8 x 8 Mixed Media Canvas with Hometown Craft Papers by Ken Oliver

Hello everyone!  I hope you all had a Happy Halloween and a wonderful weekend.  Our youngest son (12 yrs old) was really on the fence about going trick-or-treating this year.  He decided he wasn't going to go and then at the last minute (which I figured would happen) he changed his mind LOL.  So he threw a costume together really quick with some part from other costumes we have used in the past.

Here is a picture collage I shared on FB over the weekend.  I think through the years this chopped off arm has been a favorite with my husband and the boys--they have all used it at one point in time.  My husband made this a few years ago after going to a Halloween party and seeing one the a friend had made.  It is fun but kinda creepy and freaks people out when you move your fingers but it's all in good fun LOL!

This weekend I also had a little bit of fun creative time just for me--I have to remind myself to just play and have fun sometimes just for the sake of doing it.  Love getting my fingers all inky!

If you follow me on Facebook then you saw the little sneak peek of this canvas that I shared yesterday.  This is a 8 x 8 canvas and I had SO much fun creating it!!

Here is a quick look at the original sheet of paper.

To start I sprayed the sides and edges of the canvas with  Distress Spray Stain-Vintage Photo, Peacock Feathers, and Picket Fence until I achieved a look I liked.  Then I added the main image from the paper.  I cut the lower left portion of the paper to a 7.5 x 7.5 square.  I inked the edges with Tim Holtz Distress Ink Walnut Stain and then I used Plaid® Mod Podge® Matte to adhere that paper to the canvas and I added a layer of Plaid® Mod Podge® Matte on top of the paper.

Then I used a stencil with some Liquitex® Light Modeling Paste to add some interest and texture to the canvas.  After the modeling paste was dry I went over it with Mod Podge.  Next I went over the textures areas with Folk Art Vintage White Acrylic Paint just rubbing it on with my fingers.

Next I added some color to the script texture and the bike using  Faber-Castell PITT Big Brush Pens-Light Cobalt Blue Turquoise.  For the bike I colored directly on the image (in small sections) and rubbed with my fingers to blend the ink before it dried.  On the script texture I added some of the color to my finger and then gently rubber over the top of the text.  I wanted to add a little shimmer too so I used some of the Brushed Pewter Distress Spray Stain and rubbed that on top of the text too.

Here you can see a close up of some of the shimmer.

I fussy cut the image of the clock and added a little color using Tim Holtz Distress Inks-Peacock FeathersWalnut Stain.  Then I laid the clock on top of the canvas and traced around it with a sharpie marker.  I went around the outline for the clock using Faber-Castell PITT Big Brush Pen in Black and blended the color with my fingers before the ink was dry.

I added some dimension to the clock by adding 3D Foam Squares and then since this is a home decor piece I added some hot glue to the foam just to make sure it wouldn't pop off of the canvas.

I love working with the Hometown Craft Papers by Ken Oliver.  They are great for mixed media because inks blend really well and they hold up to the sprays, mod podge and texture paste!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Hugs & Smiles,
Heidi

Mixed Media Happiness Canvas and Fiskar Fuse

Hello everyone!  Today, I have something new, fun and a little different to share with you.  I know for a lot of crafters we have those moments when we see something new or new to us and we are very intrigued with the products and how they work.  Well, for me it's the Fiskars® Fuse Creativity System Die Cutting Machine and the die templates.  To be honest it was actually my husband who asked me if I had heard of these new dies LOL.  He stopped in at Joann's to pick something up for me (yes he is very sweet and shops at the craft stores for me!) and while he was there he saw the new machine and die templates.  I started looking around online and I loved the concept of these dies.  You can do five different techniques with the dies--Die-cut + Letterpress, Die-cut + Press Only, Die-cut Only, Letterpress Only, Press Only.  You can click HERE to see how it works.  Some of the die templates will cut thicker materials such as chipboard and other die templates cut more intricate designs and work best with cardstock.  You can also get expansion packs for more letterpress options.
So are you ready to see a project?  I altered a 8 x 10 canvas and I used the Fiskar Fuse Medium Design Set 101910 - Mirror and Fiskar Fuse Medium Expansion Pack 101910 - Mirror to create the key plate on the canvas.

I just love how the canvas turned out and I love the key plate.  I took a few pictures, but not too many while I was creating.  I just wanted to have fun getting inky lol.

This is how the canvas started out.  I prepped the canvas with some white gesso and then I laid down some color with the Distress Sprays Stains.  I started out using Peeled Paint, Peacock Feathers.

After putting the first couple of colors on the canvas I added some torn pieces from old book pages.  Then I used texture paste and a few stencils to the background.  Here is a close up of the textured doily.  I just kept added sprays, paints and inks as I was going.

Here you can also see some of the dot texture and splatters from the Distress Spray Stains that I flicked on with a paint brush.

Here is a close up of the key plate.  I love the vintage look and feel I was able to achieve using a few different products.

To create the key plate I cut three shapes using black fun foam and on one of the shapes I did the die cut and press only technique.  Then I created another die cut using chipboard.  For this piece I did the die cut and letterpress technique.

Next I cut the key holes from the two die cuts that had been pressed.  I used a craft knife for the chipboard and it was actually easier to use a scissors for the fun foam.

For the top piece I used some VersaMark ink and added Frantage Aged Ivory Embossing Enamel from Stampendous and heat set.  Then inked up the letterpress plate with Jet Black StazOn ink and ran the chipboard piece through the machine again.  Next I sanded and distressed the chipboard piece and once that was done I glued all of the pieces together.  I also added more of the embossing enamel around the outer edges and used a PITT Big Brush Pen Black 199 around the edges.  If you would like to see more of the Fiskar Fuse die templates and machine in action you can click HERE--scroll down just a bit and you will see a few different videos you can click on.

