Oh my, it's old... but I do have a card to share.

Today's Shout Outs:

ShareaCard, Donna McE (2), Barbara Diane, Christi B

****************************

Dear friends,

I am continuing to feel better and stronger each day.  I need to keep that strength up since I will continue on my chemo schedule and be in the infusion center this Thursday.  Lucky for us, Kevin's Mom is continuing to stay with us until we get over this next hump.

My Mom had a wonderful friend that was willing to drive her up here (3+ hour drive) since she just had surgery not that long ago.  We had a nice visit and it was good see her.

I had never in my wildest dreams thought I would be in such need of so many people at this early stage of the game called life but I am.  One of the things I can say though is that I am ever so grateful that I have so many friends and family that are there for me to be needful of. (phew... I thought I had edited...geesh! if you missed it thank Goodness)

**********************************************************
Oh my.... I do have a card to share with you...imagine.  It has been such a long time since I crafted anything (months) and this card was created months ago it seems like.  Still need to get down to my space and do stuff.

As you know... I do a lot of thinking and some of it is appropriate and some of it isn't, but it's funny and sad to me at the same time.  I promise I'll share these future musings and ask your opinions!

Thank you so much for visiting, sharing, and loving me here!

Until next time.

Tidbits and Wedding Cards

Hi friends!

Wow... we made it to swimming lessons yesterday, but not without some angst!  So we get there and realize that Hunter and I did not communicate very well and we had no towels or goggles.  Then we get in there to pay and come to the realization that I had signed up for the 9:30am slot, but we were there at 11:00am - oops.  Luckily, they are very nice there and the boys went ahead and did their lesson, but I still had to race (and I mean race) back home for towels.  I didn't make it back on time, but was only a few minutes late, but when I got there the boys were all shivering.  Thankfully, there happened to be a friend there that was chatting with the boys.  When i first got there, I thought there was some strange lady probably asking the boys where their negligent mother was...

This next little anecdote is pretty funny and a reflection of our times.  I purchased some work books for the boys at the teacher store here in town and Nate was working on his but wanted me to "delete" a couple of letters he had written down.  I told him that it wasn't called "deleting", but "erasing".  Well, he continues to interchange the word "delete" for "erase"... quite funny!

And finally, my last little story happened when we were driving south over the weekend.  I don't know what the laws are elsewhere in the country, but here we have lots of casinos on Indian Reservations.  They are dotted quite extensively along the freeway and are quite conspicuous.  Anyway, there is one particular casino that runs quite a few commercials on tv, so as we are driving by one of them, Nate and Will pipe up, "is that Mukleshoot Casino?"  Kevin and I looked at each other and said, "nice, do you think they watch too much tv?"

Now for the crafty stuff, here are the wedding cards that I've been working on.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great Tuesday!

Until next time.

Baby cards

Dear friends,

Happy Monday!  Is there such a thing?  We are off to two more weeks of swim lessons for the boys and I'll be taking them every day which I'm grateful for. Interestingly enough, Nate was the only that got the "white" card after the last swim session.  He will be moving to level 3 while Will continues on at level 2.  This is the very first time that they will be separated, but both boys did really well with it.   Nate was excited to pass on to the next level and Will seemed quite satisfied that he would stay.

This fall when they start kindergarten, I opted to have them in the same class and that was really for our sanity.  It will just make life easier for us and then we'll see how they do this first year and think about it for 1st grade.  From what I've heard, if they happen to differ quite a bit in academics, it will separate classes for sure, but we'll just have to wait and see.

***********************************

So, I've been doing some card making and have a couple of cards to share with you today.  I've been focusing on wedding and baby cards.  I'll share the baby cards today and show you the wedding one's tomorrow.

Thanks for visiting and enjoy your Monday!

Love you

Dear friends,

I've got another card for you... just for fun!  Will be heading to the Dr.'s in about an hour, wish me luck!

Oh and if I confused you with my Tuesday Trigger card, sorry about that.  I was 2 weeks behind... I'll blame it on chemo brain!  Yikes... seriously, I used to be a pretty smart gal!

