Tilda's Ice Cream Cone

Hiya folks! We've had gorgeous weather here on the East Coast that's been leaning a bit toward crisp fall temperatures. I'm not quite ready for the cold so I'm going to imagine hot sunshine for an excuse to enjoy a yummy ice cream cone with Tilda!

These vibrant colors are found on Bo Bunny's "Vicky B" collection. I love the brightness of orange, pink and lime!

This sweet Magnolia Tilda was colored with Prismacolor pencils and layered up for that 3D effect. The crochet flower -a gift from a dear friend- adds a great touch of texture. You can imagine the butterfly and ladybug charms coming to life and flitting around this lovely little garden!

An extension of the "garden" is found inside along with an area for a sweet sentiment!

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you have a gorgeous day!

Cheers,
Susan

Destination: Paradise!

Hello, hello creative friends! Since I didn't make a lot of paper projects last year and yet didn't stop buying (is that considered hoarding?), there's a lot hanging around. Here's how the leftover scraps of Graphic 45's Tropical Travelogue inspired me this week.

I cut out the lady and set her outside the window frame, as if she's showing off her fantastic South Pacific view.

I wanted to clip the "destination" tag and the "paradise" ticket together but the chipboard ticket was too thick. I used a Cricut spatula to cut the thickness in half. It seems so simple but I was pretty thrilled to think that one up. It's the little things!

Here's a view of the inside. I really like the fold on the left - you'll see a lot more like it.

I ordered a sheet of the floral background paper to use as gift box top - hopefully it will arrive today, 'cause you know there is more fun stuff in that order!

Thanks for visiting today! I hope you have a creative weekend. :)

Cheers

TBS DT: Closet Inspiration

Happy Monday to all my crafty friends! This week the Beary Scrap design team is showing you new inspiration for our current "Find Inspiration In Your Closet" challenge. When I stood in my closet I was struck by how... er ... boring my wardrobe is these days. I wear a lot of black and khaki and don't go in for the fun and funky detailing you see on a lot of fashion these days. (Oh boy do I sound old!) In lieu of the fancy stuff and avoiding the flowery knickers in my girly drawer (for your sake, really), I decided to love all over my purple and green plaid linen bathrobe. Hey! It's not as dorky as it sounds!

Click for a bigger view!
I adore Prima floral papers and was happy to find a few that coordinate with the ol' cover-up. :) The bird and cage were made using a Tim Holtz/Sizzix die. The bird from a scrap of Prima paper and the cage from really thin cherry wood paper.

TBS DT: June Sketch

Hello crafty friends! It's another Monday - oh, how does the weekend go so fast? It was a beautiful one here, and we took advantage and trimmed trees and weeded. I hated the work but love the results!

This week the Beary Scrap design team is showing samples using our current Beary Sweet Sketch Challenge. We're adding a little extra element to our projects in the form of seam binding.

Here's my take on the sketch. I wasn't sure about the sketch at first, but fell in love with it as I pulled the Bo Bunny Vicky B papers together. There are so many wonderful designs in this 6x6 paper stack that I had no problem at all. I adore these colors!

I used the wooden dragonfly from Pink Paislee's Butterfly Garden collection (currently sold out in the store - sorry!). I gave it a base coat of pearly white and pink acrylic paints and then painted the body and part of the wings with glue, then sprinkled copper German Glass Glitter. On the wing tips I used the German Glass Glitter in white, with an itty bitty bit of Star Dust Stickles on the very ends.

The pink brads are from My Mind's Eye Madison Ave and the green swirl brad in the flower is from the We R Memory Keepers "Inspiration" Eyelet & Snap set.

The mulberry paper roses were spritzed with a light green Glimmer Mist and touched with Star Dust Stickles. The  crocheted flower is an Etsy find from an awesome seller called Willowfolk and the decorative pins are from my new Killam Creatables line (available on Etsy!).

TBS DT: Nature's Flutters

Hello hello and happy Monday to you! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I had a birthday... and it was good. *wink*

So, this is Week 2 of our Beary Sweet Nature Challenge, where you can enter any project that you think conjures up "nature" in your noggin. As a bonus challenge to the design team, we have to include a charm in our project. Easy enough!

Kimm just got this fun filmstrip ribbon into the store, and I decided to use that as my jumping-off point. Here's what happened when it all landed:

TBS DT: Tilda Jumps for Joy!

Hello crafty friends! It's Monday after a busy gardening weekend, which means I'm feeling achy but good after all that weeding. Phew! Who knew some weeds just don't die over the winter? I've got this wicked grassy stuff that sends out runners and .... oh my, you don't need to hear about my herb bed woes. Let's take a look at this week's Beary Scrap Design Team card, then! *So* much more fun.

