Italy is the land of romance, charming men who enchant ladies with there flair and personality. We stand here on a country road and look towards the castle of Bracciano. The castle towers high above a small village and some flower fields. An ideal opportunity to share some Italian love stories linked to this mystery castle.
For the first story we go 4 centuries back in time, in to the life of the beautiful princess called Isabella. She married her 13 year old prince at the age of 11. He was very ambitious and lived a life on the battlefields to expand his kingdom. She became the beautiful and romantic lady of the castle who had many affairs. She invited her lovers into a red bedroom and after a steaming night, she requested them to leave via a secret passage behind a curtain. Isabella made them promise not to tell anyone of their passionate affair. They did so and left via the dark passage where they fell into a deep hole full of sharp blades. Their bodies were shred into pieces. After many victims her husband became aware and strangled Isabella.
Let us move forward to the year 2006. A famous American bride came to Rome for a wedding dress fitting made by Armani. The daughter of Armani was good friends with the princess currently owning the Bracciano castle and came to the fitting session. Together they visited the castle and the bride, Katie Holmes, decided to have her wedding with Tom Cruise in this castle. The castle was offered for free to the couple but the total cost for the party and decorations is estimated to 20 million dollars according to the locals. Tom Cruise requested all people who lived in the village to stay in their homes and to close the windows so that they couldn't take pictures and see the guests. We were told that each household received a compensation of 2.000 dollar for one day of privacy. Also this marriage ended in a divorce but luckily not as dramatic as with the cruel Isabella. Did they have their wedding night in the red bedroom?
The third love story is the most unrealistic one but the best. An English girl who we encountered at the castle was on holiday in Greece where she met a charming Italian man from the Bracciano region. On the first evening the man fell hopelessly in love with the English girl and asked her to marry him. On the first evening they met!!! She said no and thought he was crazy, they saw each other regularly in the next three years and got engaged quickly. They are now happily married for 23 years, have two kids and live near the castle. The true Italian love story of the Bracciano castle. They didn't sleep in the red bedroom.

Het kasteel torent hoog boven het dorp en de bloemenvelden uit. Een ideale plaats om enkele Italiaanse liefdesverhalen gerelateerd aan dit kasteel met jullie te delen.
Voor het eerste verhaal gaan we 4 eeuwen terug in de tijd, naar het leven van de beeldschone prinses Isabella. Zij trouwde op jonge leeftijd van 11 jaar met een 13 jarige prins. Na een gezellige avond nodigde ze haar minnaars uit in de rode slaapkamer voor een liefdesnacht. Na de belofte hier met niemand over te praten verzocht zij hen de kamer te verlaten via een geheime doorgang achter een gordijn. Ze vertrokken via de donkere gang en vielen in een diepe put vol met vlijmscherpe zwaarden. Hun lichamen werden in stukken gereten. Na vele slachtoffers ontdekte haar man de ware toedracht en wurgde Isabella.
Laat ons verder gaan naar het jaar 2006. Een beroemde Amerikaanse bruid ging naar Rome voor het passen van haar bruidsjurk gemaakt door Armani. De dochter van Armani was een goede vriendin van de prinses die nu het Bracciano kasteel bezit. Samen bezochten ze het kasteel, en de bruid Katie Holmes, besloot hier met Tom Cruise te trouwen. Het kasteel werd gratis aangeboden maar de totale kost voor het feest en decoraties werd door de lokale bevolking geschat op 20 miljoen dollar. Tom Cruise verzocht alle bewoners van het dorp binnen te blijven en hun ramen te bedekken, zo kon men geen foto's nemen en de gasten niet zien. Men vertelde ons dat ieder huishouden hiervoor een vergoeding kreeg van 2.000 dollar. Een mooie prijs van 1 dag privacy. Ook dit huwelijk liep op de klippen maar eindigde gelukkig niet in een familiedrama zoals bij de wrede Isabella. Brachten zij hun huwelijksnacht door in de rode kamer?
Het derde liefdesverhaal is het meest onrealistische maar ook het beste. Een Engels meisje dat we aan het kasteel hebben ontmoet ging op vakantie in Griekenland waar ze een charmante Italiaanse man uit de Bracciano regio ontmoette. Op de eerste avond werd hij hopeloos verliefd en vroeg haar ten huwelijk. Op de eerste avond dat ze elkaar zagen!!! Zij weigerde en dacht dat hij een gek was. Toch zagen ze elkaar regelmatig in de komende drie jaar en ze verloofden zich snel. Ze zijn nu reeds 23 jaar gelukkig getrouwd, hebben twee kinderen en wonen dicht bij het kasteel. Dit is het echte Italiaanse liefdesverhaal van het Bracciano kasteel. Zij sliepen niet in de rode slaapkamer..
