~Finishing School~Gardeners Journal and *PARIS* Quilt~

Last week I went to Finishing School at Steph's
Right next to our table was this gorgeous quilt designed by Sarah Fielke
There was a workshop on this recently but I didn't get to go

I took along my Gardener's Journal quilt top and the plan was to get advice from Jan (our teacher) on how to start to make a pieced top
Lots of ideas but I didn't quite know how to get it together
Jan said to measure the quilt......then I squared off some fabric to 38" x 38"
Then make up fabric 10 1/2" wide to fit each side
Easy Peasy...........

And this is how far I got.....YAY

Whilst at Steph's I was admiring this quilt 'Just Can't Cut It'
Truth is I've been admiring it all year

the back
And because I was feeling sad about our little Paris who was killed the day before I just had to have this quilt to snuggle up with and remember her by
And to think this quilt waited all year for me ha ha!!!!!
I bought the 'special fabric' that you can photocopy a photo onto and then I will put it on the back of the quilt with a pic of Paris on it
And the best part......we have had quite a cool snap here and this *Paris* quilt keeps my knee warm which is still a little inflammed and sore

Check out this cute little skirt hanging in the window......just gorgeous
I wouldn't mind one myself

Life's been full on here since May rehearsing every weekend for Pirates of Penzance and then once or twice a week
Then 17 shows over 3 weeks
I'm running way behind in catching up here and in stitching but aim to fix that soon
Thank you everyone for visting and leaving your lovely comments......I appreciate it so much xo

There's a wrap-up party for Pirates coming up tonight and it's also our wedding anniversary as well......so 2 celebrations today!!!!!!!!

Happy Weekend......Dzintra xo

Finishing School 2012...and Darling Harbour Quilt Show!!!

Earlier this year I signed up for Finishing School at Steph's Patchwork Moruya...
This entails going once a month with any project and getting advice/help from Jan who can answer anything sewing wise and doesn't think any question is stupid!
Good On You Jan!!!

One of the first things I learnt was how to make a twisted cord on my sewing machine...

I've taken pics of Jan doing this so I can come back to them...

I fell in love with this table runner by Bareroots

here is my one under Steph's one...and I can proudly say I will show it off in this month's OPAM (One Project a Month)

I was able to use Steph's table at another time and Deb assisted me in pinning my Bars Of Gold Quilt altogether......Thanks so much Deb!!!

Jan showed me how to 'tuck' one end of binding into another when finishing off the binding on the quilt...and yes, another for OPAM...
Here one end is pinned down...

and then up again......the last bit of the binding tucks into this one...
What a neat finish this is!!!

How to mitre a corner...

Thanks so much Jan...you have been so helpful!!!

A show-and-tell here...

And check this out...I call it a Fat Quarter Quilt...
great for (spare) fat 1/4's......leftover ones......favourite ones......quick quilts......the list would be endless I think!!!

And here is Karan proudly displaying her quilt......I did take a pic without her boots but this was too cute to let go!!!

I'm loving Finishing School and hope to make more progress on my Quilt of Stitches......

And it's nearly time for a Blogger's Meet at The Craft and Quilt Fair at Darling Harbour where I'll finally get to meet other Kindred Spirits!!!

See you there gals!!!
