My review of Mistaken Identity by K. Dawn Byrd with bonus giveaway!!!

Mistaken IdentityYou heard it right! The winner will have their choice of a tee shirt (if there is one available in the winner's size) or a copy of the e-book. Personally I'd take the book, but if you've already read and enjoyed it, why not go for the tee shirt, right? I'd wear it! Here is a pic of the tee shirt prize...

Oh, and to enter simply post a comment about your dating experience in high school. Did you love it? Hate it? I'll pick a winner when I get at least twelve different entries or by Wednesday, July 6th, whichever comes first.... so tell your friends!

About the book:

Eden Morgan makes a list of six goals to accomplish in order to have the best summer ever. Getting a boyfriend, which is perhaps the most important goal, becomes complicated when she and her best friend, Lexi, fall for the same guy. Since Lexi is popular, gorgeous, and always gets her guy, Eden thinks she doesn't have a chance.

Channing Johnson is everything Eden's ever dreamed of and she can't believe he just moved in next door. When he starts showing interest in her, she's overjoyed...until she sees him out on a date with Lexi. He says Lexi talked him into it to repay her for tutoring him. Lexi says they're in love.

Eden doesn't know who to believe and is forced to choose between her best friend and the guy of her dreams. Nothing is as it seems and no matter who she chooses, someone will get hurt.

My review:

Wow! I loved this story because it brought me back to my high school years and all of the dating drama that went with it. Sometimes I really miss those days. Not! Seriously, this story appealed to me so much that I read it straight through. I couldn't put it down, and because of that it'a making my favorites list for 2011.

Mistaken Identity has the heart-warming feel of an inspirational novel, but with a heap of delicious YA drama from real life situations stacked on top. The romantic elements in the story were a real draw for me. I totally loved the tension between the characters. I was falling in love with the hero right along with her. That's great writing.

I really liked Eden and wanted to see her happy because her heart was so good. She wasn't fake at all, but a genuine person, which is why I think Channing was so intrigued by her. She was a good Christian girl and so typical of the teen girls I know from my church and other places. I loved her family, too. And that two-faced friend of hers, Lexi, was just like my "best" friend that I had in high school. She was always seeing my boyfriends behind my back, too. Grrr... And lying about it to my face. But that's an aside.

Seriously, this novel was swoon-worthy, top-notch fiction. In fact, it's the best YA Inspirational Romance I've read in the past few years, hands down...and I've read a good number of them. If you read the story you'll see what I mean. Your heart will flutter from the tender romance and you'll enjoy every minute. I was so lost in this novel that I felt like I was living the character's life. I forgot about everything else going on around me. What a great escape for the weekend! Now I want to go find a romantic chick flick to watch to keep the yummy mood going. Sigh. Great read. Very inspiring. Perfect beach novel. Great message for teens. All-around fantastic book. Can you tell I loved it?

Mistaken Identity was published by Desert Breeze and was released in June 2011.

New giveaway! Win an all expense paid Florida vacation that includes a Caribbean Cruise to the Bahamas!

Buy one of my books and you just might win a vacation for up to four people!

This vacation prize is worth over a thousand dollars. It includes three days in Fort Lauderdale, then three days on the Caribbean Cruise Line ship to the Bahamas, then ends in Orlando Florida where you can get a pass into one of the theme parks there. This vacation package also includes a free rental car. All you have to do is pay for the gas. Winner will be required to pay a port of entry fee in order to get on the ship. Because it's not possible to include in this prize package (since I don't know who the winner will be or when they will leave, the winner is responsible for that small fee.) Did I mention the hotel rooms are all paid for and so are three meals per day per person? As you can see from the description above, this is a nice vacation package. However, the trip MUST be taken before August 2nd. When you book the cruise prior to that date is entirely up to you. Just book your spot a month before you leave. I have the transfer forms and information and will send it all to the cruise line when a winner is selected. You will get confirmation that the cruise has been transferred to you. So why not enter?

How many people can take this vacation? Up to four people because two separate rooms are paid for and the original deal I made was for four, which includes all meals, too.

What if only two of us want to go? Then you can save the other two spots for a separate vacation that can be either three days and two nights in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico or three days and two nights in Las Vegas.

How can you afford to do this? I purchased the vacation package last August thinking my husband and two kids could go with us (hence the two rooms) but then our household income dropped significantly and we were no longer able to afford the plane tickets to get to Florida from Arizona. But I'd hate to waste a vacation package I'd already purchased, so now I'm offering it to one of you guys.

