Saturday Showcase - Ranger Dina Wakley Media Chipboard Shapes & Stampers Anonymous - Rubber Stamp Faded Type

Happy Saturday! Suzz here to share a showcase featuring the Ranger Dina Wakley Media Chipboard Shapes - Sprigs and a smattering of the Stampers Anonymous Faded Type stamps.

I pulled out all of the sprigs and played with them in a variety of ways, including using them as masks when adding the color to the chipboard.

To create this card:

  • Stamp the background with Faded Type Stamp inked up with Iced Spruce and spritz with water. Repeat randomly over the background.
  • The chipboard was gessoed. spritzed with Antique Linen distress spray and then sponged with Iced Spruce. I finished it off with an embossed surface of clear embossing powder.
  • The seam binding was inked up with Iced Spruce.
  • The rest was layered with Prima flowers, leaves, and branches.

This was a happy accident as I dyed the old lace and wanted more of a fray to the edges so I cut off one edge. They were lying there and I rolled one up and liked how it looked. I decided to use them as flowers.

After I left it to sit for a day, I thought it would pop better as Iced Spruce flowers. I created a new inky edge and used them to create new blue tinted flowers.

To create this card:

  • Paint the chipboard with white gesso. Ink up with Antique Linen and Iced Spruce Distress Ink.
  • Heat set the chipboard.
  • Stamp the faded text stamp using Versamark Watermark Ink.  Heat emboss with brown embossing powder.
  • For the background:  Use the burlap layering stencil and apply texture paste.  Spray with a mix of Distress Spray Vintage Photo, Iced Spruce and Mica Spray Antique Bronze.
  • Spray lace with Antique Bronze and Walnut Stain Distress Ink Sprays.
  • Stamp sentiment and heat emboss with brown embossing powder.

I had a variety of backgrounds created from the spray and the chipboard masking the background.

 Different color sprays.

And then cutting out the section to create a tag.

Then using a mix of the background layered with the chipboard and a simple sentiment to create a quick card.

I even re-used my flowers that were replaced with the blue blossoms in the next card.

The tag had a mix of the background with an overlay of stamped text which was embossed with a soft ivory embossing powder.

Finally something completely different with the chipboard being stamped, clear embossed and gilded with some glittery mica flakes.

This was a shimmery fun wintry scene in unexpected gold, orange, yellow hues.

I hope this has you thinking of how to use the chipboard and stamps in a variety of ways.

Saturday Showcase - AALL & Create Blossomed Numbers

Hi there.  It is Cec here to bring you the Saturday Showcase this week.  When you have been checking out all the wonderful new products that are coming to The Funkie Junkie Boutique you will notice that the shop will be carrying some of the AALL & Create line of stamps so since I have a couple of them I thought I would show you what a treat you are in for.  I have made a canvas using the Blossomed Numbers stamp set.

The AALL & Create stamps are clear stamps made of photopolymer and this one is an A4 size - that is one big stamp 8.27" × 11.69" - but it has two distinct images so the first thing I did was cut them apart to make them a little easier to use.

I would recommend that you condition your AALL & Create stamps before you use them for the first time.  I did not do that with one of the pieces and didn't get as great an image as I wanted so I did the smaller section (the one I used for this project) and was much happier with the result. I will follow up with the other image.

Also, in case you are more used to using red rubber stamps and Archival Ink like I was, don't panic when you notice that the Archival Ink tends to really stain the clear stamp but it doesn't harm it.  Just make sure you have some stamp cleaner available to clean your stamps.

OK, so now that the technical stuff is out of the way, here is how to create this canvas:

  • Stamp the smaller image on a piece of good tissue paper (I used Memento Tuxedo Black to ink it this time)

  • Crumple up some inexpensive (a.k.a. cheap) tissue (Dollarama), flatten it back out and glue to the canvas
  • Tear the tissue around the image and glue on next
  • Use Texture Paste (Ranger) through a Checkered Dots stencil (Dylusions) to add texture on opposite corners
  • Cover the canvas top and sides with White Gesso (Dina Wakley)

  • Paint the canvas completely with Lime Acrylic Paint (Dina Wakley)
  • Add a few second generation stamp markings using Jet Black Archival Ink (Ranger)
  • and a number stamp from the Ultimate Grunge set (Tim Holtz)
  • Use a scruffy paint brush to add Evergreen and Peacock Acrylic Paint (Dina Wakley) randomly
  • Add more marks with Peat Moss Archival Ink (Wendy Vecchi) and a Bubbles stencil (Tim Holtz)

  • Use Jet Black Archival Ink to stamp the flower portion of the stamp twice onto card stock

  • Ink both flower images with Scattered Straw, Wild Honey and Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink (Tim Holtz)
  • Go back and add some Fired Brick DI (not shown in process photo)
  • Fussy cut both flowers

  • Using a Micron Pigma Pen and the Dylusions stencil, draw some circles on card stock and give them some markings
  • Ink the circles with Scattered Straw and Wild Honey DI and then fussy cut them
  • Ink some card stock with Forest Moss DI and then cut numbers using an Alphanumeric Die Set (Tim Holtz)
  • Use some Wild Honey DI to ink a piece of drywall mesh tape
  • Create computer-generated text for a sentiment and ink the pieces with Wild Honey and Fired Brick DI
  • Add some lengths of raffia on top of the stem area of the stamped image
  • Add both flowers popping each of them up with some dimensional foam
If you want to play with these great stamps run over to the shop and get your pre-order in and you should be ready to go soon since February is almost over.