We have a new sketch challenge for you, and I was inspired to color up a Magnolia stamp. I *know*! It's been a long time, but Tilda doesn't seem to be bothered - she's jumping for joy!

I layered her up and used copious amounts of Star Dust Stickles. The papers are the fun and springy Old World Cabbage Stew from Jillibean Soup. The butterflies are vintage images printed and cut out - I added wire antennae and Stickles for a little more detail. The pins are homemade.

Our Beary Sweet Sketch challenge goes on through May 14 - we'd love to see your entries based on this sketch. C'mon over and play!

Challenges, Please [Wow! I haven't been able to enter so many in AGES! Thanks for your consideration!]

Philadelphia Flyers and Layering Chalk Ink

Update 11/22/10: This card has been entered at Make It Monday Linky Party for a possible weekly feature at Michelle's Pink Paper Paradise blog. In Michelle's words: "Its a great way to showcase your favourite card or project to new people. You can even revive an old post. So come along link up and check out the other submissions and remember is all about just sharing the creativity and you may even find yourself making some new blog buddies." How great is that? Thanks Michelle!

Hello crafty friends! We made it over the hump (day). Yay! Today I want to share the last of a series of birthday cards made for a dear friend to give to her granddaughters. I have loved the work, but admit it was challenging, too. Generally, my cards are made to tickle my own fancy. These cards were made for specific teen girls whom I've never met but know a little about.

The most important thing I needed to know about Tiana is that she "bleeds Flyers orange". For a while I had no idea how to translate this onto a card ... until Kenny K released his All-Starz line. Hello Hockey Girl! I used Kenny K's images for the twins in July and the first November birthday. Kenny K has been very good to me and he doesn't even know it!

The ticket is my own design (duh) and the numbers are Tiana's birthday and age. I thought this was clever... *ahem* Susan=Dork.

What's up with the pennant, you ask? Weeelll, about 10 years ago I made this huge, wonderful Washington Redskins banner for friends. Each colored piece was hand-cut and layered from felt. I wish I had a good detail photo - sorry.

Then I made a Baltimore Ravens one for my husband, which I don't seem to have a photo of... (although it's hanging in the attic so I could show you if you want to make your own). This is a long way around to tell you sports teams and felt are in my blood. Ha! I figured since I could make these banners, why not a little pennant for the Flyers? Well , let me tell you, there's a biiig difference between a 30" x 40" banner and a 2" pennant. *sheesh* I am the queen of biting off more than I can chew! It worked out, though. I think it's cute, if obviously hand-cut! *grin*

Anyway, Hockey Girl is layered twice - the hat, left arm and left leg are all popped up. It kinda makes her a little more sassy, don'tcha think?

Oh, I wanted to share an example of layering chalk inks. I've talked about it before, and remembered to snap it in progress so you could see what I've been blathering on about.

I first "edged" the paper in orange chalk, but it seemed too orange, so I added a little dark brown to the very edge and over the orange a little.

See? The orange peeks through but has a little dimension now. That's the great thing about chalk inks - you can layer!

So here's the finished card with gift box. Honestly, I'm a little sad that it's all over. Julia, thank you *so* much for your friendship and your trust. You haven't seen this last card yet, so I hope with all my heart it makes you happy.

Challenges Entered
Card Recipe
  • Digital Stamp: "Hockey Girl" from Kenny K Downloads
  • Paper: Bazzill Basics in Mud Pie and Navel; Basic Grey Ambrosia in Tangy, Quince and Fresh Squeezed for the envelope
  • Medium: Copics for skin; Prismacolor pencils with OMS; Stickles in Icicle, Spiced Marmalade, Star Dust; Versa Magic chalk ink in Orange Spice and Jumbo Java
  • Embellishments: Kaisercraft Pearls; Ivory satin and sheer ribbons from stash; Mulberry flowers from Prima and The Beary Scrap; Pins from Grandma
  • Tools: Scor-Pal; Cutter Bee scissors; sewing machine; printer
  • Adhesives: Scor-Tape; Silicone glue; Glue Dots - I'm really liking these 1/8" ones in place of the normal foam dots I use. I suspect the foam dots don't stay on as long. I know heat affects them.
So,  there you have it! Thanks for stopping in today.

Cheers,
Susan

TBS DT: Jolly Old St. Nick

Hello hello blogging friends! i hope you had a spectacular weekend in your neck of the woods. Husband and I visited a dog show so we could stare at all the beautiful Dobe Boys and Girls. Ours runs more toward the Dobe Goof side of the breed family, and we love every bit of him. It is nice to see the ladies and gents, though. *wink*

After that I hunkered down in the studio. I managed to finish 2 cards from weeks ago and create today's card and a commissioned Philadelphia Flyers (professional ice hockey) card for a girl. I'm really pleased with it and will share here later this week.

