Create A Classic Vintage Table Setting!

Top Vintage Table Linen Set by Lovintage Finds
Bottom Left  Set of Four Small Vintage Bowl by All Things White
Bottom Middle  Etched Gazelle Drinking Glasses, Set of 6 by bonnbonn
Bottom Right  Trio of Danish Modern Wood Turned Candlesticks by Monki Vintage

I love the idea of pairing different styles together and have been thinking lately of a funky vintage modern decor combo.  Setting the table is often something that gets neglected in my day to day routine, but one that comes alive when friends are coming over.  I like to mix and match things and pull together a layered look through the different styles.  Here, I've created a little imaginary table setting that combines the classic look of vintage linens with the sleek lines of Danish modern.  Hmmm...now I just have to imagine what kind of food and drinks I'd be serving to compliment my table decor!

Any thoughts?  I think fresh mojitos would look amazing in the gazelle drinking glasses!

We wrapped our January Style Guide challenge on Thursday and we had some absolutely fabulous collections.  I really enjoy seeing how everyone will put their spin on our theme.  This month it was all about New Beginnings and Fresh Starts.

Kathy of LoVintage Finds made this vintage inspired collection, entitled Freshness.  First of all I loved the eye catching color palette of blue and orange. I also loved all her vintage picks but how vintage can also be FRESH and new.

Tomorrow we will announce our Style Guide winner and you won't want to miss it. We received 106 entries and it is never easy making the final decision.  Our winner will also be our featured Guest Pinner on Pinterest in February.  We hope you enjoyed the January Style Guide Challenge and please join us again on February 16th!

I love Helen of Cloth and Ink's collection which is entitled Fresh New Home.  By mixing in home decor elements in red + using both modern and rustic pieces, you see a whole home come together. This Style Guide is a great starting point for refreshing your home decor.  Just add a pop of red or a new piece of art to give your whole house a new look and feel.

An Introduction | Etsy Shop L and M Studio

Not to bring back nightmares of the SATs, but do you know where the word 'porcelain' is derived from?  It comes from old Italian porcellana - which means 'cowrie shell' as porcelain resembles the translucent surface of this shell.  Neato!  The beautiful whiteness of this ceramic material is hard to pass by; it quietly invites you closer to hold + admire.  Meg & Lucie of Etsy shop L and M Studio harness this natural quality of porcelain in their beautiful functional art pieces for the home.  Combining the skills of Meg as a functional potter + Lucie as a sculptor, they "opened L & M Studio in September 2011 to start a collaborative line of porcelain slip cast objects, focusing on containers and houses for living things, designed with the specific needs of the inhabitants in mind."  Any of Meg & Lucie's items with their organic shapes would be a simple joy to live with!  How can you resist?

Summer Cottage Decor | Shopping on Etsy

It's Summer and for lots of us that means we are looking for an escape.  If you can't get away, what about turning your personal space into a little retreat?  It's fun and can easily be done with a little help from Etsy.  For my inspiration I imagined a little cottage, perhaps near a lake or beach. A place where you go to relax and leave work at work.  I chose blue and grays as my basic color palette and brought in some pop's of yellow to liven it up. Where will you escape to when redecorating your home?

An Introduction: Etsy Shop Blisscraft and Brazen

Look around you and count the different ways in which you live with wood in your home.  Wood flooring, trim, kitchen cabinets, dining room tables, serving utensils, chairs, bench, and so on.  We've become so accustomed to wood products in the home that it's easy to forget where this wood comes from.  You probably don't look at your entertainment unit + think of the trees swaying in the wind in the forest from which the wood was harvested.  Which is normal because wood has become such an integral part of our lives, but when you start to think about the origin of each board, you realize there is a larger story behind all your everyday wooden products.  Where did the wood come from and what process did it go through to become that one product that you now use in your home?  Interesting, isn't it?  That's why we love all the nature inspired and wooden products of Rachel + Aaron's Etsy shop Blisscraft and Brazen!  They use salvaged and eco-friendly materials in all their work thus providing us with an intimate link to not only the makers, but the source of the wood.  Rachel + Aaron are passionate about living in harmony with nature + in a way that leaves a small ecological footprint.  You'll feel this richness in their work + smile each time you use one of their handcrafted items in your home.  Now the tough part - deciding which one to buy!

our lemonstring favorites:
linen apron with black twill
linen apron with ruffles and brown twill
child's apron with decorative stitching
linen half apron with brown stitching
linen apron in brown with ivory twill

Wearing an apron when cooking is certainly not a mandatory prerequisite for stepping into the kitchen.  Nor is it required in order to cook a fabulous meal.  But, wearing an apron is a definite game changer.  It can transport you from merely throwing some ingredients in a bowl, mixing it up + calling it good to a mindset that is more about the joy of what cooking has to offer.  The mood changes + the energy shifts - get ready for some serious cookin'!  Erlina of Etsy shop Lemonstring by Erlina understands this relationship between aprons + cooking.   She creates unique handmade aprons using the natural beauty of linen in lovely warm, earthy tones.  The clean lines of her aprons won't clutter your mind as you prepare to enter into that cooking zone - rather you'll feel relaxed + ready to whip together something divine!

