Driftwood Angel

I just love her! The pictures really do not do this piece justice. I may do a little more embellishment, but not much. I have been just fascinated with embroidery of late, but knowing I wanted to take this old craft and give it a little modern twist. What really made it pop for me was taking a pencil and shading the face after doing a very simple back stitch. It gives a very organic feel to the face which goes so will with the natural materials. I am sure this is just the beginning of much more exploration. I am going to have to start taking my daily walks just to find more driftwood.

Embroidery

I just thought I would post a few picks of the things I have been working on this week. I begin each face with just drawing right on the muslin and then with three strands of floss and some very simple stitches begin coloring with the floss. I have yet to make the pattern for the body, but that is how I work with all the dolls. First comes the face and then I worry about the body later.

Crochet and Embroidery

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! We finished up on the leftovers yesterday. I need to really get out of my zone and go shopping. I really am a hermit. I made this sweet little cuff a few days ago. It will be going in the store. It's been a long time since I have done any embroidery work and I must say it was fun. For those of you following the reconstruction, I had a little set back and need to do some seam ripping. I cut up the arms of the sleeves with the intent of inserting another part of a sleeve from another shirt. It was a flop, so I will be working on that today to fix it. I have also started a new blog called My Spirit Cloth Journal
