WIP - The Dude's Blanket

I think we can officially pronounce me the Queen of frogging as I am most certainly a "re-doer" of my crocheted/knitted items. For some strange reason I fall out of love with some of them pretty soon after completion and cannot resist the urge to re-do them.

Maybe it is because I had them on my hook/needles for so long and during the creating process started to bore of them? It doesn't really bother me, but sometimes Mr P gets a lil' exasperated with it all. Especially when my frogging extends to his blanket.

I finished it at the end of last year and you can see it in all its former glory {here}, but since then it has been an eye sore for me. Not even sure why but it bugged me to no end. Mr P was happy with it but it annoyed me that it was not wide enough for my liking and somehow the stripes did not work for me either.

So, I asked the Dude if I could please, please frog the blanket and start again and much to my relief he said yes ( I think he knew if he would put up a fight I would whine a lot...he really had not a chance in hell, poor lamb)

I decided I wanted a blanket for him made from larger granny squares, as I can hook them easy while watching TV. I have four different colours to use, so I am alternating three of them in all possible combinations and join them as I go along. I am about 50% done and loving it, but I haven't taken a more recent picture yet.

For now you will have to make do, with the first picture I took of the beginning squares.

Crochet Ole - The CAL Pt I

I am pretty excited that I have joined a year long CAL (crochet-a-long) on Ravelry.
Now it may sound quite overwhelming to commit to a project for a whopping 52 weeks but I actually LOVE this one as we only crochet one 12" square per month. At the end of the year each participant will have enough for a nice blanket, without any stress involved.

What I love most about this is that fact that I am getting rid use of all the left over yarns I cannot seem to find a purpose for. That also means that the finished Afghan will most likely to be kinda quirky as the colours range from muted to bright.

For January we have been using the Woolly's Snowflake pattern for our square and I enjoyed it so much that I made two squares. I decided that to get a decent sized Afghan, I will need more than 12 big squares - so each month will have me complete two of the same. BUT to make it more interesting I will change the colours in each square. Difficult to describe so let me show you what I mean.

Square 1:

And now the same colours only the opposite way.

Square 2:

Isn't it kind of amazing that the same colours used in a different order make the end product look so different?
Now I cannot wait to see what our February square will be.

Granny Vest

Here is another piece of clothing I have added to the shop - a cute vest made from some big granny squares.
I actually love the colour combination which was more of a happy accident.
When I was sorting out all my left over yarns from the blankets and pillows I made, I found that the colours would look like fun in a big granny square.

The intention was to make some pillow cases for the bedroom, but when I started to add the black yarn, the idea for my vest was born.
