U-Paint Metal Crafts - Acanthus Leaf Scroll Cuff Bracelet with Tutorial

Hello everyone!  Today, I am excited to share my first U-Paint Metal Crafts® project with you.   If you are not familiar with UPMC I encourage you to visit their website.  They have over 300 U-Paint Metal Craft Kits to choose from.  The metal pieces are designed for all Designers, Artists, Makers, DIY Crafters/Hobbyists. The detail on the designs is amazing! The metal pieces can be used for mixed media, home decor, altered art, and even jewelry.  If you have been following my blog for any length of time you know I love to design jewelry.  So it shouldn't be any surprise that my first project is a jewelry piece--and I have to say I love how it turned out!  I also have a step-by-step tutorial to share with you.

Here is a look at the cuff bracelet I designed using a piece of the Acanthus Leaf Scroll Brass Deco - Trim U-Paint Metal Crafts®.  This leaf scroll design is so beautiful!
All supplies are listed and linked below.  :)

1)  To start, cut a piece of the Acanthus Leaf Scroll Brass Deco - Trim to the desired length.  The length will depend on the size of bracelet you would like to make.

2)  Using a metal file smooth the edges on each end of the metal trim piece.

3)  Then wash the metal piece with warm soap and water to remove any dust and oil.

4)  Using a Vintaj™ Filigree Shaping Pliers bend and shape the piece of metal trim to form the shape of the cuff bracelet.

5)  Use Krylon© White Matte Spray Paint to paint all sides of the bracelet.  Be sure to paint the edges too.  The backside of the bracelet will feel a little rough at first but with a couple coats of paint it smooths out.

6)  Using a sponge apply Tonic Studios© NUVO® Embellishment Mousse, 822N Pacific Teal and 807N Aquamarine.  If you haven't used the embellishment mousse before it is very easy to work with. It is smooth and creamy--kind of like whipped butter.  For the best coverage pounce the sponge onto the bracelet instead of trying to wipe it on.

7)  Set aside to dry or use a heat tool to speed up the drying time.  If you use a heat tool please be careful as the metal will become very hot.  So allow the piece some time to cool.

8)  Next, use a piece of Steel Wool Grade #0000 to sand and buff back the paint until some of the metal is revealed.  When working with steel wool you might want to wear a mask.  When sanding the steel wool creates a lot of tiny fibers.

9)  To add the glitter apply a small amount of Beacon Adhesives©, Gem-Tac™ using a Mini Applicator Disposable Adhesive Brush.  If you don't have one of these applicators you can use a small paint brush.  Just be sure to wash the brush right away so the adhesive doesn't dry.  Then sprinkle on some Tonic Studios© NUVO® Pure Sheen Glitter, 720N Champagne.  Whenever I used glitter I use a coffee filter to catch the excess and then it can easily be funneled back into the container.

10)  Set aside to dry.  If you end up with too much glitter in a certain area wait for the adhesive to dry and then gently rub off the excess glitter with your fingers.

11)  Use a toothpick to apply the Beacon Adhesives©, Dazzle Tac Jewelry Glue™ and then add the ButterBeeScraps, SS16 Aquamarine Flat Back Crystals.  Set aside to dry.

12)  For the final step, mix a small amount of ICE Resin®.  Mix ICE Resin® according to the instructions. Then use a brush to apply a thin layer of resin. Be sure not to add resin on top of the crystals, but you can apply it around the edges to secure the crystals even more.  Set aside on a ICE Resin® Studio Sheet to harden and cure.  Approximately 6-8 hours.

If you like to create jewelry this is a really great project and it would make a wonderful gift--for yourself or a friend.  The leafy scroll design is so beautiful!

This aqua blue color is very on trend right now.  I love all of the sparkle from the glitter and crystals.

