I don't really know much about this band, other than they had a single produced by Radio Birdman screamer, Rob Younger. I found this disc for just one dollar lying there amongst the musty, soiled racks of Ashwood's (a large second-hand dealer here in Sydney), one of those shrug moments of ah-what-the-hell. The Tellers appear to have been an Aussie garage band in the early 90s, possibly from Brisbane. The music is mostly grungey and discontented indie garage rock with plenty of punk crossover, a few hints of rockabilly and maybe some prog. Mostly it's buzzsaw guitars but a bit of sax emerges in a few places. Whenever the hoary male vocalist sings down low it reminds me of that guy from Crash Test Dummies, when he sings up in pitch it's quite like the Sydney band The Trilobites. Reasonably decent if truth be told, in fact this is not a bad album, could have been quite radio-friendly amongst the Big Rock FM radio crowd. Criticism? Well, perhaps a tad samey but that's not such a big deal as within the genre it changes direction enough times to keep me listening until the end. I do wonder what happened to this band. ~batfink
