Just Us Girls #569 - Wild Card Week

Hello there!  It's the 5th Saturday of the month which means the challenge at Just Us Girls is a Wild Card challenge.  I'm the hostess and got to choose anything I wanted for the challenge.  I chose MASKING.

I pulled out a never been used stamp set from Altenew because masking flowers is a great choice for masking.  I started by stamping the pink flower, created a mask for it then stamped the yellow flower.  I created a mask for that as well and stamped the leaves.  I had to create masks for the leaves as well so I could stamp the background image.  I added a piece of pattern paper to the bottom then die cut it with a stitched rectangle.  I die cut the sentiment and added that along with some crystals and star dust stickles in the flower centers.  This was added to a yellow panel die cut with a stitched rectangle as well.

You can see more from the JUGs design team and our January guests on the JUGs blog.
It is the last week for these talented ladies who have joined us all month.  Thanks to them for their great cards this month!

Thanks for stopping by!

Just Us Girls #559 - Photo Week

Hi friends!  Nancy chose a really great picture for our Just Us Girls Photo Week challenge.  I just love the colors and design!

I pulled out some Altenew products to create this card.  I started by die cutting the vase from some ivory cardstock then used frayed burlap distress ink and a blending brush to get the texture look similar to the vase in the photo.  Then I stamped the pink flowers and made a mask for it.  I put the mask over the flowers and stamped the fern in spruce ink.  This was a second generation stamping because I wanted the color to be lighter.  I adhered the vase to the panel that was die cut with a stitched rectangle die.  The mat panel behind it was created the same way as the vase and also die cut with a stitched rectangle die.  I added clear sequins to finish it off.  The sentiment was die cut three times and stacked.

Just Us Girls #533 - Trend Week

Hello friends!  The new challenge at Just Us Girls is a good one.  Nancy chose for us to cut our cards into thirds for this Trend Challenge.

I was organizing all my stamps the other day and came across this one I've never used.  I thought it would be cool to just emboss it in gold onto a blended background.  I started with that background.  I recently saw Kristina Werner creating blended backgrounds with the new Crackling Campfire oxide ink with various other inks.  I chose to use it with Dusty Concord and Aged Mahogany that she suggested.  I love how it came out!  After blending them together, I heat set it so I could stamp it with Versamark and heat emboss it with antique gold embossing powder.  I did the same with the sentiment.  (There's a defect I noticed on the leaves in the top portion of the image.)  After that, I die cut it first with a stitched rectangle then I cut it into thirds.  I took off about a 1/4" from each piece so there would be a space in between each piece.  I mounted the three pieces onto a black panel with craft foam for some dimension.  Gold sequins were added for some sparkle.

Time Out #168 - Photo Inspiration

Hello friends!  It's time for a new Time Out challenge.  This challenge is our Photo Inspiration challenge.  Look at this very cute terrarium!  So much inspiration!

I know I have a hibiscus flower image or die somewhere, but my organization system is a little askew right now and I couldn't find it.  So I chose this flower by Altenew (they have the best floral images) and went with the colors of pink, blue, and green from the photo.  I masked the image  to stamp the leaves.  I'm in need of birthday cards, so I chose this sentiment from MFT.  I added pink and blue crystals and a bit of shimmer on the center of the flower.  Simple and easy card to create

Just Us Girls #536 - Color Week

Hello friends!  This week over at Just Us Girls, I'm the hostess for our Color Week.  I chose some fun, bright and cheery colors.

I received this lovely gift from Altenew the other day.  I was pleasantly surprised and decided it would be a great image to use for this week's challenge.

I first stamped the image and colored it with copic markers.  Then I used an oval masking stencil over the image and blended some spun sugar ink over the panel, heavier around the image and lighter towards the edges.  Then I die cut it with a scalloped edge die.  I added the sentiment (it's crooked, ugh!) and some sequins.  That panel was popped up with craft foam and added to the base.

Just Us Girls #523 - Color Week

Hello!  We have a fabulous color challenge this week over at Just Us Girls brought to us by Ina!  I'm in love with this color combo!

So classy, don't you think?  I just bought these two new stamp and die sets from Altenew and thought they would be perfect for this challenge.  I started by pulling out some gold shine card stock and found this gold piece already die cut so I used it for the first mat.  The vase was die cut from black card stock and the flowers from vintage cream card stock.  I layered all of them on the gold card stock.  That was layered on a black piece, and I finished it with a sentiment from the stamp set and some shimmery gold crystals.

Time Out #149 - Theme Challenge

Hi friends!  It's Theme Challenge time at the Time Out blog.  Our theme is celebrations.

Proud to be Sponsored by
We are sponsored by Altenew for this challenge, and I have TONS of Altenew product (who doesn't?) so I chose to use this cute smaller set called Sophisticated Wreath.  I've said this before, but I love that they include samples in their packaging.  I used one of the samples as a guide to make this card.  The wreath is made with one branch repeatedly stamped to make the wreath.  I did it twice with two different colors of green...one light and one darker.  Then I stamped and die cut the flowers and arranged them on the wreath. The flower centers have stickles on them for sparkle.   I chose this sentiment because I thought it fit with the celebrations theme.  I finished it with some clear sequins with some stickles in the middle of them for more sparkle.  I mounted the main panel on an olive base for it to stand out on the white base.

Color Throwdown #562

Hey friends!  I thought I'd play with the Color Throwdown colors this week.  They are cobalt blue, aqua, gray and black.  I looked through my stash of unused stamp sets and chose this graphic one from Altenew.  I love that they give you ideas with their stamp sets because I have a difficult time with images like these!  I followed one of their examples and just changed up the colors to match the challenge colors.  I love that sentiment as well.  This is going to a friend to celebrate an accomplishment.