Until next time.

Today's Shout Outs:

I thought I'd share with you all that I have received over 650 cards from all of you. Can you say

A M A Z I N G

*****************************

Dear friends,

Thanks SOOO much for all your support the other day.  I knew if I came a calling you would know just what to say.  It is a crazy thing how one day can be so different from the next and yesterday was much better than Tuesday and today appears to be going well so far.

I know I've said this before, but seriously, the consistency is the inconsistency in all of this.  Today, I'm just dealing with lower intestinal issues.  This unfortunately is a consistent pattern that I do have to cope with.  After not eating for days it's a bit difficult on one's system to start eating again.

I also had to make a quick visit to the dentist as well.  It's not so much the chemo that is wreaking havoc on my teeth gums but rather the way I've been unconsciously grinding and clenching my teeth.  I am apparently treating them as "fence posts" and trying to rearrange my teeth myself.  This is manifesting itself in more space around my roots to allow decay as well as bleeding gums, specifically around the front of my top front teeth.  Don't ask me why there, but that is where all the bleeding is occurring.  It has been disconcerting because it has been happening when I vomit and I didn't realize where the blood was coming from until now...  just add it to the list.

But... here are some pictures of what today brought... only smiles and warm thoughts.  Here are some cookies that were brought to me by Marsha Drain (one of many angels I know).  She also brought bread but I missed taking a picture of that... that is Nate's hand :)

This is the empty laundry basket because Marsha took my laundry with her.  I can't thank her enough for her kindness as well as to all of you who offered if you were close by.  I have now officially met Marsha in real life which is a wonderful thing.  The first time I "met" Marsha was through crafting and blogging about 7+ months ago.  Amazing huh?

And finally, look at this beauty.  This beautiful orchid greeted Marsha and me as she was getting ready to leave. It is from a lovely woman who is the grandmother of a friend of my oldest son.  I have never met her in person (yet), but I know she reads my blog when she can and I want to simply say "thank you" isn't enough appreciation.

And finally, what also makes me happy is this.  I created this card while Kevin's Mom was here and I dedicate it to you all of course!

It takes time for you to take time for me and you deserve all the goodness that comes your way.

Until next time.

I appreciate you!

Dear friends,

Just a card to share with you that I created a while back.  I have blood work today and a CT scan as well... I will share results as soon as I get them :)  I also have a story to share that I will post later at some point.  You know, one of those food for thought experiences for me.

LOVE YOU

Dear friends,

I really had quite a productive weekend.  I got lots of things organized, sorted, and cleaned.  It felt really good to get it done and I of course have to give big kudos to my little sis for hanging with me and the kiddos this weekend.

Here is a card that I literally whipped up in a matter of minutes with scraps.  It's just a little 3 x 5 card, but it really turned out cute... cuter in real life though.

(Stamp from Papertrey ink)

Thanks for coming to visit... I hope you all had a great weekend.

Until next time.

Ordinary

Dear friends,

Guess what?  Today is a good day.  I'm going to do some cleaning and         L O T S of laundry with my sissy's help.  She is up visiting while Kevin is taking a little break of his own this weekend.  Not doing    L O T S of laundry of course, but we'll let the guy slide!

Sounds so ordinary doesn't it?  Love that don't we?  Ha... I know what you are thinking, hey yippy, as long as it's you who is doing the laundry and not me.

But, in the normalcy of the situation, here is a quick card to share with you that I made before we left for Disneyland.  So springy!

(image Papertrey ink- Flower Fusion 1)

I wish one and all a very normal weekend.

Until next time.

A Hoppy Celebration

Today's Shout Outs:

******************************

I've got some blog candy... click HERE if you'd like to throw your hat in the mix.

Dear friends,

Just wanted to let you know that the swelling for the most part has gone away.  I honestly believe that the swelling was the result of crafting the days prior to the swelling.  I craft standing and I actually been doing quite a bit for several days in a row.  Normally, I would have been having a chemo treatment and laying in bed afterwards.  We'll see how it goes at Disney, but I still have nearly a week before we are actually at Disneyland. I have to be honest and say that I don't want to be wheeled around in a wheel chair.  You won't believe how many of my friends have suggested this... and I know you are reading this too and shaking your head at me.