CONTEST RULES

What do you need to do to enter for a chance to win this vacation? First, to enter even one time you must post a comment. For one entry into the contest no purchase of any kind is required. However, if you want extra entries you can do one or more of the following. You can send a picture of yourself holding one of my books, or forward a copy of the receipt to me if you ordered it online. The cool thing is I have one book that is only $2.99, so that is the best deal you can get. If you have already bought several of my books you need to post a comment saying which ones you bought and when. If you won them or swapped them, then that doesn't count. However, if you have read all of my existing titles (there are a bunch of you out there) you can still get extra entries by pre-ordering Letting Go (the paperback,) or by tweeting and facebooking about the contest. Just make sure to tell me that you've read all of my books and that's why you could only tweet about the contest, or post about it on facebook.

To increase your chances of winning you can do the following...

+ one additional entry for following two of my blog sites (I will post the links below.)
+ one additional entry for tweeting about this contest and sending me a link to your tweet.
+ one additional entry for posting about the contest on facebook.
+ two additional entries for buying any one of my paperbacks and posting a review
+ two additional entries for buying one of my e-books from Desertbreezepublishing.com.
+ one additional entry for buying an e-book from another site (kobo, Amazon, Sony, etc.)
+ one additional entry for pre-ordering Letting Go on Amazon or Barnes and Noble.

So here is a scenario to help you see how this works. Let's say Betty has already purchased two of my paperback books before this contest. She will get one entry for that by either showing me she has the book(s) in a picture or showing me a review she had posted in the past of at least one of my paperback books. Betty also tweeted about the contest and posted it on facebook - that is two more entries. Now she has three. She decided she really wanted to read Never Without Hope anyway so she buys the paperback. This adds two more entries. Then she decides to buy one of my e-books from Amazon, so that is one more entry. Betty also followed my sites listed below. Her total number of entries is seven. Don't worry, I've got a spreadsheet and I will be adding entries as I get them, then putting them all into the list randomizer and having it select a winners name. Oh, and you MUST leave me a way to contact you so I can tell you that you won. I will pick a winner on March 2nd sometime before midnight. Now go spread the word and let me know that you did so I can start filling up the list. Blessings to you all and thank you for supporting me.

Here are my blog addys for you to follow...

Void where prohibited.

 No more entries please!

I need your vote. Which music fits the video trailer best?

If you provide some feedback and help me decide which video should be the one I use for promotion, then I will enter you into a drawing for any book of mine that you want. Yes, that's the deal. ANY book. Now if you have all of my books, I will even stretch it to include any other book I own by another author. So that's it. The winner gets to choose.

All you have to do to enter is watch all three videos (each is about a minute long) and vote on the one that fits the book the best given the pictures and the wording shown. Which creates a feel that really makes you want to read the book? That is what I am looking for. Refer your friends, too, and if they mention that you sent them here to vote, you'll get your name in the drawing again for each friend you refer. I am looking for the most feedback I can get. So if you refer three friends then you get four entries. One for you and three more for friends. Oh, and your friends get entered, too. So go for it! I'll select a winner once I get enough comments that I feel satisfied that the input I am getting will help me choose the best one. Thanks everyone! Oh, and if you REALLY want to read Letting Go, and your name is drawn as the winner, remind me in January and I'll send you a copy of the book the moment I get my author copies. Thank you so much!

Immanuel's Veins by Ted Dekker is up on CFBA with giveaway and bonus review by hubby!

This week, the

Christian Fiction Blog Alliance

is introducing

Immanuel's Veins
Thomas Nelson (September 7, 2010)

by
Ted Dekker

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Ted Dekker is a New York Times best-selling author of more than twenty novels. He is best known for stories which could be broadly described as suspense thrillers with major twists and unforgettable characters, though he has also made a name for himself among fantasy fans.

Early in his career he wrote a number of spiritual thrillers and his novels were lumped in with ‘Christian Fiction’ a surprisingly large category. His later novels are a mix of mainstream novels such as Adam, Thr3e, Skin, Obsessed and BoneMan’s Daughters, and fantasy thrillers that metaphorically explore faith. Best known among these is his Circle Series: Green, Black, Red, White and The Paradise Books: Showdown, Saint, and Sinner.

Dekker was born to missionaries who lived among the headhunter tribes of Indonesia. Because his parents’ work often included extended periods of time away from their children, Dekker describes his early life in a culture to which he was a stranger as both fascinating and lonely. It is this unique upbringing that forced him to rely on his own imagination to create a world in which he belonged.

After leaving Indonesia, Dekker graduated from a multi-cultural high school and took up permanent residence in the United States to study philosophy and religion. Upon earning his Bachelor’s Degree, he entered the corporate world and proceeded to climb the proverbial ladder. But his personal drive left him restless and, after many successful years, he traded corporate life for wide range of entrepreneurial pursuits that included buying and selling businesses, healthcare services, and marketing.

