Looks like my friend Robert Morse passed away at 90. He was in three Rankin/Bass TV Specials and he treasured his relationship with Rankin/Bass and was a supporter of mine. I will watch How to succeed in business without really trying and Quick, before it melts (where he teams up with my friend George Maharis age 93). Hi, I am a librarian at the State Library of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. In our collection are the papers of P.L. Travers, Australian author of Mary Poppins. In the collection are several Rankin/Bass film treatments for Jack Frost, written by Travers. They date from around 1972. I was wondering if you knew anything about the Travers / Rankin-Bass connection. Clearly her version wasn't made, but I was wondering if this is widely known?Rick Goldschmidt: Yes, her treatments were made for the series The Enchanted World of Danny Kaye, which wasn't picked up by ABC, and only one episode, The Emperor's New Clothes, was made. Arthur Rankin, Jr. mentions that "Mary Poppins lady P.L. Travers in the documentary film from 1972, that I show at all of my presentations, with Jack Davis Presentation art. Punch & Judy with Jerry Lewis and Carol Burnett was to be the next episode on the list, as the Animagic figures and set were created. Jack Frost was ultimately developed into a Rankin/Bass TV special written by Romeo Muller, Jr. in 1979. #pltravers #jackfrost #Rankinbass #marypoppins

Masaki Iizuka remembered
This was a photo I took at the Museum of Broadcast in New York 2003 at the evening with Arthur Rankin, Jr.. I sat with Masaki.
This is my favorite picture I took of him! We were on our way back to Arthur's place after passing Tiffany's.
Masaki talked about how all of the Animagic animators felt they never quite lived up to the legend of Tad Mochinaga and what he did with Rankin/Bass' Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. While the technique on the Rankin/Bass specials progressed, they always looked at that special as the best!
I just learned that one of my dear friends from the Rankin/Bass Productions group, Masaki Iizuka, passed away. Arthur met Masaki during the making of Rankin/Bass' Mad, Mad, Mad Monsters and he became an integral part of the company. Later he would be associate or assistant Producer and a part of the Rankin family. He started his own animation company called PACIFIC ANIMATION CORPORATION (PAC) and would later produce things like The King and I and The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest. When we got together for Arthur's Memorial in July of 2014, Masaki told me his favorite Animagic scene of all the Rankin/Bass Animagic animation was "Peace Berries" in the Rankin/Bass feature film Marco. I agreed that it was tops. Over the holidays I noticed Masaki's name in the credits more, in things like Nestor, the long-eared Donkey, Thundercats and Jack Frost. Masaki was a great help with all of my books and did a great deal of work on the museum in Bermuda, Masterworks, on the Arthur Rankin exhibit "Arthur's Galaxy." The history of the studio was important to him and Masaki will definitely be missed! #masakiiizuka #rankinbassproductions #thundercats #associateproducer