I hope you enjoyed the step-by-step tutorial.  Don't forget to check out all of the fabulous metal pieces and kits in the U-Paint Metal Crafts® online store.  If you are an Amazon shopper some of the metal kits are also available there.
Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Hugs & Smiles,
Heidi

Spellbinders Media Mixage - Romantic Steampunk Corset Pin

Hello blogging friends! Do you ever have one of those days that just doesn't go as planned?  Well, today was that day for me--LOL!  As a result of the ice storm our power went out for awhile today and it just kind of threw the whole day off.  So needless to say I have been working (off and on) on this blog post and editing pictures for most of the day and now I can finally share it with you.  ;-)

I am so excited about the New  Media Mixage™ line from Spellbinders Creative Arts™ that was introduced at CHA!!  All of us designers have been working behind the scenes on projects for the past several months and now we can finally share about it on our blogs.  Several of the projects we worked on were picked up for different publications so some of that stuff we can't share just yet but I have a new project to share with you today using products from the Media Mixage™ line.

Here is the Romantic Steampunk Corset pin that I designed using MD2-007 Dresses Two (die template), MB6-007 Dresses Two (blank) and MB6-004 Flowers One (blank) from the Media Mixage™ line.  I also used the New Artisan X-plorer™ for the die cutting.

I started with the MD2-007 Dresses Two die template and the Prima Romance Novel  pattern paper and then I used the Artisan X-plorer™ to die cut the shape.  Then I used Beacon ZipDry Adhesive to adhere the pattern paper to the MB6-007 Dresses Two blank.  Once the adhesive was dry I lightly sanded the edges of the paper.

Next using my finger I edged the paper with white acrylic paint.  Then I used an Action Screw Hole Punch to punch the little holes in the blank.  The Action Screw Hole Punch is a great little tool for punching holes in the blanks and it is so easy to use!  All you do is slide the blank in place under the screw and then turn the handle to tighten down and it punches a hole.  This one can do two different size holes.  I picked this up at Hobby Lobby and it was under $10.  I think most of the big box craft stores carry these in the jewelry and beading area.  You can click on the pictures to enlarge them.

After I punched the holes then I lightly added Diamond Stickles on the entire piece.  I added the MB6-004 Flowers One blank to the top, this is one of the small flowers in the set.  I used a round nose pliers to curl the petals on the flower.  Then I added a metal gear to the center with some pearls.

On the bottom half I added some small pieces of chain, metal gears, pearls and jump rings with acrylic crystal drops.

*EDIT--I'm sorry, I totally forgot to add this photo last night!  Here is a picture of the pin back that I used. I used E6000 to adhere the pin back to the back of the blank.

I had so much fun creating this little pin!

Spellbinders is challenging everyone to Explore Beyond with their own creativity.  Don't be afraid to try new things and make it all your own style!!  There is no right or wrong--it's all about you and whatever you like.  Have Fun and CREATE!! ;-)

Hugs & Smiles,
Heidi

The Beauty of a Woman - Jewel Goddess - Framed Home Decor'

Hello blogging friends!  I have a framed home decor' piece that would be perfect for the bedroom or a bathroom--very feminine and shabby chic.

I used the large Goddess die templates from the LF-013 Jewel Goddess from the Julianna Hudgins Collection from Spellbinders for the main focal point.  I also used S5-086 Bitty Blossoms from Donna Salazar Collection from Spellbinders, S4-327 Floral Flourishes die template and GI-004 Fancy Flourish.

I cut/embossed the Goddess using LF-013 Jewel Goddess die template and GI-004 Fancy Flourish with Simply Smooth Ivory paper from Discount Cardstock and then I applied Victorian Velvet Distress Ink to make the embossing pop.  Next I brushed on Liquid Laminate from Beacon Adhesives and sprinkled on the glitter.

I used old book pages, Victorian Velvet Distress Ink and S5-086 Bitty Blossoms to create the little rose.  I brushed more of the Liquid Laminate on to the rose and sprinkled glitter.  The seam binding was Winter White and I used Victorian Velvet Distress Ink to hand tint it.

Ivory pearls were added for a necklace and I also added some tulle at the top of the Goddess and with the bow to soften the look.   I used Hot Glue to adhere the Goddess to the frame.

I added another little rose and a flourish with some pearls to the bottom of the frame.  I used one of the die templates from S4-327 Floral Flourishes to cut/emboss the flourish.  The frame was gold and I dry brushed it with ivory acrylic paint.  When the paint was dry I added Liquid Laminate and sprinkled glitter over the entire frame.  It is so sparkly!!  ;-)

The beautiful quote is from Audry Hepburn. You can click on the images to enlarge them.

Thank you so much for stopping by today!

