Feeling Pink, Flutterby Wednesday #131

It seems that I've grown temporarily bored of Christmas this week. First I went all fan-girly with Koukussa Kortteihin K-18 (NC-17) -challenge which was all about dead stars. I made a tri-shutter card starring Heath Ledger.

I used a lot of digi elements in this one: The film strip used is a Photoshop brush by Jelena Jovovic. Papers are from Song n Dance -digi paper pack. I resised them to fit A4 paper. Butterflies are also created with a Photoshop brush, Wing Set by Becs-Stock. Finally, quote was set to a Fun Doodle Tag by Pixels & Icecream which I purchased quite a long time ago from MyGrafico. Unfortunately set isn't sold anymore.

Next is a perfect example how things just don't always "click". I needed to do a quick tealight card for a friend. I bought a cute little fairy tree house from Make 'It' Crafty. First I colored it with ProMarkers but it ended up being somewhat dark or muddy. I tried again with Distress Inks and this time the result was a bit better. I chose some nice flowers to go with it, added some goose biots and pearl string... still the result is somehow flat. Maybe the elements are set too low on the blank or something. It's still my participation on this weeks Flutter By Wednesday "everything goes".

I made some nice findings from craft fair this weekend. Taitokierre was selling all their beads in ridiculous prices as they're shutting down their import busines. I bought some clock faces, metal parts and cute little Swarovski butterflies. I also got a new X-cut border punch from Skräpteekki and a nice die set by Marianne Design from Angela Production.

I used them and left over pieces from Heath-project to make this:

Candles Everywhere

Our apartment smells a bit funny at the moment. I've been buying different colors of scented tea light candles for cards. Different color just tends to mean different scent as well and as much I love scented candles the mixture is always as pleasant.

I made my first smaller candle cards a few days ago. I have to admit they're quite nice as well and a lot faster to make than the bigger ones as the box part is simpler.

Tea Light Cards

There's been a huge fuss over different kinds of tea light cards lately. I didn't get too exited over the first model I saw but the second one took my breath away. First I decided I'd do some for christmas but I just HAD to try some already and I didn't have any fun christmas materials. Thus my godmothers get a bit different Thank you -cards than rest of our wedding guests.

I used Sizzix Bigz -die Flowers, Daisies to create the white flower and distressed them a bit with Antique Linen Distress Ink like the rest of the card. Then I made some swirls with Sizzix Sizzlits -dies. Patterned papers are from Me & My Big Ideas A Beautiful Life -stack and that beautiful ribbon was sent by Stephanie. Thank you again for it!

Pictures were taken while the boxes were still empty. I added some green tea light candles in them later.

First Time for Everything

I've been playing with candles in few different ways this week. First I made some tindle roses out of egg cartons and melted candles while I waited pies to bake. I've seen directions for these in several places but I think Annan Aarteet was the first I saw. Unfortunately I couldn't find any in English.

I added two coats of stearin because the color was so light. After the first coat roses were still mainly gray. These turned out pretty but I think I'll use red or some other darker color if I make these again.

The plate beneath is just a paper plate with some crocheting on the edge. I used my Crop-a-dile to punch holes around it and some cotton yarn to crochet simple shells.

Another first time was stamped candles. I've seen several instructions for these as well but have never tried them before. For example here's a good step-by-step guide for them. Using as thin candles as I did was a bit of a challenge because my fingers had to be so close to the heat gun. My poor fingers were burning the whole time.

I used Distress Ink in Peeled Paint to stamp the Inkadinkado -swirl on tissue paper. These are for our wedding. We used a swirl from the same set for envelopes and will propably use them for other things as well. I still have over 30 candles to decorate but I really think it adds something special to our setting.
