Made It!

After four hectic weeks, I've come to the end of my first placement. In that time I've taught year 9s, 10s and 11s, come across some fantastic students, and some who are very entertaining but don't seem to get much done. I'm going to miss seeing all those faces every day!

But now, with a week till I go back to uni, there is finally some time for me to get reaquainted with the Janome (and just in time for the bobbin to start playing up again; how that happens after sitting idle for 4 weeks I have no idea!). I've started quilting A La Mode, with the aim of getting it done in the next 6 days. Easy!

Hopefully I'll have a bit of spare time to maybe play around with my Bliss candy bar, but we shall see...I do have assignments due the first day back...

Just So You Know...

...I haven't diasappeared into thin air; I got my teaching placement and started on Thursday. The school is a 45km trip from home, so there is a fair bit of travel involved. And I'm up to my arm-pits in Year 10 and 11 biology textbooks (it looks like a biology library exploded in my bedroom) as I start preparing classes for the coming week.

3 1/2 weeks to go, then regular programming will resume, as I imagine I won't have a lot of spare time for sewing in the coming weeks. I am still checking out everyones blogs though.

Intense

This week I had the first week of my DipEd (teaching degree), and it was intense. I only have two days each week, but they are 11 hour days, which means I leave home just after 7 in the morning, and get home a little after 8 at night. At the moment it's all a bit overwhelming, as I'm mid-year entry which means I don't have all the background from first semester that the other students have, but at least there are about 20 of us who all feel the same.

Even more overwhelming, we do our first school placement in 3 weeks! It's definitely going to be a bit like being tossed in the deep end, but I think once I get in to it I'm going to really enjoy it.

Not too much crafty progress this week. I made one of my bunnies for my friend's baby, Jasper, who turned one this week. His mum loved it, so hopefully he will too.

I've also been working on a scarf I started about three years ago; I'd finished all the knitting, but the last step is to drop specific stitches so that it opens out into a wrap, and it's taking forever to unravel them all!

Last up, I'm cutting out all the bits for A La Mode. I'm mostly sticking to the prints/placement shown on the pattern, but with a few minor changes as I really love the paisleys.

Day One

Just a quick post to say that I survived my first day of proper employment. Mostly just organisational stuff today, as well as ordering new equipment for the lab, and making a few phone calls regarding stuff.... Hopefully can delve into the actual lab work tomorrow...fingers crossed it all works!
