Saturday Showcase - Stampers Anonymous Floral Outlines Stamp

Hello fellow Junkies. It's Teri with TerisMailbox here, sharing a product for The Funkie Junkie Boutique. As soon as Tim released The Floral Outlines stamp, I was smitten. Today I am sharing six different cards, all using the Floral Outlines Stamp.

I have a video here documenting the process.

I'll run through photos of the six cards and link the products below each one.

This is the easiest technique. Simply use your ink pads to ink up the various colors on the leaves and blooms, spritz with water and stamp on Distress Watercolor paper. Lightly spritz a second time and stamp in another area. Splatter the ink on the background, choose a sentiment and attach to an A2 cardbase.

Random Quotes CMS182

This card started with ink smooshing on Distress Watercolor Paper using Bundled Sage Distress Ink. Stamp the floral image with Black Archival ink and watercolor the floral images to add color depth.

Use the ledger stamp to add texture to the background using The Peeled Paint Mini Archival Ink Pad. Stamp the sentiment with Peeled Paint and mount on an A2 cardbase.

Ledger Stamp CMS241

Here is a different take on watercolor stamping, smooshing and water coloring. Use the Distress Ink pads as in the first example to ink the stamp up and spritz with water and stamp onto Distress Watercolor Paper. Spray water over the image and lit the inks wick. Once dry, watercolor the images with Distress Inks (colors listed below). Ink smoosh the background with Shaded Lilac Distress Ink.

Stamp the sentiment and add to an A2 card base. A little black bling adds a fun touch.

I switched over to Alcohol Inks for this card. After stamping the Floral Images on a heavy Vellum using Jet Black Archival Ink, I laid the piece on my glass mat and added Mushroom Alcohol Ink and worked it around the blooms as well as I could.

I used several warm color Alcohol Inks from my stash as well as Moss Alcohol Ink to paint the floral images. The alcohol and the inks did make the image run slightly. Next time, I'll try to paint on the reverse side to preserve the stamp outlines. Stamp the sentiment and add to an A2 cardbase.

Miscellaneous Alcohol Inks from my stash

Here is another simple card. After ink smooshing and drying the background, Stamp the sentiment and the floral image with Archival Ink.

Mount on an A2 card base and you are good to go.

Life Quotes Stamp CMS227

This card is all stamping and had so much texture, I decided not to add a sentiment. This cards starts with another stamped image similar to the first card. I did spritz more water and let the stamp sit on the Watercolor paper so it spread a little.

I ink smooshed around the image and dried the piece. Using the Ledger Stamp, I added texture to the background. I also added ink to the edges for additional depth.

I hope I've inspired you to try these techniques!

Saturday Showcase - Eileen Hull Designs 'Fabulous Fall' Pocket Notebook

Hi everyone and welcome to another Saturday Showcase, the Design Team's chance to share tutorials and products available from The Funkie Junkie Boutique with you. Our latest challenge is called Fabulous Fall - my Design Team project for this one is an Eileen Hull Designs Pocket Notebook featuring a Prima Marketing Finnabair moulded piece and an Autumnal floral bundle altered with Ranger Alcohol Ink.

With a number of techniques and products being used to create this Fall Pocket Notebook I've put together a tutorial to show you how to recreate it, so here goes!

************

Start with the cover - I've shown in previous posts on my blog how to use the Pocket Notebook die cut pieces to create a cover with a flexible spine (see HERE if you've missed it). Cut away the spine pieces from the covers, place one of the spines in the centre separated from the covers by about 1/4 inch each side, and stick together with adhesive backed tape. I then covered the outside of the cover with cotton calico fabric, painting over it with White Gesso and Apricot Acrylic Paint from Dina Wakley Media. To darken the edges try blending them with Watering Can Archival Ink from Wendy Vecchi.

You'll see by clicking on the photo below to enlarge it that I've punched two extra holes in the centre of the spine so that there are three holes at the top, middle and bottom. To add age to the cover spritz over with water and brush on diluted Umber Acrylic Paint. By letting it dry a little and dabbing off the excess you get this watermarked look.

To finish the cover stick patterned paper of your choice onto the inside and re-punch the holes through the fabric and paper layers.

Now for the embellishments; I love using Ranger Alcohol Inks to alter embellishments as they will work on pretty much any surface, dry fast and add a lot of colour with just a drop of ink. First up these adorable silver acorn charms were given a warm brown glow by adding a little Latte Alcohol Ink.

Next a small sprig of Tim Holtz Bouquet Findings needed just a little Lemonade Alcohol Ink to make it pop with a beautiful yellow-orange hue.

Tim Holtz Beaded Berries were transformed for Fall by applying Cranberry and Shell Pink Alcohol Inks to the tips. With a little Espresso Alcohol Ink on the stems they were ready to bend into shape.

These Antique Bronze Leaf Charms are incredibly detailed - after being given a coat of White Gesso a little Lettuce Alcohol Ink was added to make them more lifelike.

A much larger Bronze Leaf Embellishment needed to contrast with the vibrant Fall colours used for the rest of the floral bundle. Again, White Gesso was applied, followed by Gunmetal Mixative Alcohol Ink.

Now for the moulding; I pushed air drying clay into one side of the Prima Marketing Finnabair Kingsbury Medallion, ensuring the surface was smoothed over to make it flat and remove any excess clay. Linda now stocks the new tubs of Prima Marketing Redesign Air Dry Modeling Material which will be ideal for this. You don't always need to use the whole of a design to get a dramatic impact.