In the early nineties while visiting a friend who had just written a book, Dekker decided to pursue a long held desire to be a novelist. Over the course of two years he wrote two full length novels before starting from scratch and rewriting both. Now fully enamored by the the process and the stories, he realized that storytelling was in his blood and a new obsession to explore truth through story gripped him anew.

He sold his business, moved his family to the mountains of Western Colorado and began writing full-time on his third novel. Two years and three novels later his first novel, Heaven’s Wager, was published.

Now, Dekker’s novels had sold over 3.4 million copies worldwide. Two of his novels, Thr3e and House, have been made into movies with more in production. Dekker resides in Austin, Texas with his wife Lee Ann and two of their daughters.

ABOUT THE BOOK

This story is for everyone--but not everyone is for this story.

It is a dangerous tale of times past. A torrid love story full of deep seduction. A story of terrible longing and bold sacrifice.

Then as now, evil begins its courtship cloaked in light. And the heart embraces what it should flee. Forgetting it once had a truer lover.

With a kiss, evil will ravage body, soul, and mind. Yet there remains hope, because the heart knows no bounds.

Love will prove greater than lust. Sacrifice will overcome seduction. And blood will flow.

Because the battle for the heart is always violently opposed. For those desperate to drink deep from this fountain of life, enter.

But remember, not everyone is for this story.

If you'd like to read the first chapter of Immanuel's Veins, go HERE.

Watch the book trailer:

My answer to the question... What is sacrificial love?

It's the kind of love that comes from God and that Jesus came to the earth to show mankind. It's the kind of love that is more precious than gold. It's the kind of love that is willing to give up everything for the one he or she loves. According to my husband who read this book before I could...it's what Dekker's book Immanuel's Veins is all about.

Here is a picture of me wearing the tee shirt and holding the book that will be given away this week!  To be entered to win the shirt AND the hardcover book, make sure to enter a comment that answers this question... What is sacrificial love? If you don't answer the question, you won't be entered for a chance to win the prizes. I will draw the name of the winner using the Randomizer program next Monday night when I return (9-20-10) from a conference. Oh, and I saved the best for last...my husband reviewed this book (posted below.) My son is begging for it next (and the tee shirt) so he will get my shirt and can show it off at NAU. It's great advertisement, right? 20,000+ students and one handsome freshman (my son) wearing a Dekker shirt around campus. Sweet!

Hubby's book review:

This latest book by Dekker was profound. As Romans 11:33 says... "Oh the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God: How unsearchable are his judgments and his ways past finding out!"

No matter how far the human soul can sink, God's Love can bring us healing. Dekker's book Immanuel's Veins has shown this so powerfully! What an awesome novel! You will be thinking about the story long after you put the book down. The difference of what the enemy wants for us and Christ wants for us is vastly different. Satan came to destroy, but Christ has come to give us abundant life.

Hebrews 2:14 says... "For as much then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, He also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death , that is the devil."

*Now that he's finished with the book, it's my turn, then I mail it to my son at college. He's begging for it.*

Thank you Thomas Nelson for the book to review and for the awesome giveaway!

My friend Melanie Dobson is giving away her latest release!

I just received this letter from Melanie today and I wanted to share it with you (with permission).

Melanie writes:

A few months ago, I traveled to a quaint little town in Indiana to research my first historical novel titled Love Finds You in Liberty, Indiana—part of the Love Finds You series (novels set in small towns across the country). The book officially released June 1st, and it’s my first book to be carried in stores like Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club (yay!) as well as in bookstores and grocery stores across the country.

The story is about a Quaker woman in Liberty who runs an Underground Railroad station for runaway slaves and a young newspaper editor who fights for these same runaways with his pen. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed researching the real-life stories of people who helped runaways in the 1850s, and while I was in Liberty, I was able to crawl around in a few of these old homes to experience (on a very small scale) what it might have felt like to be hidden away in a cramped space while a slave hunter was pounding on the walls, intent on finding you and returning you to slavery.

These were courageous men and women who fled to freedom, and those who helped them demonstrated an amazing courage as well—risking steep fines, imprisonment, and sometimes their own lives to love their neighbors.

If you’d like to see pictures from my trip or get any more info about the Liberty book, you can find it at my website (http://www.melaniedobson.com/). Also, if you’d like to win a free copy of the novel, you can register by leaving a comment on my blog during the next two weeks (that link is also on my website). I will be giving away five copies on June 24th.

Thank you again for all of your encouragement and support!

Blessings,

Melanie

P.S. Please feel free to forward this info to anyone potentially interested in the book giveaway.