Today kicks off a new Beary Sweet Challenge, and our theme is
Anything Goes!
Haha - I love this kind of challenge since it allows me complete freedom. Of course, this was a no-brainer for me since I started designing this card in my head waaay back when I first got my mitts on the My Mind's Eye Holly Jolly papers. With this challenge I was finally able to use it.

Santa is too delicious to be *just* a background element, don'tcha think? I had 2 of the same sheets and cut one Santa out. I painted him with Distress Crackle paint and layered him onto the second. Oh, I also I lightly inked the cut-out edges before painting with the crackle. I used Stickles on the holly and berries in his hat, too.

Here's a little note about Stickles - I have both the "Christmas Red" and "Gold" but find that "Candy Cane" and "Diamond" are much more suitable. When compared side by side, the former seem too bright.

The delightful ribbon is new to The Beary Scrap and I *love* it! I used 2 strips and wove gold embroidery thread through the centers. It was a bit of a brainstorm, and I'm really happy it hit me. I have tons of embroidery thread from years (er... decades?) ago that I've never used. Now it will be put to a good use! Yay!

The tag and tag holder thingy are Tim Holtz... stay tuned for TH products at TBS. *verybiggrin* The holly leaves (edged in Diamond Stickles) and red gems are from stash.

TBS DT: Thankful For You

Hello friends! Hope you had a great weekend. We had a little family gathering to celebrate Grandma's 89th birthday. Now my wonderful in-laws are visiting and doing a little granddog sitting while Husband and I have a wee midweek fling in Philadelphia. *grin*

This week the design team is using the BSC #13 sketch with a little added challenge just for us: Apple, Pear, Pumpkin. This is open to interpretation and could be the foods themselves, their colors, or a combination of the two. Or even something I can't think of right now. :) See? It's all open to interpretation *and* imagination...

I had a little problem at first... 'specially since I'm dying to use my new Christmas papers which have nothing to do with apples, pears or pumpkins. I poked around my paper bins and found the awesome Pink Paislee 365°. Of course, it's absolutely perfect so I opted for "sketch plus colors".

You'll notice I barely layered on this one. *gasp* I was unsure about a green dress so I figured I'd try it on the bottom layer first. (Normally I don't completely color the bottom layer - just the edges.) It turned out so well that I decided to use it.

Card Recipe
  • Stamp - Magnolia
  • Paper - Bazzill Basics in Mud Pie; Pink Paislee 365° 6x6 pad and "Be Free" (stripes) in 12x12
  • Medium - Copic E0000, E01, E11 for skin; Prismacolor pencils with OMS; Colorbox Fluid Chalk in Chestnut Roan and Creamy Brown; Stickles Crystal and Diamond; Distress Stickles in Spiced Marmalade
  • Embellishments - Kaisercraft Pearls in Snow; May Arts Crocheted Lace (brand new in store - call to order); Satin ribbon (large and woven into lace) from stash; ticket - my design and Kimm's sentiment (thanks a bunch!)
  • Tools - Scor-Pal; Cuttlebug Embossing Folders
  • Adhesives - Scor-Tape and 1/8" Glue Dots
Hope you can find inspiration from this... and while you're feeling so inspired *grin*, please join our Beary Sweet Sketch Challenge! It's going on now through November 14th. See you there!

Cheers,
Susan

CLP #31 Sketch

Please scroll down for my Beary Scrap Challenge #13! I will announcee my Inking Pink Blog Hop winner tomorrow - thanks so much for hopping along with us!

It's November 1st and time for another Crafting Life's Pieces Sketch Challenge! Yay! We have another gorgeous sketch and fabulous samples from the design team. I love working with these talented ladies! Please be sure to check them out HERE. :)

I used the delightful Puppy Post - isn't he the cutest little guy? the papers are Bazzill solids and Basic Gray Wassail. I received the stamp digitally (they are unmounted rubber stamps in the store) and printed on the new Copic X-Press. I'll write more in it another time, but just know that I LOVE it with my Prismacolor pencils and OMS. Oh yea, it works with Copics, too. Haha!

He is layered - #1 is the full image, #2 is the post box (to give it a rounded effect) and the puppy, and layer #3 is the ears and letter. I used silicone glue in between the layers.

And here is Chelsea's beautiful CLP Challenge sketch. I hope you can use it and join our challenge!