So, I got some new stamping goodies and quickly made a card before Kevin and I went down to Seattle for the night.  We had a nice quiet evening away from the chatter of the little ones.

This card uses some of my favorite patterned paper from Cosmo Cricket (pixie-liscious).  It is just so appealing to me.

Stamps: Papertrey ink
Cardstock/Papers: Papertrey ink, Cosmo Cricket
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, CTMH, Copic Markers

*******************************************************

Dear friends,

Happy Tuesday!  It is indeed a good day although it has been drizzly the last couple of days.  Only solace is that the rain brings growth, we won't talk about flooding and rising rivers :(

My monthly visit to my oncologist was yesterday and he has such a calming presence about him and its soothing.  I'm adding one more type of anti-nausea drug to try and we'll see if that helps or not.  None of this is an exact science and I realize that and am so grateful for such an understanding, and caring doctor that is doing his very best for me.

I also managed to get me a visit to my GI Doctor.  I really like him as well as his nurse.  I've come to the realization during this time that you need to like/respect/be comfortable/etc. with your healthcare providers.  Had a quick visit with  him (yay for a cancellation) yesterday and today I had a quick procedure called a flexible sigmoidoscopy.  It was just a quick 10 minute procedure, faculties intact, and it really wasn't so bad.  Something else I can add to my bucket list I guess.  Anyway, things are fine so don't worry.  I'll let you google the details if you want (hehe).

A couple of things happened during my appointment at the Oncologist's that I found interesting.  The first being that while we were waiting to square up some appointment details there was a woman that came to check in.  It was apparent that she was on the recovery side of cancer and that she came for check up visits, but she was so insistent that she come to this particular location versus the location at the hospital.  The Doctors work two sites at the moment.  Anyway, her issue was parking and she liked the parking in this particular location better since it was easier.  The other location parking was further and she ended up walking a bit.

BUT here is the key.  At the other location, there is a special garage parking set aside specifically for cancer patients.  Every time we have been there, there has been plenty of spaces.  This particular woman didn't want to use that special parking because she felt that she didn't deserve it or felt that she was past needing it.  On the one hand I understand her mental need to say that "I am better and I don't need it because I'm past that", but I really wanted to go over and say, "you do deserve that easy parking".  Kevin and I were going to let her know that there is always plenty of spaces, but she didn't hear our attempt to get her attention and then the timing wasn't there.  Just interesting and noteworthy....

The other tidbit was the gentleman we met in the waiting room.  He was very friendly and wanted to discuss cancer.  Turns out he had lung cancer, but he told me a tidbit that I would rather not have heard.  He was going on about how he lost his teeth after his chemo/radiation treatments.  Nice huh?  He actually said that his teeth just fell out... Yikes... I don't really know how often this happens and if it really were the meds that made them fall out.  I didn't ask to look into his mouth (lol).  And this morning my teeth are still here... yippy!

The joys of sharing notes and meeting strangers in the waiting room...

And finally, I have another thing to add to my "happy" times... card making of course.  Today is  my Dad's birthday and here is the card I created for him.

Stamps: SU!, PTI
Ink: CTMH, versamark
Cardstock/Papers: CTMH

Dear friends,

Finally, finally, I'm feeling better.  This last week was tough, but as usual, you were there to keep me going!  I thought I'd describe a little of what was happening with my physically.  For the most part, I've been following a pattern of sorts where I would start feeling better by Tuesday, but the last couple of rounds of chemo have taken a bit longer to get over the side effects, the main ones being the fatigue and nausea.  My oncologist did say way back when that the effects can be accumulative as time goes on.  These last two sessions are leaning towards this direction.

