CORRUGATED DISTRESS STAINS

The technique for this fortnight uses gesso, a deeply corrugated card and Ranger Distress Stains.  When you use gesso first on a background, the colours that you apply after will be affected because of the different absorption properties of gesso compared to a plain card background.  For this reason, I prefer to use gesso on only parts of a background so you can get a great contrast effect with the colours that you use on top as some will be on gesso and some will be on untreated card.  Love how easy the Distress Stains are to use for this technique.  A water spritz bottle will help to spread the Distress Stain on the card too, especially as this particular card that I'm using for the background is so heavily corrugated with very deep channels.  Also received my Dina Wakley "All the girls" stamps and love how they stamp onto coloured scrapbook paper.

"Contemplation"... (Rusty Hinge and Picked Rasberry)

"Strong"... (Peacock Feathers and Gathered Twigs.  Also used some of the
Ice Resin Enamels on both the card on the right hand side as well
as coating the brad with it - looks great!)

"Beauty is not caused"... (Faded Jeans and Walnut Stain - notice how the
Faded Jeans has turned a lavender colour when it goes over the gesso.)

"Nest Builder"... (Evergreen bough & small amount of Walnut Stain)

These ones below are from the previous class "Glue Scribble Distress".
This one's my favourite!!!

"Chop Chop"...

"If you wait"...

"Educated Weed"...

MICRO BEADS!!!

Micro Beads are those little tiny glass or plastic hole-less beads that have been around for a long time and are making a come-back as nail decoration!!!   Check out Pinterest and put in Micro Beads and see all the nail designs.  I've never had nails that are long enough for nail polish, let alone micro beads so alas, all my micro beading is done on paper.  There's a few different ways to use these as an embellishment on atc's and cards.  Below are some of my samples from my upcoming Technique Class using micro beads.  I use Glossy Accents (Dimensional Magic) to adhere my micro beads.

"The Invader"... (for this one I've used corrugated card
as my base - love how the beads go in the
little funnels)

"Naughty"...

"What we see"... (Yes, it's pink!!!)

"What we see" - close-up so you can see the dimension.  I've actually
covered a chipboard square frame with the micro beads for this one.

"Observe"... (another one with corrugated card - an old atc from
my corrugated card class)

"Flighty"...

"Fly"... (same Dragonfly stamp but on fabric this time - also
 from a previous class)

"Let's pretend"... (micro beads over a stamped image to
create a design)

More samples to follow...

Glue Backgrounds & more Corrugated Card

Glue Backgrounds is this fortnight's technique. What a great way to add texture and of course if you paint it after with Golden Paints, the colours are fantastic!!! I've only got two samples to show to start with as I left another 2 at work and haven't scanned them. That will come in the next week or so. Something a bit different with these two, I normally mount my small images onto chipboard for extra height to the cards but I didn't want to take away from the texture of the background so I cut a window and the image is underneath. Nice for a change!

"Sooner or later"...

"Ballet dancers"...

Below are the last few of the Corrugated Card atc's from the last class.

"Observe"... (love the look of the little microbeads in the valleys on the corrugated card!)

"Balance"..."Automaton"...

"Repose"...

That's it until I get some more done. I know the classroom is going to be HOT, HOT, HOT tomorrow with all the heat guns going while we cook the glue! ;-)

Corrugated Card & Faux Leather atc's

The technique for this fortnight is corrugated card. Love how versatile and grungey this stuff is and how great it can be for masculine atc's or cards. We have it at Scraptivate in 12" x 12" sheets in both the kraft colour and white.

"Desire"... (I've used microbeads in the little channels of the corrugated card for this one)

"Smitten"... (This one has the edges and ridges embossed with silver embossing powder)

"Temptation"... (Just thought you might like to see a pic of my hubby.....lol)

"Voyeur"... (Self explanatory! Card painted with gesso, burnt umber light and silver)

The atc's below are from the last class I taught - Faux Leather.

"Vision"...

"Flagrant"... (This one is almost identical to the one from the previous post but something I did differently with this class was show the girls how to put chipboard under the tape to create the depth. In this case, the chipboard corners from Collections.)

"Disobedient"... (Another similar one to last post though with the little squares that come from the same pack of chipboard corners...waste not, want not!)

"Contracted"... (A chipboard keyhole also from Collections wonderful chipboard products.)

More samples from the Corrugated card class in the next post.
