Boho Basil Paper Corset

In her gypsy caravan she traveled around the old country giving intuitive readings to those who would request it. A bit of a loner but never lonely she enjoyed her nomadic, creatively fulfilling life of freedom. I can still hear her wisdom whispered in dreams and omens as she speaks to me from that other worldly place.

"Boho Basil" paper corset
Boho Basil started out brown with flecks of white because the paper I used was brown on one side and white on the other so the white came through on the torn edges. The poor thing just screamed "cow hide" and Basil wouldn't have it.  I had to agree so I started over.

Wielding a rather heavy hand with the distress ink, this girl definitely looks well aged. Actually I couldn't make up my mind about whether I wanted to use distress ink to color the whole thing brown or not but I think this works.

Without giving much thought to color, I used bits of white scrap paper left over from the last project to embellish the skirt. I rather like the look of the creams and whites together. There's something just yummy about it.  Look for your diary page and inspirational video to post tomorrow.

May Corset Inspiration

I'm always on the lookout for something just a little bit out of the ordinary as far as inspiration for my paper projects go. I mean, who wants to settle for tired and mainstream when you can have unique and unexpected?

A slight deviation from the ballet tutu in that only the sides are flared out. The panier style similar to that worn under skirts by ladies of 18th century Europe makes this a tasty morsel of a corset idea. It's definitely got a unique charm!

Corset Peasantry or Bust

Not to drive the poor horse into the ground or anything but I did find more examples of that bust line I've been trying to illustrate with some difficulty.

November is all about Thanksgiving and since the original guests of that first holiday celebration were, well, peasants I really wanted to emphasize that peasantness with the bust line.

Did pilgrims even wear corsets? Probably not but who knows. Anywho, the point I'm trying to make is that we're going for a simple, more plain look in our corset this month. That's all. Thoughts?

Confections of a Dusty Rose Corset

Whilst ravaging the internet (as I often do) for vintage corset inspiration I came across a most gorgeous delight. This corset was found in an antique store by Kerry who publishes a blog called I Love My Home. Couldn't you just look at this for days?!

The wheels are spinning, ideas are formulating, and paper corsets may soon be evolving yet again. Dusty rose, vintage satin and aged tulle beaded with pearls. Couple all that with the flowering vines and I can't help but see the makings of a fine art piece in this divine little confection. We've GOT to make one of these.

November Corset Inspiration

Fall is all about those muted earth tones and even though I've never been wild about fall colors who says I can't turn my orange and rust into dusty rose and annex it as part of my fall pallet? Of course it helps that dusty rose lends itself very well to that antique, aged look that we all like so much.

Fred & Ginger corset
This month I'd like to try something a little different. I'm going for the one piece look, just a slight hint of panty at the bottom of the corset. No skirt this time because I want to play around with adding some garter straps instead. (love the lacy panties in this illustration)

You know me, I like combining what I consider to be the "best of" qualities in each design and coming up with something new. With these corsets it's mainly the one piece look combined with the low cut bust line of the red corset below that really excite me for the November corset of the month.

On a side note, looks like interest in the dimensional corsets is gaining momentum so I think a tutorial on how to make those could perhaps be coming sooner than expected. I'm still undecided but I'll keep you posted. Toodles for now.

Visual Snack Time: It's Vintage and Pink

Do you get excited over creamy pink and sepia tones? Does the idea of scripty french writing and vintage corsets and lingerie make your flea market loving heart flutter? If you're like me and bored of seeing the same tired corset collages with the roses pouring out of the bust line, have I've got a visual snack for you.

Happy Birthday and Vintage Corsets

Happy birthday to me today! I think I've turned 29 about a dozen times now (maybe a few more). Ha! I've got the day off and guess what I'm working on?

Paper Corset Diaries: Inspiration I

We're going to get a little more dimensional in this series. This could get frustrating for some of you so I won't be putting out as many templates this time. You can still follow along and enjoy the journal goodies however.

I thought we would start as simply as possible to dip our proverbial toes in the corset making water. That said, we'll go with this under bust number. I think this has a lot of room for artistic license for those who want to get fancy.

Season of L'amore and Vintage Paper Corsets

Ah, tis the season of l'amore and to go a step further than just a corset, how about a ruffled, paper replica of a vintage corset that's so stinkin' cute you'll want this for yourself.

I absolutely love this thing to the point where I've decided that this will be the paper couture outfit I will use to launch the displays I've been planning for months! This scrumptious vintage corset could not be more perfect!

Damask Pattern

A damask print is the only thing exquisite enough to use as the pattern for the vintage corset I'm planning for February's paper wardrobe project.

An image search for damask pattern returns a plethora of results but this one was by far my favorite. Best of all, this is free for your use. This tiles together easily so play around with size and color. Enjoy!
