"Keeper of the Plains" Weekend in B&W, Creative Exchange, Mellow Yellow Monday

The Keeper Of  The Plains is a 44 foot tall steel sculpture standing at the point where the Big and the Little Arkansas rivers join together in downtown Wichita, Kansas. The impressive sculpture was created by Wichitan and Native American artist Blackbear Bosin, an internationally recognized artist.  This icon of Wichita was erected in May 1974 to celebrate the United States Bicentennial.  Several years ago it was renovated and placed on a 30 foot pedestal  making it tower over 70 feet above the river.  It is surrounded by a Ring of Fire at night--quite impressive.

The Weekend In B&W- Tower of Stone

                                      Man's tower rises
                              High into vast cloudless sky
                                   Reaching for unknown

This building is located in San Antonio, Texas and was build in 1931.  It was the first hospital to be a skyscraper.  When viewing the building from a certain angle, it creates the illusion that it is a 2 dimensional building.  I wasn't quite at the right spot when I took the top photo to get the 2D look, but I thought it was quite beautiful architecture.   The photo below is not mine, but it does show you the 2D illusion when you are looking at the building from the right angle.

Weekend in B&W - Planes

The original shot--a dark shadow in a gray, gray sky.
I spiced it up with a little highlighting from Picasa 3
for the first photo.
Below are even more applications from Picasa.
I am totally amazed that I can sit in front of my computer and do all these awesome things to my original photos!  Three cheers for technology!!!!

Insignificant
A dot in the universe
Yet we ARE of worth
