En 1979, Mike Oldfield era ya un músico consagrado gracias al éxito de Tubular Bells, Hergest Ridge y Ommadawn. Sin embargo, la presión de la fama y la timidez que siempre le acompañó lo mantenían alejado de los escenarios. Su mundo estaba en el estudio, entre cintas y múltiples instrumentos que solo él sabía coordinar como piezas de un puzle cósmico. Pero Virgin Records, su discográfica, quería verle salir a la carretera y demostrar en directo aquella magia de laboratorio. Y de ese pulso nació “Exposed”, un álbum en vivo que no fue simplemente un concierto: fue una especie de catarsis personal y artística.

El reto era enorme: trasladar al escenario la complejidad orquestal de sus discos, plagados de capas de guitarras, teclados, percusiones y voces. Oldfield reunió para la ocasión una formación impresionante con músicos de primera línea, como los percusionistas Morris Pert y Pierre Moerlen, el guitarrista Phil Beer, el teclista Peter Lemer y las cantantes Maddy Prior (de Steeleye Span) y Sally Oldfield, entre muchos otros. Era casi una pequeña orquesta de rock progresivo contemporáneo, con la que Mike podía dar vida a sus monumentales obras.

El álbum recoge grabaciones de esa gira europea de 1979. El título, Exposed, no fue casual: Oldfield se sentía desnudo, expuesto, obligado a salir de su refugio y mostrar su música sin la protección del estudio. Ese matiz emocional atraviesa todo el disco.

GRABACIÓN FM DE 1980 MIENTRAS ESTABA EN LA GIRA DISCOVERY 

Publicado en junio de 1984, el noveno álbum de estudio de Mike Oldfield, Discovery, se convertiría en uno de los más célebres. El disco alcanzó el número 1 en las listas de álbumes de toda Europa, pero sólo obtuvo el puesto 15 en la lista de álbumes británica. En la segunda mitad de 1984, Oldfield y su banda se embarcaron en una gira por Europa para promocionar el álbum. El 8 de septiembre actuaron en el Teatro Tenda Bussoladomani, en Viareggio, Italia, donde ofrecieron un impresionante espectáculo que fue grabado para transmisión FM en toda Italia y sincronizado en vivo en los EE. UU.

MIKE OLDFIELD TUBULAR BELLS II LIVE

Tubular Bells II es el decimoquinto álbum de Mike Oldfield, lanzado en 1992. El álbum - el primero con su nueva discografía- se concibió como una secuela del disco Tubular Bells de 1973. A este le siguió Tubular Bells III en 1998.

El álbum se estrenó con un concierto en directo en el Castillo de Edimburgo el 4 de septiembre de 1992 con John Gordon Smith como Maestro de Ceremonias. El estreno en Norteamérica fue en el Carnegie Hall en Nueva York el 1 de marzo de 1993, a lo que le siguió una gira mundial (en España, el espectáculo pasó por Vigo, en agosto de 1993, y se utilizaron gaitas galegas en lugar de escocesas en la interpretación del tema Tatoo). Tras esto, Oldfield no dio ningún concierto más hasta la presentación de Tubular Bells III en 1998 y su "Then & Now Tour" en 1999.
