Mail Order Comic Book Crap

Here's an entertaining interview with Kirk Demarais about all those crappy toys and novelties you saw advertised in comic books when you were a kid. Kirk actually went and bought this stuff, and his book Mail-Order Mysteries: Real Stuff from Old Comic Book Ads! offers informative and entertaining reviews of the merchandise.

Never could afford that Polaris Sub? Read all about in Kirk's book!

Paul Callan Burns Illustrations

Preliminary illustrations by Paul Callan Burns. I like the look of these. I couldn't find much on the artist on the internet. He lived from 1910 to 1990, spent some time in New Jersey, and was the author of The Portrait Painter's Problem Book.

I'm guessing that is Columbus, Magellan, and Sir Francis Drake. They must be looking at that globe and thinking about all that sweet rubber they were going to plunder from somewhere.