There are a couple of other issues that are starting to play a role too.  Last Thursday (morning of chemo) I woke up nauseated.  I knew this wasn't right because this is the one time that I had felt good.  Yes, I always got anxious the night before, but physically I have always felt the best right before each chemo session.  Add this to the fact that medical smells and such were also starting to affect me more strongly, plus whenever I'd start talking to someone about the process of chemo, it would again bring up slight nauseousness as well.  What all this boils down to is my BRAIN... not so easy to shut down and when combined with "real" icky feelings its hard to trust it.

Anyway, I'm going to sign up for some free sessions of visualization techniques that are available to cancer patients, as well as some acupuncture.   I realize I will probably need some help dealing with the psychosomatic symptoms and if it will help in other ways then kudos to the world and me!  Trust me, I'll keep you all posted.

The other ailment that was more annoying than debilitating was body soreness.  I can only assume that this might be the result of the neupogen shots?  I don't know,  except for the fact that to touch me was to make me sore.  This muscle achiness ran all the way from the bottom of ears, jaw, neck, down to my thighs.

And above all, the nausea... whoaaa nelly that was the ultimate killer.  When I'm nauseous, my mouth waters like you won't believe and add that to the fact that even water tastes bad, it's just a bad combo.  I have this urge to spit every 10 seconds, like I said, the whole experience is just gross.  I'd rather be so fatigued that I could sleep 4 days straight!!!  One more component that just adds to the mess and confusion can be the difficulty to keep up on the timing of taking all the different medications.

But the point is yay... its looking like the sun is shining on the other side!  I had an incredible urge to craft so I created a quick card for ya'll!!!  Oops, picture is slightly blurry, but a nice sweet and simple card.

Ingredients are mostly Papertrey ink

Until next time.

Eternity

Dear friends,

So this is the truth, I'm so incredibly tired physically and mentally that the other day I was so sad that tears didn't even come.  You know, its all the usual suspects and yes, life goes on which I'm grateful for, but just realizing that  its only been just shy of 3 months and yet it feels like an eternity.  I applaud so many of you out there with chronic illnesses that continue the fight whatever it may be.

I know it seems so ironic that I should feel like this when I just received such good news just last week, but this round of chemo was even harder than the last one.  Every morning my oldest tells me that he's sorry that I don't feel any better and it hurts me to have to hear him say that to me.  He doesn't know what else to say or how else to respond and really is there any other way?  I tell him its ok, but its not.  There is such heart ache out there and its so incredibly sad, sad, sad.

It has been interesting for me because ever since I shared the positive swing of events, you all have been right there cheering me on and sharing in such good news, but I just haven't been able to literally express the same enthusiasm, excitement, and joy that you have.  Don't get me wrong, there was NO better news that we could have received, ok, we could have, but you know what I mean.  Even with the good news, I physically feel the same and I physically look the same and at this point my future is the same.

At this very moment, I'm having a hard time dealing with the never ending quality of what the future holds.  I WISH there was an end... a good end... an end that I was guaranteed.  Time has such a duality to it.  On the one hand time seems like bliss and yet on the other hand it seems like torture.

I want to thank all you prayer warriors out there that have taken up my cause, it is doing good and I know you will continue to duke it for me!  I'm so appreciative of every kind thought and prayer that is said for me and my family.

Ok, enough of that (shaking my head)... I was able to do a bit of crafting before my last treatment which was number 6 and I made a treat box and put some candies in it for the nurses at the infusion center.  I then used another fundraiser image to decorate it.  Template can be found from Papertrey ink as well as the background stamps.

Until next time.

A Cancer hmmm... some thoughts... and a card....

Today's Shout Outs:

Sue Ann, Michelle A, Pat D, Suzanne D, Rita J, Clare B, Laurie W, Kelly B, Susan W, Diane J, Renee L, Julia A, Karen H, Courtney H, Laurie J, June K, Tom and Sandy R

A cancer hmmm....

Dear friends, its Wednesday and pretty much like clockwork, I'm nearly back to my usual emotional state of being which is a good thing.  I have a longer post that is "heavier", but I wanted to share just one of those weird to me, cancer "things".

