Port-de-France and a Little Progress

Despite a few initial hiccups with the first block, I did eventually get this quilt pieced. Unfortunately the colours don't lend themselves well to photographs, especially in the autumn light....

Summer wind is basted up and in the machine...with a little help from Bella of course (we only just fit on the loungeroom floor).

And all three of my fur-babies are enjoying the sunshine streaming through the front door, even though it's not that warm out. Bella is at the top, Jack in the middle, and Millie (who has a really bad cold at the moment) is at the bottom.

Thunderstruck

After a hot and humid week (93% humidity yesterday!), Melbourne was hit with a huge thunderstorm late yesterday. Getting home from the city was an adventure as I waded through shin-deep, fast-flowing water, and in a long white skirt no less!

Unfortunately my dog Millie isn't so fond of loud noises, and this is what was left of the laundry door when I got home!

No stitching this week due to the heat, but I'm back in the kitchen today. First up is a zucchini slice, using home-grown zucchini, onion and some herbs (thyme and oregano).

Then a chocolate caramel tart for a family dinner I'm going to tomorrow (still in progress). And I'm hoping to do a bit more bread experimentation, and try out ciabatta bread. I'll make the starter today and bake the bread tomorrow. If it works out ok, some should head to dinner along with the tart.

Simply Abundant

I was excited to arrive home yesterday to find my order of Simple Abundance had finally arrived...

...my excitement was short-lived when I went to put my dogs outside and found that one or both had been very unwell. I realised earlier that I've never really introduced my dogs; Jack (left) and Millie (right), both Jack Russell x Mini Foxies, aged 11 and 9 respectively. Try keeping these two still for a photo!

Jack appeared to be the unwell individual and was taken to the vet for injections etc., and sent to bed minus dinner. We separated them overnight, and unfortunately woke to find Millie had been unwell during the night. Back to the vet!

So now we have special "upset tummy" food, pink goop for their tummies mixed in with the food, electrolyte solution, antibiotics for Jack (he appears unwell while Millie seems unfased), and some lotion for the rash on Milile's tummy (which she has had on and off since she was a puppy).

Not quite the relaxing start to the weekend I was looking for! Though the weather has really bought the flowers out.

BOM2 and a Jelly Girl

The second block of the FQS Mystery BOM took a while to get here, but I've finally got the second block together. This block has a lot of pieces! Possibly a little wonky too, that seems to happen when flying geese are involved no matter how careful I am, but I like it anyway.

I also put together the top for Jelly Girl; that was a lot of triangles! Went together fairly easily, but was made life a little difficult getting all those points to match! Probably won't start quilting this for a few weeks, as my neck/back has been playing up again and spending hours at the sewing machine doesn't help.

It was a little windy outside when I took the photo, so when the quilt blew back a little, you can see my lovely dog Millie to the right, eating grass as usual!
