Just Add Ink #742 Inspiration

Hi there,
time for a new challenge at Just Add Ink. This week Nikki has an inspiration challenge for us. It's very lush and green! Here's the inspiration pic. Use the colours, pattern or objects you see in the inspiration picture as the main feature of your project.

All that leafy foliage really caught my attention. I had the perfect background stamp for that which had yet to see ink. Here's how it turned out.

To start I stamped the leafy background in Shaded Spruce on some Soft Sea Foam card stock. Then blended over Shaded Spruce, Shy Shamrock and Soft Sea Foam in an ombre gradient. Once that was dry I flicked over white gouache paint. For the sentiment I used Versamark to stamp on Shaded Spruce card stock and then white embossed. Once die cut I mounted the sentiment on two die cut layers. A bow of mixed twine finished it all off.

The Just Add Ink DT have lots of lovely projects to show you so please go check them and then come back and join in the challenge.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

Just Add Ink #691 Inspiration

Hello,
this week at Just Add Ink Kerry is asking us to Just Add Inspiration. The inspiration picture is filled with colours, objects, and textures that you can use as the main feature of your projects. Here it is.

The deep blue tones throughout the inspiration picture caught my eye as did the sparkly rich gold of the stars seen in one of the images at the top. Putting that together with a swirly star die from my stash this is how it turned out.

I watercoloured the background first, then once dry, splattered with gold ink. Dried once again. Then die cut the swirling star pattern out. Putting some of the stars aside for the inside. I then cut the swirling stars from gold glimmer paper, and paper pieced the gold stars into the watercolored panel. Although I did leave a scatter of small stars white as it added an extra little pop of brightness. Some gold cord and a gold embossed sentiment finished it all off.

The Just Add Ink DT have lots of gorgeous projects to show you so please go check them and then come back and join in the challenge.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

Just Add Ink #676 Inspiration

Hello there,
time for a new challenge at Just Add Ink. This week it is an inspiration challenge from me! Here's the inspiration picture. Use the objects, colours or patterns in the picture to inspire, and feature, in your project.

This is what I came up with.

First I dug through my stash to find B&W DSP that matched the inspiration photo, then woodgrain embossed my base mat (which is unfortunately not very visible in the photos). Next I pulled out a stack of different ink colours and set about playing with the SU! Abundant Beauty decorative masks -  they are super easy to use! An evening fussy cutting while watching a movie saw me with a pile of flowers and leaves to layer together to create that bright orange floral pop of colour. A scatter of tiny gold sequins finished it all off.

The Just Add Ink design team have plenty of lovely projects for you so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

Just Add Ink #666 Inspiration

Hello there,
it's time for the new challenge from Just Add Ink and this week Jan has an inspiration challenge for us. It definitely has a winter vibe but you don't have to go with that theme. Just use the colours, objects or patterns from the inspiration picture below and feature them in your project.

I, however, did go with a wintery vibe. I took several elements from the inspiration picture - colours, the snowy tree background, lots of white to contrast with bright colours.

This project was all about die cutting - lots and lots of trees - and ink blending to add pops of colour. I added texture in a couple of ways. First by dry embossing all the trees with a subtle texture and then by adding splatters to the ink blended elements.

The Just Add Ink design team have plenty of fabulous projects for you so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

Just Add Ink #656 Inspiration

Hello there,
time for a new challenge at Just Add Ink. This week's Just Add Inspiration challenge come from me. I hope you like it! Use the colours, objects, patterns etc in the inspiration picture to feature as the main element of your project.

I needed a masculine teen birthday card. This is how it turned out.

This is really all about adapting a die. The Groves die is horizontal but I wanted a vertical scene. To achieve that I was careful to not cut with the bottom edge of the die - known as partial die cutting. Having left a long panel of card stock under the die cut area I got out a sharp blade cut a slope and extended my LHS tree trunk to achieve a hillside effect. Embossing a subtle texture over the die cut extended panel, added some texture and also served to hide any impressed plate edges from the die cutting process. The messy edges of the die cut panel were hidden by creating a stitched frame for the card front.

All that was left then was to blend a sunrise scene, and black embossed a bike rider (a very old SU! stamp in my stash). It was a definite hit with the teen!

The Just Add Ink DT have lots of fabulous projects to inspire you so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Just Add Ink #646 Inspiration

Hello there,
the presence of an abundance of chocolate Easter goodies in supermarkets probably means you are aware that Easter is fast approaching. With that in mind for Just Add Ink's inspiration challenge this week I suggested something with Easter overtones. Here's the inspiration picture - use the colours, patterns, or objects you see to inspire the main element of your project.

And this is where I went with it.

The main elements from the inspiration picture that I used in my project were the crumb cake colour and featuring a bunny. Luckily ;) I just happened to have an adorable bunny image that I could use.

I started by stamping my image, then masked the bunny and balloon off so I could blend a gentle blue sky. Next I coloured my bunny and balloon, but to make it a little extra I fussy cut them out and popped them up on dimensionals over the original stamped images.

A stitched frame, a little twine and a small scatter of sequins finished it off.

The Just Add Ink DT have lots of lovely projects to show you so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Kim

Just Add Ink #635 Inspiration

Hello there,
December never fails to go past at lightening speed and so I find myself at my last post for the year, and as you can expect it's a Christmas project. I used this week's Just Add Ink's Inspiration challenge, from Nikki, to guide this year's gift card holders for family. Here's the inspiration picture.

And here's how they turned out.

I started by pulling out every shade of green, purple, and red-purple and mixing and matching till I was happy with each separate combo. Step two was a whole lot of die cutting, and little dry embossing. Then to add a fun whimsical Christmas touch I coloured some little Christmas characters.

The Just Add Ink DT have lots of fabulous projects to show you so please go check them out and then show us yours.

With Christmas imminent we are running this challenge for two weeks until 4 January 2023.

This will be my last post for this year. I'll be back Jan 20, 2023 when the Just Add Ink team will kick off the new year with our annual blog hop.

Till then thanks for visiting, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Just Add Ink #625 Inspiration

Hello there,
the season definitely inspired my choice of inspiration picture for this week's new challenge at Just Add Ink. I couldn't go past this field of vibrant spring flowers especially as the garden is filled with spring blooms right now. Looking at the inspiration picture below, draw on the colours, patterns, or objects in the picture and use it as the main element of your project.

I count't resist creating my own field of flowers, this is how it turned out.

I started by pulling out a whole bunch of ink pads based on the colours I could see in the inspiration photo and then started stamping flowers and foliage. Once I thought I had enough I started die cutting them out and then working out the placement on the card front. Having the flowers flow down the card on a diagonal adds a strong structural element and balancing that with (subtly textured) white space means they have plenty of impact. The card was finished off simply with a sentiment and a tiny scatter of sparkly sequins.

The Just Add Ink DT have lots of fabulous projects to how you so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Thanks for visiting,

Kim

Just Add Ink #615 Inspiration

Hello there,
things are frosty and cold here, so it was a good time to stay inside and craft using this week's new challenge at Just Add Ink. Just Add Inspiration from Nikki, here's the inspiration pic.

This is how my project turned out.

The different geometric elements of the inspiration picture really grabbed my attention, so I reflected that and the colour palette in my card. The pop of green was I think a super important element to add. While my sun rays look fully silver embossed, they were actually stamped in grey ink first and then over stamped with versa mark. I wanted the embossing to be a bit broken and scratched up, which you can't see here in the pic but you can in real life. Not quite sure if this will be a masculine birthday card or a sympathy card - I think it could work for either purpose.

The rest of the Just Add Ink DT have fabulous projects to share with you too, so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim
