Deep-Sea Creatures in Souvenir Sheets FDC from TAIWAN
Issue Date:12th DEC'2012(12-12-12)
Details:
To increase understanding about deep sea creatures, Chunghwa Post has
issued two souvenir sheets featuring animals that live in the mesopelagic
zone of waters near Taiwan. Their designs follow:
Souvenir Sheet A: includes four stamps
1. Eurypharynx pelecanoides (NT$10): This mesopelagic and bathyalpelagic fish lives at depths of 500-3,000 meters. Despite its huge mouth, the fish mostly preys on small crustaceans due to its tiny teeth and stomach that can’t be over-stretched.
2. Argyropelecus aculeatus (NT$12): Commonly known as the Atlantic silver hatchetfish, it lives at depths of 200-1,000 meters. Its flat silver body resembles a mirror, reflecting the colors of its surroundings to camouflage itself. The light organs along its belly also help it conceal itself by producing light that hides its own shadow.
3. Bufoceratias shaoi (NT$10): This species lives at depths of 500-1,200 meters. Its body is globular in shape but slightly flatter on the sides. The tip of its first dorsal fin has evolved to become a light organ called the illicium or esca, which contains many symbiotic bioluminescent bacteria. The esca can emit light to lure curious prey—hence its Chinese nickname: “lantern fish.”
4. Regalecus glesne (NT$12): This mesopelagic fish is found at depths ranging from the surface to 1,000 meters. There have been occasional sightings of it in waters off the coast of Taiwan. The world’s longest bony fish, it can grow up to 11 meters. It is nicknamed the “earthquake fish” in Taiwan because it is often spotted by fishermen after earthquakes.
The marginal inscription features Leptocephalus (upper left corner), Ctenophora (lower right corner) and Bobtail squid (lower left corner).

Ancient Chinese Painting “Three Friends and a Hundred Birds” Souvenir sheets FDC from TAIWAN
FDC Name:Ancient Chinese Painting “Three Friends and a Hundred Birds”
Issue Date:22nd NOV'2012
Details:
Issue Date:22nd NOV'2012
Details:
To promote appreciation of the beauty of ancient Chinese art, Chunghwa Post is releasing two souvenir sheets on the painting “Three Friends and a Hundred Birds” by the Ming Dynasty painter Pien Wen-chin from the National Palace Museum collection. The first souvenir sheet features three stamps, each highlighting a portion of the original masterpiece, with denominations of NT$5, NT$10, and NT$12. The second sheet features the full scroll with a denomination of NT$70.The designs of the souvenir sheets follow:
Pien Wen-chin was an important bird-and-flower painter at the early Ming Dynasty court. His work blends the meticulous and exuberantly colored style of the great Northern Song master Huang Ch’üan with the Southern Song court painting tradition. The highly decorative painting features nearly 100 birds perched on bamboo, as well as pine and plum blossom branches. Court paintings of its era often carry symbolic meanings to denote auspiciousness. The “Three Friends of the Winter” refer to pine, bamboo, and plum blossom. Among them, plum blossom symbolizes integrity for its cold hardiness; bamboo is a homonym of a Chinese character that means “blessing,” and pine symbolizes longevity. Though the painting depicts 97 birds, it includes “a hundred birds” in the title to indicate the multitude of birds being featured. Furthermore, the number 100 is regarded as auspicious in Chinese. In consideration of the fact that it was painted for the court, it may also signify “the hundred birds pay homage to the phoenix,” an expression of great reverence. Resembling a spot in a mountain forest where 100 birds have gathered, the entire scroll is fascinating.
For the first time ever in this Post, the souvenir sheet featuring the entire scroll is printed on silk paper. The elegant silk further helps to shine a spotlight on the fine strokes of this masterpiece. A pictorial and a stamp folio featuring both souvenir sheets will also be released on the issuing date of the stamps. The cover of the pictorial is made of hard golden paper with red and black foil stamping, and the front features a fabric paper printed with colorful flowers and birds. The folio is with a classical golden paper cutting to gracefully show up the souvenir sheet printed on silk. Both designs are extremely elegant. The set of stamps are designed by Delta Design Corporation and printed by Cartor Security Printing (France) in color offset.Source-Chunghwa Post.
Remark:Thanks Ching Chen for sending this extra ordinary silk paper souvenir sheet FDC.

In recent years, bee colonies have been vanishing mysteriously all over the world. Because bees play an important role in pollinating flowering plants, their disappearance could lead to food shortages. What’s more, at a time when the environment and climate is changing drastically, conservation of biodiversity deserves urgent attention. And because bees play the roles of pollinators, predators, and parasitoids, they directly and indirectly promote biodiversity.
In order to raise understanding about bees, Chunghwa Post will issue a souvenir sheet which comprises six stamps, each featuring a bee species of Taiwan. The stamps are hexagonally shaped. The designs follow:
1. Phimenes flavopictus (NT$5): This predatory wasp can be found in foothills and low-elevation mountains. Its black body has yellow markings, giving it coloring that resembles that of a yellow and black striped tiger. Females build their mud nests in places such as tree trunks and cliff-face crevices. It is also called the “tiger-striped potter wasp” in Chinese.
2. Apis mellifera (NT$10): Commonly known as the western honey bee, this pollinator is distributed in warm low elevation areas. Most western honey bees have a yellowish brown chest. The species’ worker bees have specialized pollen baskets, which can be found on the tibia of their hind legs.
3. Xanthopimpla pedator (NT$5): The range of this parasitic wasp stretches from the plains to hills and low-elevation mountains. The main hosts of this wasp are the larvae and pupae of Lepidoptera. The species was once used to control she-oak pests.
4. Xylocopa tranquebarorum (NT$10): This pollinator is found in low-elevation plains and forests. Its entire body is black except for a few grey fuzzy hairs on its chest. Its wings have a purple, copper sheen to them. Females build their nests by boring holes into dead bamboo.
5. Vespa ducalis (NT$5): This stinging wasp is found in low- and mid-elevation forests. The two golden yellow rings on its abdomen are its most salient feature. Its last four abdominal segments are black.
6. Apis cerana (NT$10): Commonly known as the eastern honey bee, this pollinator is found in low- and mid-elevation mountain areas. Most live in the wild. In its appearance, it greatly resembles the western honey bee. It has alternating yellow and black stripes on its abdomen.

170th Anniversary of Hong Kong Postal Service FDC from HONGKONG
FDC Name:170th Anniversary of Hong Kong Postal Service
Issue date:25th AUG'2011
Details:
The first post office in Hong Kong was opened on 25 August 1841, heralding the beginning of the local postal service. In response to subsequent socio-economic developments, our postal service has moved with the times, ever expanding and innovating to meet public demand. The year 2011 marks the 170th anniversary of postal services in Hong Kong. Hongkong Post issues a stamp sheetlet to commemorate the occasion.
Established in 1841, we are one of the oldest government departments in Hong Kong. For more than a century and a half, we have carried on the fine tradition of providing an efficient and reliable postal service at a reasonable price, earning recognition both at home and abroad. In 1995, we converted to a trading fund operation. We have succeeded in building a good corporate image by promoting a quality service culture, living up to our purpose statement of "Linking People, Delivering Business".
The stamp sheetlet is divided into three parts. The buildings on the left and in the middle depict the old General Post Office set up in 1911 and the current General Post Office opened since 1976 respectively, with a shift of colour in the background from brownish red to light green, to echo the old red and new green posting boxes in the foreground, suggesting the passage of time. On the right, the globe surrounded by service brands of Hongkong Post and the "hummingbird" logo symbolises innovation and improvement in our service delivery to the world. The red Victorian Pillar-type posting box with the longest history (cast between 1837 and 1901) on the stamp is juxtaposed with its green modern version. The superimposed postmarks of 1841 and 2011 serve as a reminder of the 170 years of postal service in Hong Kong.
Looking ahead, Hongkong Post will keep abreast of the times and continue to develop an array of diversified products and services for the public and corporate clients. We will strive to play an active role in facilitating global communication and in promoting industrial and business activities to create new business opportunities.(Source-Hongkong Post)

