OPAM (One Project A Month....April 2016)

Gosh this year is just flying by but luckily enough I was able to score two OPAMs this month
Fabric used was a panel and fabric from Anni Downs of Hatched and Patched
The fabric is her latest.....All in a Day

This month's project is a Sewing Machine cover

Complete with a pocket on each side

As I needed the cover NOW I hunted around for some fabric for the lining and came up with one of JoJo's old blue and white checked sheets
It worked a treat and I'm very happy with it!!!

Tutorial for Sewing Machine cover found over here

Litte Lidija was here over the holidays and she inspected the cover,
took it off

and had a chuckle about it all and put it on

and showed off her 'new hat' lol

While she was here she wanted a quick little something made so after she chose fabric, ribbon and button (had to be pink) I made up a little bag for her and now she puts her Mum's old phone into it!!!
Fabric received in a Swap on my recent Hobart trip
Ribbon from an Antique Stationer in Hobart
and I think the button came from Queensland!!!

Thank you so much Peg and Kris for hosting OPAM again this month
I love trying to get something made each month!!!

Blog posts are few and far between lately as I'm still suffering from headaches and migraine when I spend too much time on the computer but learning to restrict myself.  This unfortunately means I can't get around and comment all the time but I do try and get to read my favourite blogs.......

OPAM (One Project A Month).....March 2015

One small item for OPAM this month for the Girls Day in the Country (GDIC) Swap
A little stitchery was provided for us, by Lynette Anderson,  to stitch up and turn into something

I used a tea towel......added a piece of linen and put the stitchery on to it and added some ric rac.

Tutorial for the towel can be found
at Jenni at Elefantz

Thank you Jenni!!!

Only thing is I called it a Stitching Towel.......
a towel one can take with them to lay on the table to protect their work from any sticky marks etc that may be on the table
The back

Kate was the one who received this Swap gift........so pleased it went to a fellow Blogger!!!

Thank you so much Peg and Kris for hosting OPAM!!!

~Wrapped in Paisley~ A New Quilt

Last week I saw on the Fat Quarter site a Tutorial for a Jelly Roll Jam II Quilt-
Shortcut Quilt Series
I was intrigued and went had a look and decided there and then 'I'll do that'!
This is my second Jelly Roll that I have ever used and I got really keen

The Jelly Roll I used was Wrapped in Paisley by Kansas Trouble Quilters
Beautiful rich, dark, warm colours

I printed the pattern out
Looked at the Tutorial
Pattern here

Organized my strips

Sewed them together

Blocks all stitched together

Sorting out the backing strips
The backing is the rest of the strips sewn together
Can't get much easier than that!!!

Last night the backing and quilt top together

The back is together

So happy with this!!!
There are instructions on the pattern for larger sized quilts
So you never know, another day I might just do it again!!!

Thanks so much Fat Quarter Shop and Kimberly for a great Tutorial and Pattern
I'm sure to come back for more!!!

Post Script......I emailed Kimberly and showed her my quilt top and she came back with the following
Hi Dzintra,
Thank you so much for sharing this.  Your quilt is beautiful and I am so happy you made the quilt!  You have definitely made my day!!!

For a tutorial very similar to these go over here

An appliqued tea towel

Scissor Keep

and finally this bag with stitchery
I swear I have enough projects to last me forever but I can't help collecting them
And yes, I will get around to doing them!!!

This weekend there is an Airing of the Quilts up in historic Braidwood, the first town to be listed on the New South Wales Register
And have fun gals to the ones going to Hatched and Patched at Bathurst for a blog meet......one of these days I will hopefully get there....

Happy Weekend....Dzintra xo

Finishing School 2012...and Darling Harbour Quilt Show!!!

Earlier this year I signed up for Finishing School at Steph's Patchwork Moruya...
This entails going once a month with any project and getting advice/help from Jan who can answer anything sewing wise and doesn't think any question is stupid!
Good On You Jan!!!

One of the first things I learnt was how to make a twisted cord on my sewing machine...

I've taken pics of Jan doing this so I can come back to them...

I fell in love with this table runner by Bareroots

here is my one under Steph's one...and I can proudly say I will show it off in this month's OPAM (One Project a Month)

I was able to use Steph's table at another time and Deb assisted me in pinning my Bars Of Gold Quilt altogether......Thanks so much Deb!!!

Jan showed me how to 'tuck' one end of binding into another when finishing off the binding on the quilt...and yes, another for OPAM...
Here one end is pinned down...

and then up again......the last bit of the binding tucks into this one...
What a neat finish this is!!!

How to mitre a corner...

Thanks so much Jan...you have been so helpful!!!

A show-and-tell here...

And check this out...I call it a Fat Quarter Quilt...
great for (spare) fat 1/4's......leftover ones......favourite ones......quick quilts......the list would be endless I think!!!

And here is Karan proudly displaying her quilt......I did take a pic without her boots but this was too cute to let go!!!

I'm loving Finishing School and hope to make more progress on my Quilt of Stitches......

And it's nearly time for a Blogger's Meet at The Craft and Quilt Fair at Darling Harbour where I'll finally get to meet other Kindred Spirits!!!

See you there gals!!!