Does your cooking routine involve wearing an apron?

Bottom Left Zen Garden Soy Candle by Luminology
Bottom Right Fine Art Floral Fruit Print by Louisest Art

Living in New England, I love experiencing all four seasons.  I'm always grateful for the transitions from one season to the next as I get to appreciate the experience that each brings.  Enter spring, my absolute favorite time of year!  I love the way the air smells, I love to close my eyes at night as I listen to the peepers, + I love watching the buds on trees + bushes come alive.  It stirs within me a feeling of newness + possibility - it's like a delicious piece of chocolate that you want to savor.  As we come out of hibernation + into the longer days of spring, it's the perfect time to think of some fresh interior decorating ideas.

Changing up your room's lighting may not be on the top of your list, but Liga of Filigree Creations makes adding a pop of lighting decor color quite easy.  Her handmade lamp shades can be purchased with or without a wiring kit to fit your needs!  Spring is not only about light colors, but lighter fabrics.  Jillian of Jillian Rene Decor offers us an elegant way to freshen up your room's decor with a handmade cream linen pillow with a floral accent.   Now your coffee table is looking bare, isn't it?  We've got you covered!  Place a lovely candle by Luminology as these soy candles are not only a pleasure to burn, but beautiful to look at.  Plus, you get the bonus of a handcrafted vessel once your candle finishes burning ~nice!  And don't forget those bare walls - nothing works as fast as popping a colorful work of art on the wall for added visual appeal.  I love the colors + shapes in Louise of LouisestArt's archival print.  Welcome the newness of spring with handmade items in a palette that will make you go ~~ah!

Now, close your eyes + let's savor together that feeling of all the good things coming our way this spring!

Jump Into Geometrics!

Top Hand Printed Chevron Linen Pillow  by giardino
Bottom Left Small Bowl with Hand Drawn Bird by aspeerstudio
Bottom Right Ferris Wheel 5x5 Art Block by redtilestudio

The thing I love the most about geometrics is that they're timeless.  Shapes are something we start interacting with at a very young age - remember the game where you fit the square into the square hole?  Or at least when you weren't trying to jam the star in it instead...  Those first impressions stay with us + make living with geometric patterns actually quite comfortable.  You don't have to overwhelm your interior decor with geometrics every which way you turn.  Instead, use them as a focal point to tie together your home's styling.  I've put together 3 picks from some of my favorite Etsy shops to help you get started!

Throw pillows can dramatically transform the look + feel of a room - I imagine it to be a bit like chocolate cake WITH icing!  Right, cake is great on it's own, but so much more when you add the icing.  This hand printed chevron pillow by giardino in grey + tangerine would instantly add dimension to your room.  Adding this small one-of-a-kind red earthenware clay bowl by A. Speer Studio with hand painted details to your bureau top or night stand will bring a sense of calm to any room.  I just love how the geometric shapes are paired with a little bird!  Now, take a look at that bare wall right in front of you.  Prime Real Estate!  Use one, two, or a group of geometric art blocks from Red Tile Studio as an effortless way to decorate any room.  This mother daughter team has an Etsy shop filled with colorful, modern + oh yes, geometric art blocks for you to choose from.

Don't be afraid of geometrics another day - it's time to play 'home decor'!

Tea + Cereal

Top Two Sunny Yellow Porcelain Bowls by Suite One Studio
Bottom Left Blue Celadon Porcelain Cup Set by Maine Kiln Works
Bottom Right Vintage Modern Teapot by all things white

Like many of you, I have my morning routines.  I always begin my day with a cup of herbal tea - lately I've been hooked on Roasted Dandelion Root tea.  It's rich, earthy + a wonderful way to begin the day with a little liver detox!  When I came across theses translucent blue celadon glaze cups by Maine Kiln Works, I suddenly had a desire to elevate my everyday mug of tea into an experience of beauty.  I can almost feel the silky finish and weight of the cup in my hands as I go to take that first sip of hot tea.  My tea drinking ritual, however, would not be complete without a proper teapot.  The clean + simple lines of this vintage modern teapot found in Etsy shop all things white would finish this morning ritual off nicely ...  can you hear the sound of the tea being poured into the porcelain celdon cup?

Now, you might expect me to say that eating cereal is another one of my morning routines, but I hardly ever eat cereal for breakfast.  Cereal is my evening 'go to' snack.  A beautiful vessel is so important no matter what item it is to contain - even cereal deserves luxury.  But really, any excuse to purchase one of Suite One Studio's porcelain pieces works for me!  I think there is something to be said about surrounding oneself + interacting with items of beauty daily - I feel it can completely change your experience of life.

What are your thoughts on beauty?
