One Martini, Two Martini

It's time for another sketch from the fabulous team at Freshly Made Sketches and this week our hostess is the super-talented Jen Mitchell.

For some bizarre reason, as soon as I saw Jen's sketch, I wanted the back layer to be vellum.  I don't know why but the thought just wouldn't budge, so I had to work with it!

I took a few liberties with the sketch with the top layer being die-cuts but I made sure it was slightly longer then the bottom panel and not as wide, so I'm calling it as having met the brief 😉

I made a shaker card of the martini glass and for the sentiment, I embossed black cardstock several times with clear embossing powder to give it a raised and shiny surface.

Thanks so much for visiting - I do appreciate you taking the time.  My fellow teamies have some gorgeous cards using the sketch, so please check them out.

Will Always Love You

Welcome to another challenge from the team at Freshly Made Sketches!  This week our hostess is the fabulous Jen Brum and she has a classic and versatile sketch for us.

Now, I completely got the orientation of the sketch wrong, as you will see.  99% of the cards I make are top-folding portrait, but for some reason, I went for a landscape layout for this layout, so apologies to Jen!

My fellow teamie, Kim, is on the Taylored Expressions design team and when I saw her cards featuring these fun music themes a month or so ago, I just had to have them!  The blue panel was sponged with distress inks, leaving the center lighter than that outsides.  I then over-stamped with a music background stamp and Stone ink before adding the sentiment with black ink and clear-embossing over the top.  Now admit it, aren't you singing that song now? 😁

A cute little die-cut record and some heart-shaped music notes finished the card.

Thanks for visiting.  Check out how the rest of the team have used the sketch (with the correct orientation, I might add!)

Bouquet of Leaves

Welcome back!  This card came together over a couple of evenings after work.  I had some leaves left over from this card so I pulled them out to make a card using the sketch at Mojo Monday, the Nature theme at Cardz 4 Guyz, and the Leaves themes at The Male Room and Just Us Girls.

I used Antique Linen ink and my Scribble Script stencil to stencil on both the card base and the ivory panel.  With the already-prepared leaves I spritzed them with Antiqued Bronze Mica Spray and also flicked some on with a paint bruch.  I gave the same treatment to some die-cut foliage cut from brown cardstock.

I stamped the sentiment which is actually a speech bubble but I masked off the "speech" part and then arranged all the elements onto the card and adhered everything with glue.

Finally, I placed a black tag and a smaller leaf to mimic the banner and tag in the sketch and added some twine.

Thanks for visiting.

Father's Day

This Sunday is Father's Day here in New Zealand and I wanted to make a special card for my father.  I decided to go with the Mojo Monday Tall & Skinny sketch and combined that with the stitching challenge at Simon Says Stamp, the "no designer paper" theme at Sweet Stampin' and the "F" challenge at Cardz for Guyz.

I used a new stencil and my new stencil brushes to make the blue and green panels.  Once I'd finished brushing ink onto them, I stamped some of the splatters from Distressed Patterns using silver ink before cutting them to size..  My card base is 7" x 4" and I adhered the blue panels top and bottom, leaving a blank spot in the middle.  The green panel was matted onto a black backing and the sentiment was white-embossed onto a strip die-cut with a die from Blueprints 6.  For tha flag, I used a strip of vellum and clear-embossed the silver splatters to tie it into the rest of the card.  I then stitched the vellum and the blue panels onto the card base.

The words were die-cut from Little Letters dies and positioned in the bottom right corner of the green panel - and yes the 'love' is slightly crooked :)

That pretty much sums up my card.  Thanks for visiting and I hope my dad will like this.

Embossed Holidays

Hi and welcome!  I'm back with my card for Camp Create's Background Bonanza and I've made a Christmas card using a few small stamps from a couple of MFT sets.  I've also loosely used the sketch from CAS(E) This Sketch and I'm linking up to Cardz for Guyz who have a Christmas in July theme.

I white embossed small images from Santa's Elves and Hand Lettered Holidays onto some Kraft cardstock.  I then outlined most of the images using a C1 Copic marker to make them stand out a bit more.  The panel was cut with a Blueprints 29 die.  A big sentiment was stamped with Archival Black ink onto a strip of vellum and adhered to the kraft panel which was then stuck to a white card base using foam tape.  I finished the card with a few clear sequins, which I hope aren't too girly :)

Thanks for visiting.

Lucky 13

I took advantage of the recent 20% off Ranger sale at Simon Says Stamp and got some new Tim Holtz products to play with.  So this morning I delved right in and created this card using a new stencil and texture paste.

I stenciled over the Industrial stencil using Ranger Texture Paste onto some Specialty Stamping Paper.  Once it was dry, I sponged over the panel using the ColourQ colors, or in my case, Weathered Wood, Peacock Feathers and Vintage Photo.  I then flicked some water onto the panel.  What I noticed was that as well as bleaching the cardstock, it also bleached the texture paste, so I went back over all the raised parts with a paintbrush and some water to make the stenciled image stand out more.

I kept the layout really simple - a Basic Gray cardbase, a strip of Hawaiian Shores down the left hand side and a white-embossed sentiment banner.  I finished off with a couple of homemade enamel dots in the closest color I could find to Taken With Teal.

I'm entering this card into the following challenges:  ColourQ, The Male Room, Simon Says Stamp and Cardz for Guyz - the last three all having Father's Day/Male themes for their current challenges.

Thanks for visiting.

Sad Dog

It's time for another fabulous sketch at Freshly Made Sketches and this week our hostess is the wonderful and talented Jennifer Timko.  And Jennifer has come up with the type of sketch that I just love - lots of wide open space:

I decided to use that space to create a little scene using some NBUS stamps by MFT.  I stamped, colored and die-cut the dog, kennel and bowl. and then arranged them onto a panel that I'd sponged with some grass and sky.

I white embossed the sentiment and had the dog "standing" on the sentiment to ground him a bit.  The whole panel was popped up on foam tape and a thin strip of black and white striped patterned paper was adhered down the left side.

Thanks for visiting!  Be sure to check out the fabulous creations by the rest of the team.

I'm entering this card in the latest challenge by Cardz for Guyz who are looking for wood in the design.

A Little Birdie

It's time for another fabulous sketch from SugarPea Designs and this week, we've got a fun one for you to try!

I used the versatile Everyday is Christmas set for my card and made a birthday card:

I stamped and colored the adorable little bird using Copics and cut him out with the matching dies.  I then used the Zig Zag Stitched Circles and Rectangles dies for the various panels on the card.  The sentiment comes from Feeling Sentimental which has fun sentiments matching the image set.

A few sequins and the card was finished!  I'm linking this card to the Birds of a Feather challenge at Cardz for Guyz.

Music Notes

Hi!  Here's my first card of the weekend, which I made using the challenge at Friday Mashup, the colors from Cardz for Guys and the sketch from Sunday Stamps.

I started by white embossing the Sheet Music Background onto some white cardstock and then sponging over the top with Tumbled Glass and Stormy Sky ink.  I then cut it with a stitched curved die.  The headphones were die cut out of black cardstock and also some blue cardstock that I made by rubbing Faded Jeans ink onto some white card.  The curved panel and the headphones are popped up on foam tape.

The sentiment comes from the Noted set by SugarPea Designs.

Thanks for visiting.