Taiwan Butterflies Minitature sheet FDC from TAIWAN
FDC Name:Taiwan Butterflies
Issue date:8th APR'2011
Details:
Issue date:8th APR'2011
Details:
Because of its varied geography and its location straddling the tropics and subtropics, Taiwan has a great number of butterflies with rich species diversity. Euploea butterflies are among the few butterflies that can overwinter as adults in Taiwan’s mountain valleys. Before the arrival of winter, Euploea butterflies fly south to warmer “purple butterfly valleys.” When spring arrives, they fly back north. The sight of these migrating butterflies passing the Linnei section of National Freeway No.3 is simply breathtaking.
To call public attention to the importance of ecological conservation, Chunghwa Post previously issued a souvenir sheet with four stamps on Taiwan butterflies on June 25, 2009, and it is now following up with another souvenir sheet (Issue of 2011) with four stamps, featuring Euploea butterflies. The souvenir sheet, following the format of its forerunner of 2009, is printed in the shape of a butterfly, with a butterfly-shaped cutout on each stamp. The stamps will be issued on April 8, 2011. The designs follow:
1. Euploea eunice hobsoni (Butler) (NT$5): This butterfly has dark brown forewings with an iridescent blue shimmer. There are some pale blue gray markings on the submarginal areas of each of its wings and at the center of its forewings. The undersides of its wings are paler in color.
2. Euploea sylvester swinhoei Wallace & Moore (NT$5): The upper surfaces of the forewings of this dark brown butterfly have an iridescent blue shimmer near the apex and light blue spots along the outer edges of its cells. The undersides of its wings are paler in color, with white spots in corresponding positions to the light blue spots on the upper surfaces. There are three pale blue gray spots at the center of the underside of its forewings.
3. Euploea tulliolus koxinga Fruhstorfer (NT$12): This dark brown butterfly has iridescent blue forewings. There are rows of white markings in the submarginal areas of the upper surfaces of each of its wings. The undersides of its wings are paler in color, with white markings at the center of its forewings and also in positions that correspond to the white spots on its upper surfaces.
4. Euploea mulciber barsine Fruhstorfer (NT$12): The male has a large violescent patch near the apex of its forewings and male has dark brown wings with some scattered tiny white spots outside of the center cell on the undersides of its wings. The female has slightly lighter brown wings, with white scattered spots near the apex and white streaks on the inner edges of the forewings and the cells of the hind wings.

Issue Date:14th APR'2010.
Details: 12 nos of stamps ,Minitature sheet and 4 FDC was issued by India Post.
Astrological signs represent twelve equal segments or divisions of the zodiac. According to astrology, celestial phenomena reflect or govern human activity on the principle of "as above, so below", so that the twelve signs are held to represent twelve basic personality types or characteristic modes of expression. There are sun signs and moon signs, which both depend on your date of birth.
In Western and Indian astrology, the twelve signs are associated with constellations, while in Chinese astrology there is no connection with constellations, as it is simply the line of the equator that is divided into twelve equal segments.
In Western and Asian astrology, the emphasis is on space, and the movement of the sun, moon and planets in the sky through each of the zodiac signs. In Chinese astrology, by contrast, the emphasis is on time, with the zodiac operating on cycles of years, months, and hours of the day. A common feature of all three traditions however, is the significance of the ascendant or rising sign, namely the zodiac sign that is rising (due to the rotation of the earth) on the eastern horizon at the moment of a person's birth.More

FDC Name: Beijing - Hangzhou Grand Canal.
Issue date:26th September 2009.
Details:The Beijing - Hangzhou Grand Canal, stretching 1,794 kilometers from Beijing in the north to Hangzhou in the south, is the longest manmade water course in the world. It passes through Beijing and Tianjin Municipalities and the provinces of Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang, connecting the Haihe, Huanghe (Yellow), Huaihe, Changjiang (Yangtze), and Qiantang Rivers. Since its construction, the canal has played an important role in shipping, irrigation, flood control, drainage, and the interflow of commodities, and has promoted cultural exchange as well. The Zhenguosi Pagoda, in the canal's Gaoyou Section, is one of the representatives for the extensive promotion of Buddhist culture. First built in the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907), the pagoda originally stood on the bank of the canal, and when the canal was extended in 1956, a 100-meter-diameter earthen islet was erected to surround and defend the pagoda, making it the only islet-based Buddhist pagoda along the Grand Canal.
