Let's Get Stitched...Hobart....2016

Twelve months ago I thought it might be a nice idea to attend Let's Get Stitched in Hobart, Tasmania and Mr Armchair said why not!!!
Very exciting as it was to be my first time to this Event

The time finally arrived
My plane above before boarding

My room in Hobart

Even though I hadn't met some of these gals in person it felt like I knew most of them.......the amazing world of the 'net!!!
Narelle, Helen/Heather (? sorry but I've forgotten), Wendy, Heather, Dawn and Joy

After ordering something to eat I realized I had no cutlery and said so and all these offers came in lol

Group shot...Vicki, Helen/Heather (?) me, Wendy and Dawn again

The next day saw us heading off to our first stop of the day to Helen Stubbings's new Patchwork Shop..... Quarter Inch

Happy shopping here with Wendy

Next stop was New Norfolk........and our second Patchwork Shop for the day

Some old car relics here

After that it was off to the Salmon Ponds where I spotted this cute little hut

and Albino Salmon!!!

Lovely English style gardens were here

Off to Hat Creek Quilts, run by Deirdre Bond Abel, one of the most interesting and lovely Patchwork Shops I have seen
Deirdre's passions are traditional quilts, reproduction cotton prints from the 19th and early 20th Centuries and washed woven wool.
Her shop is actually her home and there are quilts scattered throughout the house.  You will see these passions reflected in the goods that she has to offer.

I couldn't resist purchasing the kit for the above quilt although the colours are a little different

My Kit above........instead of the 'pinky' background for the flowers I think mine will be more 'greeny'
Shez also purchased one so it will be fun to see hers when she has finished and no I haven't started Shez lol

Packed to the Rafters

Quilts scattered throughout the home.......check out that cupboard full

A roll of rich dark felt came home with me

along with 2 fat quarters........one Christmas one and one with my favourite at the moment, fabric with deer on it
I thought that's it until I spotted this lovely bundle of Fat 1/4's

On to Richmond then where I spotted Lavender Ice Cream
Oh my, I have only seen this in Provence, France and had to have some lol
$5 for 1 scoop or $6 for 2......
Not much decision making there!!!
Oh dear, not as intense Lavender flavour but pretty good and the colours fine too

Then a little Challenge for us all
We had to make a Name Badge for Friday night's activities
and holy dooley I'd never made one before
I thought I would sketch one out (I am not a Sketcher) so what made me think of that who knows!!!

I used this little book I purchased at The National Art Gallery
at the Masterpieces from Paris Exhibition
Cover is of Vincent Van Gogh's Bedroom at Arles
(Le Chambre de van Gogh a Arles) 1889

My Badge was to be made for 'Val' who I didn't know
Brief was to use Black and White and Val's favourite colour......Lime Green

Front of Badge

and the back
I also whipped up a little lime green bag for her to put it in

and here I am with Val

My badge made by the lovely Michelle
My favourite colour upon asking was maroon.
I just love it
Thank you so much Michelle

That evening we were asked to wear a Mask and of course I forgot mine
but lucky the girls had spares!!!

That sums up my first full day in Hobart at Let's Get Stitched
A free day the next day and then the Stitching Day
I'll be back with more next post

Till then........Dzintra xo

~Celebrating The Chookshed~

Over the weekend my Blogging Buddy Chooky celebrated 2 years in her 'Chookshed'
She invited Bloggers to join in on the celebrations by virtually sewing solo or with friends
I jumped at the chance and thought I would work on my Diamonds at Large quilt
Details of this quilt are over here

A Layer Cake was used for this
The border is also cut up Layer Cake

as is the binding
A lovely quilt to put together!

I also managed to finish off this little Sewing Wallet

This celebration also offered bubbly (make mine pink) and nibbles
How could I refuse????

Happy Birthday dear Chookyblue and here's to many more celebrations of The Chookshed!!!

Chooky has a poll on her blog if anyone would to check it out
It's about whether she should hold this celebration again!!!

~OPAM and New Projects~

I hope all my lovely readers have had a wonderful Christmas break and are enjoying these lazy days of the New Year!!!

For my final OPAM (One Project a Month) for 2013 I used Anni Downs' Christmas fabric line

and this pattern

to make 2 needlecases and 2 scissor fobs which were my OPAM for October

and this little sewing basket.....I ended up making 2 baskets
1 for me and 1 for my Swap Partner Sandi.
Thank you Peg and Kris for again running OPAM!!!

Meanwhile I have chosen a couple of new projects to work on (I love to start new projects) in the New Year.  The first one is the Sing bag by Anni Downs again.
This bag will be perfect to take along with me to my lessons

I bought the kit last year intending to starting it now!!!

Also I have chosen a quilt from this book Layer Cake, Jelly Roll and Charm Quilts by
Pam and Nicky Lintott

called 'Diamonds at Large'
I'm going to make it for my Brother for his birthday later in the year as he has serious health issues

I'm going to be using a Collections for a Cause Layer Cake that I have been saving for just the right occasion!

Happy New Year and Happy Stitching......love Dzintra

OPAM for February now finished...PHEW!!!

I finally started it last year...

Scissor holder sitting on top of fabric which is to hold a pincushion...

My pincushion and scissor holder...

The pin cushions sits on a fabric covered board with felt underneath...
And I love this set!!!

Thanks so much Peg and Kris for hosting OPAM...
I don't think know I wouldn't be completing an item a month if it wasn't for this!!!

Forecast for this weekend is rain...rain...and more rain...
75% of New South Wales is predicting floods...
Warragamba Dam in Sydney is about to spill over

We are safe here at the moment this coming weekend so thinking perhaps a Cook Up and a bit of sewing will happen...

Happy Weekend and stay safe...Dzintra

Welcome To My World

Hello, my name is Dzintra Ingrid ... have been known as Ingrid and since our Sea Change I have started to use Dzintra ... pronounced without the D ... (but still known as Ingrid, I know, it's confusing ...)

Welcome to my world ... a journal of our Sea Change ... Mum to three wonderful children ... bringing up a daughter with a disability and seeing life through her eyes ... being a new Nanna ... photos ... inspiring quotes ... taking on a cookery course ... the odd recipe ... and trying to get some stitching done amongst all this ...
