A MOMENT BEFORE PRUNNING

Yesterday, we cut down the papaya tree on the backyard.

Actually, the main shoot have already cut down several months ago.

The side shoots have grown on the top of the tree.

There was 'Kara' bean climbing intensively on this tree.

So lush...
Lots of beans on the top of the tree.

So high, I think it more than 5 meter in height.

But this patch under the tree became shaded and only limited sunshine could penetrate the leaves, so the crop on the raised bed couldn't grow well.
Finally we have to make a chance....
Cut it down...

Prune the bean vine...

And got a bunch of beans.

KARA ON THE WALL

This is on of several varieties of bean that we grow this season.

'Kara' is an perennial bean.

We let the vine climb on the wall, caused by it grow intensively and need strong support.

I took a two seeds of this bean on July last year, but planted it a month later.

It seem too much leaves on the vine, it might caused by too much shade here on our eastern backyard.

But finally this plant produce fresh beans.

Lots of  beans are covered by leaves.

The young beans are so crispy.

Thanks GOD.

FAVA BEAN : FINDING THE VOLUNTEER

On March, my friend gave me 'Kacang Babi' or fava beans as specific material for the agro expo.
My friend gave me on several forms.

Fresh Pods, fresh seeds, and also dried seeds.

After the expo finished, I took home  these fava bean.

I cooked some for snack.

And keep the dry seeds on the kitchen.
Such a shame ... some of the fresh pods became rotten, and I took them on the raised bed to be composted naturally.

But last week, we found some strange seedlings on that raised bed (actually the seedling of thrown rotten fava beans)

And a couple days ago I found this next to the kitchen door.
Then we moved them to the new place, our raised bed.

This is the first time we grow it.
It might be too hot here in our garden.
But we hope they will grow well, and we can pick our own fava beans.

THE SECOND PATCH OF GREEN BEAN THIS WEEK

Buncis or green bean is always grown in our tiny garden all year round.
Our favorite vegetable.

This season, we're growing Tresna, a local variety.

We use to sow the seeds directly into the soil each 6-8 weeks.
When the first flower of the first patch have bloomed, we will sow green bean seeds for the second patch.
So, when the second patch have bloomed too, we will sow seeds for the third patch and more.

And this is our second patch of green bean this current week.
We harvested the first beans yesterday.
We have to prepare the third patch soon.

Thanks GOD...

KACANG UCI : FIRST TRIAL

This is for the first time I grow Kacang Uci or rice bean (Vigna umbellata).

This is the new plant for me.
I have never grown this plant before.

A rare plant, an old fashion plant.
I got the seed from online nursery last year.

Wikipedia said that both of the young tender pods and leaves are edible.
But this plant is mostly grown for its seeds.

A unique pods...

I really want to know when is the best time to harvest the fresh pods.
And also I have no idea how to cook them.

About five months we have waited the vine producing fresh pods.
Very long time, we only saw very lush leaves, but no flower even more pods.
But now, we can find lots of beautiful yellow flowers and little slim pods.

Beautiful flowers...

So lovely...
Thanks GOD...

It seems nothing there, only leaves, actually lots of bean there.
Look... we get a basket of bean this morning.