I also used  Vintage Photo and Brushed Pewter Distress Spray Stain and here you can see a little of the brown color.  The brushed pewter is really pretty and leaves a little bit of a shimmer.  I also dry brushed over some of the textured areas with white acrylic paint to make the texture pop a little more.

I think this is one of my favorite parts about the canvas--love this little bird!  This is from an older Prima stencil.  I used some of the Distress Spray Stains and a paint brush to apply the color.

After I added the color to the bird and twig used both the Gelato-Squid Ink and PITT Big Brush Pen Black 199 to edge the canvas, word blocks, around the key plate and the image of the bird.

I'm not really sure what I am going to do with the canvas--but I had SO MUCH FUN creating it!!  Maybe I will put it in my store.  What do you think?  Yes, I am still working on getting the store up and going--hopefully soon!! :)

Thank you so much for stopping by today!

Hugs & Smiles,
Heidi

Ribbons of Holly Card - JustRite Papercraft July New Release Day Seven

Hello everyone!  Today, is day seven of the JustRite® Papercraft July New Release.  If you missed any of the release days please be sure to hop on over the the JustRite Inspiration Blog so you can see all of the new products and projects that the Design Team create.  I know you will be inspired!  For today I was a stamp set with a coordinating SVG file and two background stamps to share with you.

Here is CR-02051 Christmas Vintage Labels Seven Clear Stamps.  This is a great set with several sentiments, frames and a few smaller elements like the holly and berries.

This is the coordinating SVG-02051 SVG Christmas Vintage Labels Seven Digital Cut File Download for CR-02051.  I didn't use the SVG file on my project for today but I wanted to share it with you.

Here is the first background stamp CL-02071 Ribbons of Holly Cling Background Stamp.

Here is the second background stamp CL-02068 Holly Swirls Cling Background Stamp.

Here is the Christmas card that I designed to share with you.  I used the CR-02051 Christmas Vintage Labels Seven Clear Stamps and then I used both of the background stamps, CL-02071 Ribbons of Holly Cling Background Stamp, and CL-02068 Holly Swirls Cling Background Stamp.

I stamped both of the background images using Versa Mark Ink on to white cardstock.  Then I added Ranger Super Fine Detailed Gold Embossing Powder and used a heat tool to heat set.  For the CL-02068 Holly Swirls Cling Background I used the Faber-Castel Green Tea Gelato along with a watercolor brush to watercolor the background.

To create my background I used a portion from each of the stamped backgrounds.

I used one of the sentiments from the CR-02051 Christmas Vintage Labels Seven Clear Stamps.  I used  Versa Mark InkRanger Super Fine Detailed Gold Embossing Powder, and the Faber-Castel Green Tea Gelato to color the tag.  Then I added some May Arts 1.5" Silky Crushed Ribbon Champagneand Metallic String Gold.  I tied a couple of green jingle bells to the gold string.  To finish off the card I added some Petaloo Flowers.

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend and thank you for stopping by today!

Please be sure to visit all of the Design Team Members in the link list below to see what they have created to share with you.

The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store - Birthday Floral Card

Hello everyone!  Today, is my day to post for The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store.  I know it has been a couple of weeks since my last post for TSSRS but as I mentioned in a previous post I had some health issues and had to take a little break.  But I will be back to posting on Fridays for TSSRS.

Here is the card that I designed to share with you.  Water coloring is very trendy right now and on this card I created the stamped and water colored background paper to look like a designer paper.

The look of water color can easily be achieved using Ranger Distress Inks.  You can blot the ink pads on to a craft mat and used a Faber-Castell Mix & Match Deluxe Water Brush to pick up the ink and add color to your paper.  If you don't have a craft mat you can use an acrylic block, a foam plate or even a piece of plastic wrap.  Here are a few little tips--work in a small area, wet the area you want to add color to first with water and then add the color doing this will help the paint to flow better, do one color so section at a time, and heat set in between colors.  For the background I randomly stamped the rose bud image from JustRite® Papercraft CR-02106 Birthday Floral Vintage Labels Eight and Nine Clear Stamps using Memento Rich Cocoa ink.  On the die cut shape I stamped the frame and sentiment from the same stamp set using Versa Mark ink.  I added Ranger Super Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder and heat set using a heat tool.  To add the color I used Picked RaspberryMowed Lawn, and Squeezed Lemonade Ranger Distress Inks.

Here you can see a close up of the watercolor.

To create both of the die cut shapes I used JustRite Custom Dies JB-02087 Vintage Labels Eight Dies.  I layered the die cuts on top of the background paper and then I added some Venise Lace 1.75" - Gabriella White and 3/8" Satin with Knotted Edge Ribbon.  I love the look and feel of both the ribbon and the lace together.  I love the little knots in the ribbon--it has texture and detail but yet still very simple.  I also added a few Melissa Frances White Pearls and a Petaloo Botanica Pink flower.  To add dimension I used 3D Foam Squares in between some of the paper layers and I used EZ Runner® Permanent Strips-Refillable Dispenser 49' to adhere all of the other layers.

I hope you enjoyed the card today and as always you can click on all the photos to enlarge them and all of the supplies are listed below with links.

Please be sure to check out The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store for all of the fantastic paper crafting products and the Blog for inspiration from the Design Team.