After I got out of the hospital, my sister took me to the mall and we went to the make-up booth. The woman at the counter was very concerned for my soon to be very dry chemo skin.  Well, let me tell you (at least in my case) if you want the softest, smoothest, blemish free skin EVER... run to your nearest infusion center and get your chemo groove on!

It is the most bizarre thing ever.  Seriously, when I'm out I want to ask people to touch me.  I used to have what I called "chicken skin", I know so personal, but I hated those little bumps on the back of my arms.  Well let me tell you they are GONE!  I'm constantly telling Kevin to touch my skin because its so soft and smooth. Maybe now, I can move on from my stubble addiction to a new skin addiction. Who knew?

************************************************************************

Dear friends, (so this is the post that I was working on yesterday)

Today is Tuesday which means that its been 5 days since chemo and I'm starting to "perk" up just a bit.  My issues today really have to do this "metal" mouth taste.  It doesn't matter what I eat, nothing tastes good.  You'd think this wouldn't be problem, but I insist on trying to continually eat things that don't satisfy me, but might "taste" good.  I'd be better off just NOT to eat.  If I could do that, I might actually lose the pounds that I've managed to put on in the last six weeks.  I'm doomed to be the largest cancer patient alive if I keep things up.

The other other thing that has been bothering me the last couple of days are the jitters.  I just haven't felt good in my own skin and I have also been suffering from some sort of roaring in my ears.  I feel like there is just a lot of excess noise going on.

And of course the biggy that past us by was Valentine's Day.  In truth, Valentine's Day IS NOT a biggy for us.  I always make sure that Hunter has class valentines and I have always made sure they have been hand made... that's just we crafters do when we can, but otherwise, its not a big deal in the Renz household.  I'd smack Kevin upside the head if he dared spend a horde of money on pretty red roses, that's just me.  If I felt really romantic, we might sneak out the day after and buy a box of chocolates on clearance, again, just the way I roll.

But, of course being in this new situation, Valentine's Day holds a symbolism that was hard not to fuss over.  It saddened me that I'm the sick valentine now and that it just doesn't seem fair that I've saddled the love of my life with this new version.  It didn't have anything to do with Valentine's Day, but this treatment has been very hormonal for me and I can't say what the difference is or why. (I'm better today)

Nate said to me just earlier that he loves me no matter if I had hair or not, if it was short or long.  He also said that it was sad that I had cancer and that chemo made me tired, but I'd get better soon.  For some reason too, Will came up to the bed earlier and cuddled up and said that my cancer made him sad.  He really hasn't verbalized much compared to Nate.

I / We will climb out of this and really, there's not much climbing to do... we don't get sunk too deep or get too lost, but its good to let the hang head low and breathe deep.

As always, I rest upon all of you when I'm tired and you help me so much during the lost times.  Thank you all!

Until next time.

-Katie

I know this post has a lot... but here is a quick card that I made with Valentine's Day and Kevin in mind.  I chose these new colors that I got from Papertrey ink... an interesting combo.  I've been inspired by this wonderful blogger and her simple and clean style :)

You are Chair-ished

Hi everyone!  Long time no post I know.  I thought I would update you as to why I haven't posted in so long.  Today, I'm going to the Dr. to have an endoscopy done to check out my poor tummy.  I have not been feeling well and it got really bad the last couple of weeks.  Hopefully answers shall be received today.

But in the mean time here is a card that I made a while back that is just for you!  The frame is from Waltzingmouse Stamps and the chair is a Papertrey ink Stamp.  Papers are all Closet to my Heart.

Thanks for visiting and have a great day!

Absolutely Fabulous

Hey all, happy Monday :)  Its wet and dreary here... I know big surprise!  Today, I'm sharing a card with you that I made for someone who is "absolutely fabulous".... do you know who you are?  The image might give it away to that "someone".

Anyway, I went out yesterday morning to Michael's because they are having a rockin' sale.  Most of their punches are 50% off and I treated myself to a couple and while I was there, I always have to rummage through their $ bin.  I don't do wood mounted stamps for the most part, I don't like the quality of the $ clear stamps so I end up picking up the woodies.

