Blue Geese

Two more geese - for July, the colour was blue, so I've done one dark and one light blue.

And because I almost always am asked, it's a paper pieced pattern - you can find it here.

Purple Geese

This month's colour for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge is purple - when I began sorting my purple scraps, I quickly decided I didn't want to mix the red purples and the blue purples, so I decided to make two separate blocks. I think this will stand me in good stead over the course of the year, as well. I'm not sure what is planned colourwise for the year, but last year, there were several months with two or more colour combos (red, white, blue; green & red) which are great for some projects, but not what I want for the geese, so I have some plans for what else to do if multi-colour months come up.  (Like two blues - light and dark.)

Another flying goose...

This is the May colour on the So Scrappy Scrap Challenge - yellow. Amazingly, I actually had enough yellow scraps to make this one with only cutting into two slightly larger pieces. Last year I would have had enough yellow scraps, but since I got rid of lots of them last year, they were a bit thinner on the ground this year...

Flying geese

Finally catching up with the geese - I still have May to do (yellow) but as it's actually still May, I don't feel too bad about that one!

Flying Geese Circle

Judi asked about this pattern, but unfortunately, her account is set to no-reply, so I can't reply (and I'm not positive which Judi it is - I know several!). But Judi, if you are reading this, the geese pattern IS online, and can be found here:  http://piecebynumber.com/pastbom/colorwheelpatt.htm

Green Geese Circle

Green flying geese circle, as the colour of the month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge is green in February. Now I have red and green. Wonder what will come next?

Flying Geese Circle

Here's one of the things I worked on today - a block for my nod at 2012's Rainbow Scrap Challenge... While I am not out of scraps, per se (who ever is?) I don't have nearly such a problem with them as I did last year, so I am not taking part as fully in the challenge as last year. However, I do still intend to make one block a month in the chosen colour scheme, which at the end of the year, will give me 12 blocks for a quilt, which will be fun. Or it's possible I will only use 9 blocks - I may stick to single colours and avoid any combos; that's  a decision I'll take when I need to!   I also dug out my small red scraps and am piecing them together as enders and leaders as I did recently with the green scraps. There aren't that many (fewer than the green, certainly), but I'm sure there will be enough to do something with!

Geese Circles

After some more thought, I think I will redo the Farmer's Wife blocks in the taupes - I know I won't regret that, so it's better than trying to find some other piece of fabric in my stash which might work but I might get frustrated with partway through.

I do, however, have a plan for some of the batik stash - I'd like to make some of these blocks. I think I will do them with batik geese and either black or white backgrounds. Or perhaps some of each. Over here, there are links to the pattern, both using foundation piecing (which I will be doing) and templates, depending on what you like...

And as for the larger pieces of fabric I'd like to destash, well, there's always quilt backings!

More funky houses

These are some more funky houses, not from the blocks I had in stash, but made specially for two projects. This one above is part of what will be (providing I get it bound in time) the BQL Skinny Challenge for March/April. Here's the rest:

According to this month's guidelines, the piece will be 7.5x24". I think I made 8" blocks, so it might need a little trim, especially as it's not that heavily quilted.

And there are 4 more, this time joined into a square, which will get quilted up soon and donated to a school art show. Again, the blocks finish at 8".

Skinny Challenge

Nope, I'm not on a diet (not yet, anyway - probably soon!) - this is a piece for a challenge that BQL (British Quilting List) is doing this year - several times through the year there will be a challenge in a specific size and those wishing to take part can make a piece, which will then be available for swapping in a similar way to the way my ALQS works. The first challenge, due at the end of February, was for a piece 12x18", so I decided to try out something like a small piece I saw on Julie's blog recently.

This uses some (but not much) of my collection of Lonni Rossi fabrics, which I love, but never seem to find enough chances to use (they are quite large prints, in many cases).

I think it's come out well. If no one puts it on their "want" list, I shall be more than happy to keep it at home!
