La locura del sonido

Hay discos que no se escuchan: se atraviesan. Amused to Death es uno de ellos. No entra de golpe ni busca seducir con estribillos inmediatos; se instala despacio, como una conversación incómoda que empieza en voz baja y termina mirándote fijamente a los ojos. Roger Waters no quería hacer un álbum más después de Pink Floyd. Quería dejar constancia de algo que le dolía, que le indignaba y que, en el fondo, le daba miedo: la forma en que la humanidad aprende a mirar la violencia como entretenimiento.

Desde el primer segundo, con el sonido del televisor encendiéndose y apagándose, Waters nos coloca en el centro de su tesis: la guerra, el poder y la tragedia convertidas en espectáculo. El título, Amused to Death (“Divertidos hasta morir”), tomado del ensayo de Neil Postman, no es una metáfora elegante; es una acusación directa. Nos estamos riendo, distrayendo, consumiendo imágenes mientras el mundo se desangra en segundo plano.

Seville Guitar Legends Days 3-5, 1991

Guitar Legends fue un concierto que se llevó a cabo durante cinco noches, del 15 al 19 de octubre de 1991, en Sevilla , España , con el objetivo de posicionar la ciudad como un destino de entretenimiento para atraer el apoyo de la Expo '92 a partir del próximo mes de abril.

El evento contó con 27 guitarristas de primer nivel, incluidos Brian May , BB King , George Benson , Joe Walsh , Keith Richards , Les Paul , Robbie Robertson , Robert Cray , Roger Waters , Albert Collins , Steve Vai y Joe Satriani . Los vocalistas incluyeron a Rickie Lee Jones , Bob Dylan y Joe Cocker .

El acto fue concebido por el empresario y productor británico Tony Hollingsworth, quien inicialmente acordó realizar el concierto como un contrato de coproducción con la televisión estatal española RTVE . Pero RTVE se retiró el día en que se debía firmar el contrato cuando la directora general (y directora de cine) Pilar Miro Romero dejó la empresa.

Posteriormente, los organizadores de la Expo '92 asumieron el proyecto para ayudar a superar el problema de que Sevilla estaba siendo vista simplemente como un proyecto de ingeniería civil. Proporcionaron la mitad del presupuesto de $ 7.2 millones, y Hollingsworth recaudó el resto de las preventas de televisión. RTVE compró los derechos españoles, pero pagó proporcionando tiempo en televisión y radio para espacios publicitarios. Luego se vendieron a Coca-Cola .

Se emitieron cinco programas de 90 minutos y un documental de una hora. Cuarenta y cinco países mostraron al menos un espectáculo en vivo. Posteriormente, las emisoras de 105 países emitieron uno o más programas.

Amused to Death es el tercer álbum solista de Roger Waters. El disco fue editado en 1992 y no fue seguido de una gira, por lo que las primeras representaciones en vivo de estas canciones fueron en la gira In the Flesh (1999-2002). El disco fue un éxito en su crítica y es considerado por muchos como el mejor disco de Roger Waters como solista. The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking (Los pros y contras de hacer autoestop) es un álbum conceptual de Roger Waters. Algunos músicos notables que asistieron a Waters durante la grabación del álbum fueron el director Michael Kamen, el actor Jack Palance, el saxofonista David Sanborn y el guitarrista Eric Clapton. El álbum fue certificado como Disco de Oro por la RIAA en abril de 1995.
El concepto, según lo previsto por Waters en 1977, giraba en torno a los pensamientos dispersos de un hombre durante un viaje por carretera a través de algún lugar de Europa Central. Se centra en su crisis de mediana edad, y en cómo sueña con cometer adulterio con una autoestopista que recoge durante el viaje. En el camino se enfrenta también a otros miedos y paranoias. Todo se desarrolla en tiempo real entre las 4:30:18 AM y las 5:12 AM de un día sin concretar.
En julio de 1977, Waters les presentó a sus compañeros de Pink Floyd algunas demos musicales que había grabado. Se trataba de dos proyectos: Bricks in the Wall y The Pros and Cons... Después de un largo debate, decidieron que preferían el concepto de Bricks in the Wall, a pesar de que su mánager en ese momento, Steve O'Rourke, pensara que The Pros and Cons... era mejor.

Roger Waters: Us + Them "The Film"

La película presenta canciones de los álbumes de Pink Floyd y el último álbum de Waters, Is This the Life We Really Want?, la película fue dirigida por Waters y Sean Evans.
El lanzamiento en el cine de la película fue acompañado por un documental exclusivo titulado "A Fleeting Glimpse", que capturaba imágenes del ensayo de la banda, cuando realizaba pruebas de sonido antes de los espectáculos y después de las actuaciones. Antes de su lanzamiento oficial, la película se proyectó el 7 de septiembre de 2019 en el Festival de Cine de Venecia . La película se estrenó en los cines de todo el mundo los días 2 y 6 de octubre de 2019.
