DC Who's Who

In 1985-1986, DC published a series of comics called Who's Who: the Definitive Directory of the DC Universe. Each page had bios of characters, list of powers, etc. There was also new art commissioned for the series, often by artists associated with the characters. Here's a few examples from some of my favorite artists.

Dinosaur Island, by Bill Wray and Greg Theakston.

The Golden Gladiator, by Russ Heath.

Morgaine Le Fey, by Brian Bolland.

Nightmaster, by Charles Vess.

Charles Vess: the Art of Magic Making

Charles Vess's presentation at Virginia Commonwealth University, "The Art of Magic Making," is available for viewing on youtube here.

Charles is a wonderful talent, and has consistently turned out work of the highest quality. His newest book is The Cats of Tanglewood Forest, written by Charles De Lint and illustrated by Vess.

Charles Vess and Spiderman

Some images of Spiderman by Charles Vess. Two prints from First Team Press (1988) and the cover to Web of Spiderman #1 (April 1985). I never cared much for Spiderman's black costume, but it looked good when Vess drew it.
