Jello Biafra fronts Ministry
First release 1989
This was the first of many musical projects jello biafra would involve himself with after the break up of the original Dead Kennedys

Lard is one of several sometime-side projects helmed by the Ministry duo of Al Jourgensen (guitar) and Paul Barker (bass) -- in this case, notably fronted by legendary Dead Kennedys singer Jello Biafra, along with, initially, drummer Jeff Ward. Founded in 1988, Lard was first brought to the public's attention via the following year's The Power of Lard EP, and even more so by 1990's inaugural full-length The Last Temptation of Reid. Both featured a unique blend of industrial and punk, matched with Biafra's typically political lyrics; but the band's already sporadic touring and recording schedule (this was, after all, a side project) was curtailed even further after the shocking suicide of drummer Ward in 1993. Lard wasn't heard from again until 1997's critically acclaimed Pure Chewing Satisfaction LP, and then again in 2000, via the '70s Rock Must Die EP -- both recorded with Ministry mainstay Bill Rieflin on drums. Jourgensen has since stated that Lard still has one final album in them, but just when this will be recorded, and whether Barker will be involved following his 2004 exit from Ministry, remains to be seen. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia

Where would we be without Jello and Lard. Well, we'd be in the same place, but we'd have no Jello. And no Lard. And that would not be a happy place. Oh At least we've got Lard to explain it to us. ~Anon

This is the most American music whether you like it or not. 2 legends, one band, what could possibly go wrong… except for society ...~Anon

Ministry - In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up (Live) - 1990

Ministry - In Case You Didn't Feel Like
Showing Up (Live)
Soundboard @HQvbr
Out of print

$29.97 @ the 'Zon

By the time of A Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Taste, Ministry had amassed enough of an arsenal of gear and a hardcore coterie of fans to make the band's shows literally explosive affairs in some cases. Also released as an accompanying video, which shows more than a few audience members seemingly uncaring about potential dismemberment, In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up is only six songs long, but delivers big time for each of them. The weird atmosphere of glowering goth and avante thrash metal that combined with the more direct dance floor antics of Alain Jourgensen, Paul Barker, and company makes for a particularly potent combination live. Jourgensen's hoarsely roared, wracked vocals, given just enough electronic distortion to really cause some blood to flow, suit the various reinterpretations of The Land of Rape and Honey and A Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Taste material, three songs from each. For the most part the live takes closely resemble the studio cuts aside from length; while the galloping "Deity" sticks to the original's three-minute headcrush, "So What" turns into an extended vamp, arguably going on a little too long but generally having fun with its own horror-movie slasher theatrics, as well as kicking off with a slow burn, just creepy enough start. The whooshing swoops and siren noises that kick off "Burning Inside" show how well Ministry can rework material for maximum impact as needed. The end of the disc provides the real highlights, with absolutely brutal versions of "Thieves" and a nervous, intense "Stigmata" polishing things off; Jourgensen's profane rant against anything and everything at the end in particular reaches some sort of weird apotheosis of unalloyed hatred. Occasional comments to the crowd along the lines of, "Looks like we got a little frisky bunch here!" show that for all the musical and lyrical violence, Ministry knew how to keep a sense of humor intact -- something more than a few followers forgot. ~All Music

Ministry - Mississippi Nights Festival
St. Louis, MO.

February 15, 1990
Soundboard @flac
Liberated Bootleg

*Incomplete concert recorded live at the Mississippi Nights, St. Louis, February 15, 1990.
This recording seemed to be mis-labeled as the Royal Grove Ballroom, Omaha, February 13, 1990 show due to an error of Al, who misidentified the city during the concert.

Recorded from the soundboard, "Breathe" fades in, "Burning Inside" fades out (due to the 45-minute tape flip on the original master tape, missing the last 2 minutes of the song), and "The Land Of Rape And Honey" fades out (due to the time limit of the CD).

"Thieves" contains an impromptu intro rendition of the Z.Z. Top track "La Grange".
"Stainless Steel Providers" is incorrectly listed as "Stainless Steel Pounders" on the back insert.

This unofficial CD is the longest and best source for this concert, but "The Land Of Rape And Honey" is only available in full on the Warzone unofficial LP.

On Thanksgiving...

I give thanks to all my friends, for a roof over my head and food to eat. There are millions of people who don't have these things. I do what I can for those that need help.

This song which I have posted before STILL sums up my feelings about some of the people and happenings in the world TODAY.

My feelings about racism, hatred, bigots, mindless violence, war, police brutality, and the direction of the world at large...

Let's go to the edge of disaster
Push the pedal and go a little faster
Let's slam into a wall at ramming speed
Let's go to the edge of a mountain
Jump off and lets start countin'
Hit the ground and tell me if it bleeds

Let's go insane
Let's go insane

Let's go to the edge of reality
Let's go for total insanity
Let's go for a government based on greed
Let's go for the final attack
Let's go for a war in Iraq
Let's go for starting up World War III

Let's go insane
Let's go insane
Make my reservation

Let's go for the ultimate crime
Let's go for the end of time
Let's go for an ethnic killing spree
Let's go for the final battle
Let's slaughter them all like cattle
Let's go to our graves in victory

Let's go insane
Let's go insane

Let's go!.....insane

Stop the HATE!!
