Coming up roses in late Autumn

the beautiful Ophelia for which I have searched for years, having it as a climber and found two last year.  They are growing in large pots.

Iceberg in the late Autumn rain.

Chicago peace....my roses are having some of their best flowering this season.

Better late than never.

It has not been the best year for roses till now.

Nearly gone and falling fast.

The Letter V - Scatterdays.

The letter   V   with apologies for lack of original photos but data disk took a holiday and spoiled another post also........so had to resort to mr google images.
with
COLOR
The purple violet is the state flower of Illinois
I have always loved violets even if I have just pulled them out as weeds recently.  They are good ground cover till I want the bulbs to shine through.

POINTY
File:Hoeffler V.svgthe letter V is somewhat pointy is we look at the bottom.

WEATHER

weather vane seems a good link for weather.
and
VIBRANT QUILT

Mothers Day

I heard on the radio that it began in the 1770's in England as Mothering Sunday, and a decade later in the USA.
Being the cat's mother I did not really score this year.  I have not allowed her to look at many catalogs as being a CAT she can buy from a CATalog.  But I could claim that she had a part in the online purchase of a big box of discount special bulbs from the lovely tesselaar's discounts for end of season.
I also spent a whole $2 in K Mart for a white chrysanthemum.  Mine are all yellow.

I was going to make this a Mother's day post and show my Mum and some others who Mothered me over the years but my data drive has decided to depart again.

Not happy Jan!
These pots were a ridiculously low price on clearance..I had the three above and got three more sets for $7 a set.

I want to go back and get more....normally the small pot would be that price..

I have planted bulbs and then violas to cheer things up till the bulbs come out......must go and buy some more seedlings.

May in Melbourne

Is usually cold and maybe wet and we have had really cold but now seem to be having days of 25C and I am sitting here with no heating and only a cami and pants on.
Very odd.
Has been a week of running around, two luncheon dates and a fix the computer week ...even get the tablet working week.......Yeah!!
The highlight of the week for Moggie was meeting her new friend Wiggles.  They eyed off through the window, preferably behind the curtain  while Wiggles was tied to the porch rail post.
She then came inside on her lead......she is about 6 weeks of age and adorable and her name is appropriate.  She would love to have raced over to sniff Moggie but Madam retreated behind a hanging quilt on a stand and gradually peeped out more and more and became more and more brave.  Not a hint of a hiss.
I brought out the tumbling Koala that giggles and that almost had the two of them face to face.  Well done for my child's first close up of a puppy.

And on Monday there had been this wonderful baby to cuddle.

He was so good and so adorable.

There was also a sweet little girl who was with Nana and so I played with her as well.

And at home it is Autumn in all its glory.  The glory vine lives up to its name despite my taming it a lot this year as I feared getting tangled up in it and having a fall in the garden.

The is the view over the shed and you can actually see the shed door this year.

And the mini archway I put in for my wisteria has some vines trailing down it as well.  There are a couple of smaller vines at that end of the display area.

I adore the different shades in the leaves, from lemon to purple.

The arch from the other side.

Thursday was see the Optometrist about cataracts and yes they are there and could be removed but since I can still read street names and it is only small stuff in low light that is driving me nuts I am having drops and a return visit in a few weeks.
Would be nice to have a year without surgery.

After the eyes we visited the chemist, checked out a new coffee shop that felt a bit too raw and on route to being hip for us two ladies who are not all that into hip culture.  I then went to sit and sew and finally found a home for Mum's green ware and painting books.  I have a nice selection of plates painted by my Mother

I then went and had hair attended to as today I went and had the terrible ten year license photo taken, so decided I would be well advised to be prepared....if I have to look at it for all that time!!

Full of virtue I went and paid accounts and found some lovely bargain pots and did some grocery shopping.
Came home duly ready to fall on the sofa and flake in front of TV.
I finally downloaded some songs I wanted from I Tunes, last used in 2006!  I had looked and looked for a couple of the songs sung on 'The Voice Australia' that I had particularly enjoyed, so it has been a busy and useful week.
The night I ironed 30 pillowslips I celebrated by buying more discount bulbs and they arrived today, so I would be making small forays out to plant a few at a time over the next week.

In some places these would be a sign of Spring

Here in Victoria, Australia...they are more a sign of get busy and get the rest of your bulbs planted....
I am still tempted to make one more purchase of discounted bulbs even though all my others have been planted, some since late Feb which is when I usually start thinking bulbs.

But good old jonquils which I thought had been all dug up out of the rose bed. just bloom again to say amid  the cold cold days that winter is worth enduring for Spring is coming.

I do not seem to have yellow ones and must buy some one day.  Where I grew up, there had been jonquils planted on two sloped of a hill that was a little like a gentle V and my Mother used to pick them and Dad would take them to the market along with vegetables.  He later grew dutch Iris and I planted two more packs of them yesterday.  5 of one colour and 10 in the other bag.  I planted them with the main show of Dutch Iris under the Magnolia trees in my front side garden.  Well to be truthful, my young gardening man, helping me while my normal handyman is away, was the one to plant them.  I put in some tulips and hyacinths.
And a few more daffodils went in.  Lovely unusual doubles....and these are what are tempting me to buy more of along with some things that would look lovely in  pots.  Be tempted at Tesselaars

I shall confess if I do give in to further buying efforts.

It is Autumn with more color each day.

I love to see the color come on the flowering apricot tree with a Mt Fuji turning to color behind it.

To the left and behind the autumn leaves are two magnolias.

I have just planted, with the help of a young man, some Blue Dutch Iris to add to those already in that front side bed.

This is the view from the road with a rather unusual acacia on the verge and the weeping Mulberry which has it skirt trimmed is about too begin losing its leaves.

Closer view of the lovely color in the flowering apricot leaves.  It has better leaves than flowers although they are quite pretty.

Behind it is a prunus Elvins.  Also coloring.  Much nicer when in flower.

Now to the glory vine at the back which colors more each day and provides the view from my kitchen window.

It rambles over the shed and reaches up into the apple tree.

The wisteria archway has a new passenger for the Autumn