Heidi

Decorative Foil Rose Pin and Square Petal Top Box

Hello blogging friends! Omgosh it so cold out today and it looks like it could snow! So far we have been lucky and avoided most of the snow, other then a light dusting about a week ago.

Today, I have a tutorial to share with you on how to create the decorative foil rose pin shown above. I made this a few months ago for a pub call but it wasn't one of the projects that got picked up. But on the up side I did have a few projects picked up and now I get to share this one with you. ;-)

To start I used S4-351 Spiral Blossom One and the Grand Calibur along with Premium Craft Foils Delicate Pastels Pink from Spellbinders to cut the die cut shape.

Then I used my paper piercer to roll or curl the edges or each petal on the foil die cut shape.

This is what the die cut looked like when I started to roll the edges.

Once I was finished rolling all of the petals this is what the die cut looked like.

Next I started to roll the foil die cut into the shape of a rose. While doing this I made sure not to roll it too tightly.

Then I used 3-in-1 Advanced Craft Glue from Beacon Adhesives to glue the bottom in place.

I wanted to add some leaves and I also needed a base for my pin so I used S4-328 Foliage and S4-345 Picot Edge Circles to create my die cuts. As you can see from the photo I cut the leaf die cut into three pieces.

Using 3-in-1 Advanced Craft Glue I started to assemble the decorative pin.

Here is a close up picture once all of the pieces were glued together.

I glued a pin back on the backside of the foil rose and and used it to embellish the little gift box.

To create the box I used Simply Smooth White cardstock from Discount Cardstock, LF-012 Square Petal Top Box and GI-004 Fancy Flourish Grand Impressabilities from Spellbinders. Then I used a pretty white ribbon to make a bow on top of the box.

Thank you so much for stopping by today! Now I have to go and start on supper--we are having Creamy Cheesy Wild Rice Soup--Yummo!! I usually add chicken to the soup but we have a lot of leftover turkey so that's going on the soup. I hope you have a great rest of the weekend!!

Hugs & Smiles,
Heidi

Thank You!! - Crafty Secrets CD #2 - Little Birdie Tag

Good morning blogging friends! Before I get started with my projects today (yes, I have some artwork to share!) I want to say a HUGE Thank You to all of you for all of the wonderful comments, emails and phone calls!! Thank you for all of your thoughts, prayers, links, information about books, home remedies and all of your support!!! It means SO much to me!!! I haven't been on the computer much the past several days, I have just been taking it easy and trying to relax and feel better but I have been reading through all of your wonderful emails. Thank You!! Thank You!! THANK YOU!!!!!

I also want to say I guess I was kind of surprised with all the emails from people who also have RA (in the crafting industry), or friends and family who suffer from RA and other diseases that are similar. I want you to know that I am keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Yesterday, I was feeling a little better so last night I sat down to do a little creating. Luckily the past few weeks I was working ahead on several projects so I will still be able to have artwork to post while I am working on feeling better and getting my medication regulated.

Sandy from Crafty Secrets made some Big Announcements yesterday on the Heartwarming Vintage Blog! She is releasing a second CD, Creating With Vintage Illustrations. You can pre-order the CD or it will be available for Black Friday.

The CD is filled with over 200 files and let me tell you the images are Beautiful!! All this week the Crafty Secrets DT will be sharing projects made using the New CD on their blogs. Sandy also has another great announcement so be sure to click HERE for all of the details.

I think the best thing about having digital images is that you have so many choices--and we all LOVE to have choices, right? LOL! Here is one of the projects I made using an image from the New CD2 Creating With Vintage Illustrations.

This sweet little birdie image is in black and white and prefect for coloring. I tried something new, well it's not new but it is new to me. ;-) I have had a set of Prisma colored pencils for almost two and have never really used them. My dear sweet friend, Linda Duke has been telling me (Forever) that I really need to try the Prisma colored pencils. She told me I would love them, but I just kept putting if off. I guess I was thinking that it would be a lot like the watercolor pencils and even through I like the watercolor pencils it always seemed like I really, really had to work to get the colors to blend the way I wanted them. Well, yesterday I went to Linda's blog and she had the most Gorgeous card posted and she colored it with Prisma colored pencils so I thought I just have to give this a try--LOL! I think Linda is the queen of Prisma colored pencils!! Linda, if you read this I hope you are proud of me. ;-)

I printed the image on Simply Smooth Ivory from Discount Cardstock. Then I used a pointed q-tip and baby oil to do the blending and I was very happily surprised at how easy the colors blend. Now I am going to want all the colors!!

