NEW HERBS COLLECTIONS

Several days ago I ordered various herbs to be grown in our tiny garden.
Purchasing at online nursery was a gambling.
sometimes we get good quality products, but sometimes we get something under our expectation.

Long term shipping, made plants got worse.

But I'm lucky this time...
various herbs that I ordered looked so fresh after 3 days shipping.

Sage ....

Rosemary and Stevia...

Five various mints...

Hoping all will grow well and healthy here in our tiny garden.
And our aromatic corner will have more various aroma...

SELF GROWN 'KENCUR'

Finding this in our path way... yes we get some 'kencur' plant.

Kencur (Kaempferia galanga) is used as an herb in cooking in Indonesia,
and especially in Javanese cuisine.
Wedang Beras kencur, which combines dried kencur powder with rice flour, is a particularly popular 'jamu' or herbal drink in Java.
Its leaves are also used in the Javanese dish, 'urap sayur' a kind of salad with shreded coconut.
Kencur  can be bought as a dried rhizome or in powder form at herbal medicine stalls in traditional market.

Actually, they are self grown plant. It might come from thrown rotten rhizome,
or separated rhizome that broken when we dig the soil.

Just pulled out...
The rhizome was too 'young'.

But we can eat the leaves for salad with a bit peppery taste.

And... let the young rhizome grow, so... we planted them soon.
Thanks GOD

DRYING AREA : EXPANSION

Love to spend time here in our drying area.

We use to dry our wet clothes here.
We need more space to put some new plants, especially ornamental plants.

We moved here some plants from the backyard, after my husband reload the old fiber roof.
We also put four seedling tray on the corner to get best place for their growth.

Now... with the new fiber roof, the roof is much clear than before.
And we get more sun shine, great for the plants.
It seem like a green house... LOL

We also removed the old wooden chairs, and put a pair of chair here.

New atmosphere...

Enjoy so many color of blooms here...
Enjoy the breeze...
Enjoy the time...

RED BASIL : THE SECOND BATCH

This is my red basil, the one and only...

About two months ago I bought some vegetable and herb seeds from online nursery.
I bought a small pack of red basil 'Red Rubin'.
I sowed about five seeds, but only three seeds were sprouted.
From three seedlings, only two have established.

The seedlings have moved into individual pots.

A seedling is growing so healthy with reddish leaves, and another has spotted red green leaves.
The spotted leaves is almost similar to my old red basil that grown several years ago, we can check it here.

Hoping all will grow well here... and produce healthy seeds for the next season.

A BUSY AUGUST; PART 1

COMPETITION ON MAKING DRINKS

This is the first post from a serial about our activities during August.
August 1, we started with a competition on making drinks.
That was about creation and innovation.
We have to use local product for these drinks.
Fruit, vegetable, cereal, grain, spices, herbs and many more be a great ingredient.

We only had a limited time to take a discussion what should we make in this competition.

There were seventy seven participants here.

All drink that preserved here was looked awesome and yummy too.

Looks so interesting...

So colorful...

Finally, we made a decision optimizing all that we have.
So, we used mostly fresh ingredients from our home garden.
Traditional spices that mostly used in Indonesian dishes.

Red ginger root, pandan leaves, mint, lemon grass, clove, sappan wood (Caesalpinia sappan), cardamomum fruit and palm sugar.

We boiled the ingredients, then put it on the crockery pot for hot drink, and put in to the bottle for cool drink.

The aroma was so good... so spicy...!
I made the drink and my friend did presentation about this drink.
My friend did presentation to the judges very well.

Although we weren't a winner but we were so happy cause we got lots of lesson and experience here.
