Play - Farrel Tailor - Mood board inspiration

Hey there Dusty Attic Fans!! Farrel here to share with you all my take on this month's mood board. I took my inspiration from the blue, green and brown tones and being outdoors in nature.

And this is what I came up with....
Play by Farrel Tailor
For the background I used Distress Oxides - Cracked Pistachio and Faded Jeans. The stamps I used were Darkroom Door - Numbers Border stamp and Kaisercraft Brick texture stamp.
Blueprint play
For the title I used Blueprint Play and Industrial Barbed Stars. I covered the stars with Prima Rust Effect Paste and used the 2 Distress Oxides and Prima Art Alchemy Waxes in Green Brocade and Lucky Emerald to add highlights. For the Play chipboard, I inked with black ink and then covered with Faded Jeans Distress Oxides.

Industrial stars border and scrolls
I used the same products above for the second Industrial Barbed Stars, Industrial Scrolls and Industrial Border #1. I did cut these pieces into sections to make it fit and make the layout look like it was full.

rust effect paste
For the corrugated cardstock, I painted it first with silver acrylic paint and then applied the Prima Rust Effect Paste. I also covered some of the numbers from Roman Numerals in the rust effect paste.

To finish the layout I splattered using the Rust Effect Paste and Distress Oxides.

Goldilocks - Geraldine

Hi there, Today I am sharing a layout of my daughter from a Fairytale Story Book photo shoot....easy to guess the story here!  I love this Large Woodlands overlay and couldn't resist covering it in the 'New' Dusty Attic Rusting Powder. WOW, look at the amazing colours it creates on this overlay and it is very simple to do.

"Goldilocks"

This is the Dried Rusted overlay before I started to add details.

Canvas by Helena - With a Tutorial

Canvas

This is a canvas that I made using lots of gorgeous Dusty Attic chipboard. The photo is one of my favourites of my darling daughter.

I started with a Rustic Farm Fence (DA0855) behind my photo, I painted the fence white and then distressed it a bit. The new Mini Hinges (DA1006) are just adorable and I decided to make them grungy and rusty as a contrast to all the white and pink on this page. I have a tutorial further down on how I used Dusty Attics new Rusting Powder (DA0995) on the hinges - love this stuff!!

The Birds on a Branch #3 (DA1003) I painted white, misted with light brown glimmer mist and then covered with Clear Gloss Varnish (DA0901) and Clear Crackle Varnish (DA0900). I cut a little piece of the branch and put it into the smaller flower cluster on top of the page.

Here's how I made the rusty hinges: I have used a Mini Hinge, Rusting Powder, Clear Gloss Varnish, White Vinegar in a Mini Spritz Bottle (DA0610). I have also used white gesso.

I first painted the hinge with white gesso.

Before the paint had dried I sprinkled the rusting powder on the chippie, this way no glue is needed. I then sprayed white vinegar on the hinge and let it dry. I added another spray after a while. The effect when the rusting powder reacts to the white vinegar is so cool! It changes color and becomes more brownish - which gives the rusty effect. You may have to add vinegar several times to get the effect you want.

When I was satisfied with my rusty effect, I added the Clear Gloss Varnish and let everything dry.

And here's the hinge when ready - all rusty and pretty, ready to be used on my canvas!
