Coquette Cot Quilt Again

One charm pack, a little white fabric (minus the disaster of running out half way), and a little backing and we have a cot quilt for this weekends market.

Very easy to make; just cut each charm in half, sash (mine are 2.5"), then add border (mine is a bit over 3"). And I used the backing offcuts for binding.

Coquette Cot Quilt

Melbourne turned on its best impression of a wet spring day today, so sewing it is!

One charm pack of Coquette by Chez Moi and a little white fabric and I have a cot quilt for Boutique/Mathilda's Market coming up at the end of November.

Had a minor panic when I realised the two bolts of white Moda Bella Solids weren't the same colour despite being the same colour code; I had to dig through my scrap box to find enough for the borders otherwise they would have been a slightly different white to the sashing.

Now she just needs to be quilted!

Verna

Everyone needs a little Verna in their life; this fabric is absolutely gorgeous!

Despite already having quite a few quilts on my to-do list, there was no way I was passing up this line. I'm using it for a full sized Wild Thing; I loved the mini version so much I wished I'd made a bigger one, so this is my chance. However, it will be a touch smaller than the pattern as I am excluding the inner border.

I've got a gorgeous deep pink for the border, a lovely swirly pink for the backing, and a cute stripe for the binding. I purchased mine from Quilt This!; they currently have this line on sale for anyone interested. And they included a little card with my parcel with the comment "such exquisite choices-just spectacular colourways!'. I'm a little chuffed :-)

For more info on Verna and its designer Kate Spain, check out her blog The Drawing Board.

Picnic Time

The Picnic quilt top is all put together; it's only little so it'll be good just to hang on the back of the couch for those times when your feet get a little chilly. And yes, its sunny here in Melbourne today.

Finally got my camera to play nice; these are nectarine blossoms:

The chaos that is my vegie patch; herbs across the front and right sides. Cauliflower and carrots back left, silverbeet and spinach in the middle (plus one huge bok choy plant), broad beans across the back, broccoli hiding behind the rosemary bush. Snow peas climbing up the back fence. I've planted some seeds today for spring planting...where they will go is a mystery at the moment.

And this is what happens when you leave your potato crop in the cupboard...back into the garden they go!
And...this is post 99, which means the next one is the big 100! It's also a year this month since I started the blog...time sure does fly!

Craft and Quilt Fair Wrap-Up

The craft and quilt fair finally made it to Melbourne, and I spent a lovely Saturday afternoon browsing the many stalls looking for inspiration. I was quite suprised to find a greater range than at the AQC earlier in the year, and many stores I hadn't come across before. The only downside I found was that a lot of the charm packs, layer cakes and jelly rolls were not only more expensive than previously (layer cakes were up to $77!), many had been over-handled and were looking a bit tatty...

I set myself a budget for the day, and I think I did pretty well! I essentially avoided buying any precuts given I'll be in the US in a couple of months...

I picked up a Fig Tree Quilts pattern book with lovely quilts based on Patisserie Turnovers, as well as two Schnibbles patterns from Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. I've already got plans for one of these! (sorry about the flash, its a cold winters evening)
Some Alexander Henry fat quarters; Starling in both pink and white:

A couple of Saffron Craig pieces:

A handfull of fat quarters from a new range I'd not heard of before:

And a Simple Abundance charm pack...can't wait to be able to get more fabric from this range!

I also spotted quite a few fabrics I'll be on the look out for when I hit the US later in the year, including Aster Manor and Mill House Inn! Still looking for suggestions on where to shop, particularly around LA and NY :-)

Oh, and some new baby news; my friend at work had a gorgeous baby boy, Jasper on Tuesday!

Another present finished!

After a bit of fiddling around yesterday with different combinations of fabric, I finally whipped up a cushion cover as a Christmas gift. I used 9 Swell charm squares, with a small white border to make it the appropriate size.

For the backing I used fabric left over from the back of the Crabapple quilt as a bit of a contrast.

I'm pretty pleased with it; it's only the second cover I've ever made and fits more snugly than the one I made a few years ago. Just hope the recipient likes it; otherwise I'm more than happy to keep it!

Spring has Sprung!

3 days into spring, and it's certainly noticeable! All around the garden, there are little signs that the weather is warming up, and summer is approaching. It's nice to finally have some colour in the yard!

First, the ranunculus (I think...):

The nectarine tree I planted two winters ago; the quince is sprouting also, as are the peach and apricot:

Even my potatoes!

The cyclamens in their shady spot (notice the weeds!):

And some general garden colour:

Unfortunately, along with all the lovely flowers comes the increase in sneezing and general snuffiliness (is that even a word?)...

While I had the camera plugged in, I thought I'd better post a proper picture of the quilt that I gave my supervisor last week. This is the final product:

The quilt was made with two packs of Shangri-La charm packs, using the disappearing 9 patch method, which I initially discovered here. All I did was add a border to finish it off a little.
