope you like it. Stop by again tomorrow...I have another to show you! Thanks for stopping by and Happy Holidays!

Zebra Wishes

This is one of the stamp sets I got at the StampScrapArtTour today (see my previous post below). It's by a company called Darcie's. It's really a cute set with several cling vinyl stamps already die cut. I fell in love with this "peaking zebra". I must say, however, that it took me A LONG TIME to do this zebra! I first tried copic markers (my favorite coloring medium lately), but I wasn't getting good results with blending and shading. I realized that my blender pen is dry! I need new refill it! So then I went to the prismacolor pencils and the blender pencil. That was a mess! All the shavings were going everywhere and it just didn't look good at all. That went into the trash. Then I used the prismacolor pencils again, but this time I used gamasol and a blending stump....much better results! This is really the first time I'm using gamasol and the blender stumps. It blends the colors so nicely! I do have to practice though. I had a difficult time blending the cheeks in properly. I guess it's ok for a first try. I accented the zebra with the clear Spica glitter pen. I used the distressed stripes cb folder on the black, but it wouldn't photograph well. The pink base of this card is 8 3/4" long and scored at 5 1/2". This is what the inside looks like. The zebra frame, happy birthday sentiment, and the three hearts are all single stamps in the set. The other sentiment is from SU's new Heard from the Heart. (I realized that I took this picture before I added the prima flowers to the card! Whoops!) I'm giving this card to a three-year old for her birthday tomorrow. Thanks for stopping by!