Saturday Showcase - Tim Holtz Botanical 3D Texture Fades Embossing Folder

Hi everyone and welcome! Jenny here with this week's Saturday Showcase where I'm shining a spotlight on one of Tim Holtz new 3D embossing folders from Sizzix. Since this 'Botanical' Texture Fades Embossing Folder arrived I have become a touch obsessed, embossing everything from card to fabric! So today I'm involving you in this obsession with two ideas for using it with different medias. And a heads up, to take a closer look at any of these pictures just click on them.

Tim Holtz 3D Embossing Botanical Sizzix Faux Plaster Tutorial

I began by cutting a piece of 8.5 x 11 Tim Holtz Mixed Media Heavystock into four quarters - the reason for using this Heavystock is that it has been designed to be very forgiving when you apply wet media and I find it doesn't warp the way some regular cardstock can.

For my first experiment I spread an uneven layer of Ranger Opaque Texture Paste over the first quarter of Heavystock, allowing it to air dry (which doesn't take long, even here in the UK).

When dry I blended Antique Linen Distress Oxide Ink over the whole surface, spritzed with water, allowed it to dribble and run by moving the Heavystock around, then dried it with my heat tool. Do bear in mind you can stop at any stage of this process if you like the effects you've achieved!

Now I ran the altered Heavystock through my Big Shot with the Botanical Texture Fades 3D Embossing Folder using my Multipurpose Platform and one of my Cutting Plates - the instructions for getting the correct 'sandwich' are included in the packaging and on Sizzix own website.

You'll notice I de-bossed my surface as I wanted to achieve a look of old decorative plaster. Again, you could leave it at this stage but I couldn't! choosing instead to brayer Picket Fence Distress Paint over the surface lightly.

Finally I sprayed the whole piece with a little mist of water and used a paintbrush to dribble Vintage Photo Distress Spray Stain down into the de-bossed grooves. To encourage it to 'run' you can add more water until you get the effect you want. I allowed it to air dry again, though you could use a heat tool to speed up this part of the process. You'll notice as it dries it takes on more of a pale rose hue as the inks and water react with the Texture Paste.

So now my altered Heavystock was ready for use in a finished project. I tore it down the middle, effectively leaving me with two halves for two cards, though you could just use the whole piece as a stand alone background as it wouldn't need much in the way of embellishing.

You can see I took some Tim Holtz Paper Stash to create a simple background, adding stitching and Design Tape with some torn Worn Wallpaper before layering on my embossed card. It then only took some ephemera (the Ideaology Layers collections, Collector and Botanical are a great source for these) a couple of metal Adornments and a sentiment from the Small Talk Occasions set to complete it. Here are some close ups so you can see how the embossed Heavystock adds so much detail to the finished card;

Tim Holtz 3D Embossing Botanical Sizzix Distress Oxide Paint Tutorial

Now here's a second a second, much shorter experiment which has equally wonderful results. Again I started with a quarter of the Mixed Media Heavystock. This time I dipped it repeatedly into a blend of Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide Ink and water to get that mottled effect we are all familiar with.

Having run it through my Big Shot with the Botanical Texture Fades 3D Embossing Folder (embossing rather than de-bossing this time) I used my brayer to apply a layer of Pumice Stone Distress Paint over the raised areas.

After the paint had dried I blended Walnut Stain Distress Ink into the Heavystock to add some 'age' and contrast to the embossed areas. And that was it, ready for use! I love the darker look to this one and decided to create a male themed card with it.

Now I must admit this card became a little more 'involved' than the last, though to keep it simple you could equally just use Tim Holtz Paper Stash and various Layers as before.

I did use Paper Stash for the background as before but this time used my brayer to add light layers of Distress Paint over before applying an uneven layer of Texture Paste through a Layering Stencil. As it had a look of verdigris I did add one more layer of media to my torn piece of altered Heavystock (I can't ever leave well enough alone!) brayering the smallest amount of Tumbled Glass Distress Paint over the raised areas.

The central panel looks complicated but was achieved easily by stamping one of the images from the Tim Holtz 'Theories' stamp set onto card dipped in Antique Linen Distress Oxide Ink and water. I stamped the image for a second time onto spare card, cut around the man and balloon, and dipped them in the leftover paints from the background to get the verdigris look again (use shades of brown and grey and end with light dabs of the Tumbled Glass). The altered metal Adornments and a sentiment from the Small Talk Snarky set completed the card. Here are the final close ups so you can see more of that embossed Heavystock;

That's it for today's Saturday Showcase tutorials using Tim Holtz Botanical 3D Texture Fades Embossing Folder! I hope you've enjoyed seeing just a couple of the possibilities for using it - there are plenty more as you play with different colours, inks and paints, and of course two more designs too! And now that The Funkie Junkie Boutique has the new Tim Holtz 3D Impresslits in stock there are even more 3D shapes to alter.

Have fun and get creative!