This month we're sponsored by Lili of the Valley, a UK Company which has a simply gorgeous range of unique un-mounted rubber stamps. The winner will be getting a £10 gift voucher to spend at Lili of the Valley.

Come join us!

Susan

TBS DT: Dracula Edwin

Hello hello! It's Monday, and you know what *that* means... It's my day to show you a Beary Sweet Challenge-inspired sample. Our BSC #12 challenge is to use misting on your project, and I've Glimmer Mist'd the heck outta Dracula Edwin and his lair. No, it's not garlic-flavored Glimmer Mist! I'd like to keep this little cutie around for a while, but he's already spoken for. *sigh*

I did "the usual" with pearl Glimmer Mist - spritzed the flowers (except the velvet Petaloo), black branches and vintage vampire fang tag. The best part of my misting, though, is the dry-embossed coffin - I dipped a teeny tiny paint brush into the Glimmer Mist bottle and painted the embossing! How cool is that?! I also painted Edwin's bow tie, purple cape trim and shoe strings. I really like the effect and definitely plan to use it with other mist colors.

Here is a glimpse of the easel flap. Inside is a panel for Happy Halloween greetings.

TBS DT: Boo!

Hello hello dear friends, and happy October to ya! It got cooold this weekend and was a bit of a surprise. I *knew* it was going to get cold, but I forgot how October can be here. That's what sweaters are for, though. I love a warm cozy sweater!

This week The Beary Scrap's design team is bringing you projects created with a Halloween theme. Click HERE for the current Beary Sweet Sketch Challenge - it's a fun one!

The most important thing I can tell you about my card is this: It kicked my butt! Haha! I've been admiring stamp-free cards lately, and decided to give it a go myself. Honestly, it felt a little like my very early card-making days... and it was uncomfortable. BUT I stepped out of my current style box and tried something different, about which I'm very happy (the end result? Eh. But I tried!). I used a ton of "product" and still let the paper tell the story. I like that.

The card is a combination of Cosmo Cricket's Haunted (in-store only) and My Mind's Eye "Halloween Wishes". I've gone and used black card stock as my base once again... it's a trend!

This swirl is part of Pink Paislee's Artisan Elements pack. They are paintable swirls and bits that you can spritz or paint to match your project. Love! I dripped a little Black Soot Distress Ink onto the swirl and tilted it around until it covered the whole element. It took a long time to dry, but it was worth the wait!

The cream and black diamond paper was embossed with a Cuttlebug folder and randomly inked with Charcoal chalk ink to give the hint of dark. I decided it needed more, so I sprayed (too much?) Pearl Glimmer Mist all over. If I planned this out, I would have sprayed with GM *then* embossed and inked. I was worried that I would lose my embossing when the paper was wet... luckily, no. Phew!

"Boo" started out as unfinished die cut letters. I dripped slate alcohol ink (the closest to black I have) on each letter to give it a dark base and set it aside to dry. Once it was ready, I layered black Stickles to cover completely and set aside once again. It's very sparkly!

Tomorrow Gini will haunt these pages, so please come back!

Cheers,
Susan

Let's Have A Drink!

Hello friends! Today I'd like to share an Appletini with you. *wink* I colored this image last week and just wasn't inspired by any papers in my stash, so I set it aside. Yesterday, as I was eyeing up my design team goodies from The Beary Scrap I had an "Ah ha!" moment. This sassy image pops on my fab new Basic Grey Origins paper.
I put my own spin on the "priscillastyles" Midnight Madness sketch:

I just couldn't make the angled panels work, though - too distracting to my eye. The beads are of my own making. The bottom ones dangle and swish back and forth a bit. Here's a closer look:

I used black Stickles on her dress and Glossy Accents on the glass and her lips. Oh, and that deliciously wide lace is from Grandma's stash. Thanks Grandma!

Challenges
Midnight Madness #42 - Sketch
Cuttlebug Challenges - Stitch It!
Stamp With Fun #47 - Stitch
Corrosive #51 - Sew It Up!
Fussy and Fancy #4 - Dazzle Us!

Recipe
Stamp: Sassy Studio Designs - Cosmopolitan
Paper: Basic Grey Origins, assorted Bazzill
Medium: Copics for skin, Prismacolor pencils, Stickles, Glossy Accents, Colorbox Chalk Ink on the edges
Embellishments: My handmade baubles, brads and Grandma's lace (wow... that's it?)

Thanks for stopping in! I'd love to hear your thoughts about this project.

Don't forget we're *this* close to the official launch of The Beary Scrap Design Team Blog! Join us Monday, March 1 for kickoff blog candy, our weekly theme announcement and our first DT project post by the oh-so-talented Gini Cagle (Beadz). Whoo hoo!

Cheers,
Susan