Whilst wet turn out the moulded piece onto a stamping block (or similar) and add a little wet glue to the upturned surface.

Flip the stamping block over onto the front cover to apply the moulded piece to it - as everything is still wet at this stage there's time to wiggle it all into the desired position. I left the clay to air dry as required and waited for the colour to change to a crisper white.

Once dry it's time to start adding the altered embellishments. I glued a piece of muslin next to the moulded piece to disguise the unfinished edges and added the large leaf to the top; you'll see from the photo below that you can shape the leaf easily by bending it with your fingers. Carry on adding the other bits and pieces that you've coloured into an arrangement you're happy with.

Creating the signatures inside is easy as Eileen Hull's Pocket Notebook die cuts the pages as well as the covers. Fold your choice of papers in half, lay the folded edge along the blank side of the die and cut! I chose to use tea stained old scrapbook papers and copier paper to coordinate with the cover.

Use a sharp tool to stab a hole into the centre of each set of signatures. I chose a coordinating colour of jute string to secure them in place. Start by threading the string from one of the centre holes on the outside of the spine through to the inside and through the corresponding hole in the signature. Then take the string to the top of the signature and push the string through one of the top holes in the spine.

Now thread the string back through the centre hole in the spine to the middle of the signature before pushing it through one of the holes in the bottom of the spine.

The photo below shows where the string has gone through the spine, into the signature, back out to the top, back through the middle, down to the bottom and out. Finish each one by tying the string off in the centre.

When finished you'll end up with three sets of knotted jute string on the outside of the spine. These can be embellished further with beads and charms, but I chose to tie them together and untwist the jute to create a tassle.

When finished you'll have a Fall themed Pocket Notebook with three signatures inside. Here are some close ups;

Thanks for visiting to catch today's Saturday Showcase tutorial - I hope you've found it helpful. There's still plenty of time to enter the current Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog challenge 'Fabulous Fall' to be in with the chance of being a Guest Designer here. We look forward to seeing your amazing creations.

Monday ShowCase - Ranger Adirondack Alcohol Inks & Tim Holtz Yupo Paper

Happy Monday to you all! The Saturday Showcase slipped to Monday and I am happy to share with you some inspiration using the Ranger Adirondack Alcohol Inks using the Tim Holtz Yupo Paper.

I spent quite a few hours playing with the alcohol inks and then cutting some of the backgrounds out to use on a few projects.

I started with the Translucent Yupo Paper and the reds, greens, yellows and blending solution.

For any of my backgrounds I like to first layer on a light alcohol ink. To do this I put three drops of the color first on the felt and then add a few drops of alcohol blending solution. I smear this up and drown across the entire surface. After I cover the surface, if I want to remove the streaks I just dab across the surface to let the blending solution bubble up the color.

Once that is done, I let the surface dry. Next for the background I was trying to create with the drops and circles I start by dripping directly from the bottles onto the background. I drip as single color in multiple places across the surface. While it is wet I will drip blending solution over the circles I have created. I then like to let them dry before I add the next set of circles. I add them by dripping more circles and more blending solution.

If I don't like where the colors are blending I will bring in large amounts of the blending solution and let it spread to lighten up the background. You can see I did that on this background after I added the green as it was getting muddy.

I let the green dry and came back with yellow dots. The more blending solution on the background that is not dry will help expand the circles. After it dried I added the red dots back into the surface.

My next attempt was still on the translucent background with greens, blues and yellows.

On this one I added much more blending solution and didn't let the colors dry in between adding more colors. I also used the heat gun to push the colors around the background.

You lose the hard edges and it becomes much more free form without the circles of color. After it dried I came back and added some more circles by dripping the colors directly onto the dry background.

I then pulled out the white Yupo cardstock and created a much softer and blurrier background by adding many drips of blending solution and using the heat gun to push the colors around.

You can see the blending solution and inks pooling off the edge of the paper.

When it dried you can see how it pooled colors around the edges and how the white cardstock helps keep a much richer color.

I then added some drips of blending solution.

I finished it with adding a few drops of blending solution to a clean felt pad and dabbing across the surface to get tiny bubbles across the surface.

For my last sheet I used White Yupo Cardstock and decided to use the felt applicator for all my colors.

I covered the background with the yellow alcohol ink first by adding a few drops of yellow ink mixed with a few drops of the blending solution.

I then started adding a hint of brown ink with a few drops of blending solution and dabbed it on the right side of the paper.

I repeated with a fresh piece of felt with a blue alcohol ink mixed with the blending solution. I didn't re-apply and ink and kept dabbing all the way over to the left.

I then added a bit more brown. I left drying time between each color and replaced my felt each time I put a new coat of color.

I also at the end just used a clean applicator with just blending solution. Most of all the important thing with the alcohol inks is to just try out new ideas. The medium is fun and forgiving!

I didn't finish off this piece, I just put it on a card front to finish later.

I did die cut a bunch of butterflies and leaves from the other backgrounds:

I quickly put together a tag and a card using the butterflies:

I purposely left the background of the cards white and simple to highlight the beauty of the alcohol inks.

I also cut out a dragonfly from the leftover backgrounds.

The yupo paper allows the alcohol inks to shine and the alcohol inks come in a variety of colors to allow you to pick your color combinations. The Funkie Junkie Boutique has the papers and inks available to purchase. There is still time to play in the Inspired By Challenge!