I layered the colored image on to a piece of Posh Milk Chocolate Felt from Discount Cardstock and then embellished the tag. The ribbon is from the Shimmer Satin Bright Assortment and I also used Penelope Natural Crochet Lace from Really Reasonable Ribbon. I also added a vintage button at the top.

Along the bottom I added Gold Leaf trim from RRR and 2-Tone Baby Pink Sweetheart Blossom, 5/8'' Baby Pink Open Roses, 1/8'' Burgundy Closed Rose Buds from Wild Orchid Crafts. I just received my first order from Wild Orchid Crafts and I LOVE their products!!

I also added a few tiny green leaves from I Am Roses to mix in with the gold leaf trim and paper flowers.

Thank you so much for stopping by today! I hope you have a wonderful day and things don't get too crazy for everyone trying to get ready for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Hugs & Smiles,
Heidi

Sweet & Sassy Birthday

Good morning blogging friends! Today I have a fun, bright and cheery birthday card to share with you.

Personal, I am not usually one for the brighter colors but I had so much fun coloring this CR-02230 Toppsy Turvy Cake image from JustRite and adding all of the pretty and colorful bling from Want2Scrap®.

I used Copic markers to color the image and then used Spellbinders™ Grand Calibur Die Cutting Machine and S4- Labels Fourteen to cut/emboss the shape. Then I layered the die cut, Nestaboard Labels Fourteen and Nestabling Labels Fourteen Hot Pink Rhinestones. I colored the paper doily with glimmer mist and added some die cut accent pieces from S5-071 Twisted Metal Tags & Accents.

For the rose I used S4-352 Spiral Blossom Two from Spellbinders. Once the rose was rolled I added glimmer mist and glitter to match the Nestabling and Ribbon. The ribbon is from the Shimmer Satin Bright Assortment from Really Reasonable Ribbon. I also added some Baby Bling Turquoise Rhinestones to the cake and corners of the card and Baby Bling White Pearls to the swirl die cut accents.

Thank you so much for stopping by today! I hope you have a wonderful and creative day!!

Hugs & Smiles,
Heidi

Crafty Secrets Design Team Gift Bag/Envelope Challenge

Good morning blogging friends! Today, is the Crafty Secrets Design Team monthly challenge. For this month Sandy and Vicki challenged us to make a gift bag using an envelope. Click HERE to watch a video on how to make the gift bags using an envelope! Each of the Design Team Members picked a theme for their project and I picked Halloween.

I made a Halloween treat bag and a matching Halloween Tag for my project.

I started with a 6 1/4'' x 6 1/4'' envelope. I sealed the envelope and then cut off the fold at the top allowing for the opening. Then I scored the three sides with the folds at 1/2''. To create the decorative edge I used E8-001 Classic Scallop Edgeabilities® from Spellbinders™ and then I inked all the edges with Old Paper Distress Ink.

The pattern paper is from the Creating with Vintage Patterns CD from Crafty Secrets and I inked the edges with Dusty Concord Distress Ink.

I used some of the images and chipboard pieces from Crafty Secrets Halloween Vintage Postcard Kits to embellish the treat bag.

I layered the papers, chipboard pieces and a few Halloween die cuts as shown. Then I added green trim and black lace to the top of the treat bag. I added some Purple Rhinestones along the scalloped border and then I added some glitter for a little sparkle and filled the treat bag with some yummy chocolate!

To create the tag I started with a piece of Simply Smooth Ivory and stamped several images from the Costume Cuties Stamp Set from Crafty Secrets. Then I inked the edges with Old Paper Distress Ink.

I used Copic markers to color the images.

I layered the papers, added glitter and rhinestones as shown and then I added green trim and black lace to the top and bottom of the tag.

In this picture you can see some of the sparkle from the glitter.

Please be sure to visit each of the Design Team Member to see what they have to share with you. With all of the different themes I know I can't wait to see what they created!!

Thank you so much for stopping by today and I hope you have a Fantastic Day!!

Hugs & Smiles,
Heidi