So, I used a compilation of stamped goodness for this card.  The background was created using a set from Waltzingmouse Stamps, the chicken/rooster is the $ stamp, and the sentiment is Papertrey ink.  Add some ribbon and its all good!

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your Monday!!

Some Spooky Fun

Happy Sunday!  I hope your weekend is going well!  I've been working hard on my DT commitments, but I also needed to get some spooky cards going... although I think these are definitely more on the cute side than spooky side.

I got some new goodies in as well and managed to whip out 3 cards.  I figure I'll just share all 3 at once.  If I don't then they will just get lost in the shuffle.

I used all new Close to my Heart scrapbooking paper for all these cards mixed in with some Clear Dollar Stamps cardstock too.  The majority of the images are from Papertrey ink except for the spider and web... they are from a Clear Dollar Stamp called Spider Greetings.

So here they are!  I really like how this first one turned out!  I'm being super lazy so if there is any info you gotta know, just ask!

Happy Mother's Day

I would like to wish all the Moms out there a wonderful day today and in accordance with today, I'm going to share 2 cards that I made. One is for my Mom and the other is for my Mother-in-law. I honestly don't know if either one of them has seen them yet, but I did mail them, although not with a lot of room to spare.

So, I'll share my MIL's card with you first. I used some of my Graphic45 paper for her card and thought she would like this type of design. It is not my norm, but it was still lots of fun to create. It definitely gets me thinking though.

The bird is a stamp from Papertrey ink (exclusive anniversary set) and I used Tim Holtz inks to stamp. I cut the image out and used pop dots for some dimension.

I chose the word Charisma because I like this word and I thought it was a nice word to describe my MIL. That word is part of the Graphic45 paper and I just cut, matted and inked the edges a bit.

I also used some 1/4" silk ribbon and then topped it off with some Prima lacey flowers. I added some pearls to the centers and voila... all done.

I hope you like your card Ann... you are the best MIL!

***************************************************************************

My 2nd card is for my Mom of course and she is the bestest ever! She literally CHOSE ME! I wanted something soft for her... she loves roses and I always think of roses and pink when I think of her. But I didn't make a pink card for her. I actually picked the opposite of pink. I chose some very pretty paper in blues and greens from a purchase with purchase scrapbooking kit from Close to my Heart. All the elements I used on the card are from the kit... EXCEPT the stamp. The sentiment is actually from a Papertrey ink set.

I really like how this turned out and I know that she will love it too.

So with that.... Happy Mother's Day once again! Have a great day and thank you all for coming to visit me!!!

Monday, April 26, 2010

Hey friends, its Monday here... where did the weekend go? I had a great time with hubby yesterday on our motorcycle ride. It is in all actuality quite enjoyable and of course it is wonderful to get away just the two of us (we did meet up with friends).

Because of that though, I missed the Papertrey ink blog hop where the challenge was to use tissue paper. Even though I knew I would miss it, I still made a card for it because I do indeed love my tissue paper.

I chose to use it as an accent to my newly acquired (exclusive) Anniversary Set. This set is called Round and Round and it is a keeper.

I did my stamping and then just added punched tissue paper that I then colored with orange ink and wrapped around the end of a pen and glued on. Do you remember doing that back in elementary school?

I also had fun with this color combo... I don't consider it my norm either. Its basically light yellow, orange and green.

Thanks for stopping by today and I wish you a very happy Monday.

PS... First T-ball practice for the boys (twins) today.

Moxie Fab Tuesday Trigger Card

Happy Saturday! Today, I've got a card to share with you that I made for Moxie Fab's Tuesday Trigger. It was a great trigger (to the left) and was right up my alley with all the fun circles. Plus, I got to play with some new toys that I just received yesterday as well as grab some old too. Thrilled I was... (Yoda speak)

I used all Papertrey ink products for this card and finished it off with some divine black May Arts silk ribbon. Oh and I did use an EK Success border punch, but everything else is PTI.

And here is my card created from the trigger.

Thanks for stopping by today and have a great day.
