Favorite Paris Moments
About 10 minutes after moving Haleigh in to her first Paris apartment, I officially lost my tourist status. That was seven years and three apartments ago.
My days and nights in Paris do not remotely resemble those of someone on vacation…waiting for the WiFi (cable guy) to show up, shopping for housewares instead of fashion, cooking dinner at home, meeting native Parisian friends at obscure cafes no toursist has ever heard of, and most recently assisting Haleigh on professional photo and video shoots complete with models, make-up artists and the chance to meet and work with people who are also not on holiday.
This is a life in Paris I have come to love far more that my early days as a tourist.
And then there are those rare afternoons when the chill of a steady Winter drizzle makes it seem as if all of Paris is hudled inside cafes or thier apartments or hotel rooms…making it seem as if I could have some small part of Paris all to myslef…
and then it happens…
something rather magical about having the back room at Astier de Villatte all to yourself…
or the courtyard at Palais Royal…
Only to be out done by the luxury of having the Allée all to youself…
or the undivided attention of the staff at Serge Lutens as they indulge you in exploring every last scent on your quest to find your new signature fragrance (to be revealed later)…
It’s afternoons like these that also present the chance to wander the side streets in your own neighborhood, discovering what may eventually knock the macaron off its pastel pastry pedestal…
More on this sweet spot in my next post…
not only are the pastries over the top, but it will set your head spinning with kitchen décor ideas.

January 30, 2015 at 8:16 am (10 years ago)Having a permanent place in Paris is quite different. We rent an apartment on Ile St. Louis so it feels more like we live there. I’ve been there on several ugly weather days but there were still crowds. Always bring back something from Astier de Villatte. This year or next, I want to have Carla Coulson do my photo portrait in the lobby of a fabulous hotel. I don’t speak a word of French but I still love going to Paris.