Here is the Color Throwdown graphic and link to the challenge.

Just Us Girls #506 - Color Week

Hi there!  I'm hostess this week at Just Us Girls for our Color Week.  The colors I've chosen are white, mint green, and shades of gray.

Let me first say that I'm not happy with my photo.  The color is so washed out!  In person, the green is much more vibrant.  All that aside, I stamped the outline of the flower then added the green shading and a darker gray in the center.  The flower was masked in order to stamp the light gray leaves behind it.  I added the sentiment and crystals and shimmer to the center of the flower.  This main panel was mounted on a gray base with craft foam.  I really love this color combo.

Just Us Girls #497 - Color Week

Hi friends!  Nancy chose a very feminine and pretty color combination for this week's Just Us Girls color week challenge.

This was an easy challenge for me.  These colors scream flowers!  And what better stamp company to choose for that than Altenew?  This Pomander stamp set is just so pretty.  I stamped the flowers in light and dark pink Altenew inks then the leaves in green ink from MFT.  The outline of the image was first stamped in Memento tuxedo black ink.  I stamped the sentiment then die cut the main panel and the black panel with stitched rectangle dies.  I added star dust stickles to the flowers and random crystals to the background.  I thought it would make a nice sympathy card (something I like to have on hand).

Just Us Girls #495 - Word Week

Hey friends!  It's Word Week over at Just Us Girls and Angie chose SMILE!

I got all mixed up with days of the week with the July 4th holiday being during the middle of the week, and at around 10:00 Friday evening I realized I didn't make a card for this challenge!  Thank goodness for inspiration from Altenew's packaging with their stamp sets!  I pretty much cased one of their examples on the packaging, changing up the colors.  This is one of their newer sets called Sunflower Daisy.  I just changed up the colors to match the Color Throwdown colors.  The flower actually looks like a gerbera daisy so I thought it was safe!  I stamped the flower in three shades of Catherine Pooler red inks and added black for the last layer.  The leaves were stamped in four different Altenew greens.  I stamped the sentiment and then die cut the main panel and black panel with stitched rectangle dies.  I mounted it on craft foam and added sequins and some shimmer to the center of the flower.  I love red, black and green on a card!  So striking!

Here is the link to the Color Throwdown challenge I'm entering.

Just Us Girls #488 - Color Week

Hi all!  There's a new challenge over at Just Us Girls and it's a color challenge.  Maria wants us to use the colors in this beautiful photo below.

I made this card for my mother-in-law for Mother's Day.  I loved the colors of the tulips in the photo and used that as inspiration as well.  This is a layering stamp set from Altenew.  The tulip was stamped in yellow, red, and purple, and the leaves were stamped in two shades of green.  I stamped the sentiment in the same purple.  I added crystals in the same colors as the tulip and mounted the panel on dark purple cardstock.

Time Out #132 - Home Sweet Home Challenge

Hey everyone!  It's time for a new Time Out challenge.  This time, it's our Home Sweet Home challenge.  We have this photo to inspire us.  We are sponsored by Altenew (one of my favorite stamp companies for flowers!).

My eyes went to the striped pillow, pink flowers, and all the gold accents.  The stripes reminded me of a gift card at Hobby Lobby I saw a while back (see a picture of it below).  I knew I had the Gradient Stripes set and lots of different floral sets.  I went with the Watercolor Wonder set.  I stamped the flowers in pink and yellow and some leaves and arranged them on the top part of the cardstock.  The stripes were stamped about three times in Versafine onyx black to get a true dark black.  I had to wait a while to emboss the sentiment.  The stripes took long to dry and I used a heat tool as well to speed things up.  Even with that, there was still some powder sticking to the black ink when I embossed the sentiment.  I added this panel to a shiny gold mat and added some gold sequins.

Here is the other inspiration I used to make this card.

Just Us Girls #479 - Color Week

Hi friends!  I'm really late getting my post up for this week's Just Us Girls Color Week challenge!  Time just got away from me!  Nancy chose this really pretty color combo and I just couldn't pass it up!

In hindsight, I was sort of glad I was late.  I just got these new Altenew stamps in the mail this afternoon, and they were perfect for this color challenge.  This is a layering stamp set.  The yellow flowers have two stamps as do the purple flowers, and the leaves are just one stamp.  It took a bit to figure out the layering.  The first time I stamped them, I was a bit off.  So I tried again with better results.  After stamping, I die cut the bouquet with the coordinating die.  I actually die cut it two more times to make it more dimensional.  I took another Altenew stamp set that had a flower stem and stamped it in the vase.  I added some shimmer to the vase and scattered some crystals on the panel.  The sentiment was perfect for my friend who is going through a difficult time.

This is my little card making helper, Martha.  She's 6 months old now and such a good puppy (except she likes to steal any supplies within reach)!

Color Throwdown #528

Hi friends!  I saw the colors in this week's Color Throwdown challenge and loved them!  I just got the Stained Glass stamp set from Altenew and thought the colors would work well with them.

It took me quite a while to figure out which inks to use for this image.  I needed a set for the base layers and another set for the stain glass layers.  If you look at the stamp set, you'll understand what I mean.  After stamping the image, I die cut it with the matching die.  Then I embossed the white panel with a woodgrain impression plate.  I edged the left side of the card with a piece of aqua glitter paper.  I used the same paper for the sentiment.

Here are the colors from the Color Throwdown challenge.
