The Brave and the Bold #28 features the first appearance of the Justice League of America. Almost as important, it features an awesome cover by Mike Sekowsky and Murphy Anderson of the JLA fighting Starro the Conqueror (also his/her first appearance).
I ran across this knee-slapper by Murphy Anderson in Plop! #5 (June 1974). I'm a little surprised DC would do this, even in fun, to their flagship character. This is something I would have expected to see in Mad magazine.
Murphy Anderson (b. 1926) began his career as a comic book artist in 1944 working for Fiction House. Beginning in the 1950's, Anderson began his long association with DC Comics. He contributed heavily to the company's science fiction titles, and Anderson's work inking Curt Swan's pencils on various Superman titles is the stuff of comic book legend.
