RetroSketches #84 and The Paper Players #166 - Halloween

Hello again - a double post for me tonight. I can't remember the last time I did that!  I was completely inspired by the sketch this week at RetroSketches #84 - I actually even dreamed about it before I got up and made it (crazy right?).  Take a look at what I made:

And here is the sketch I used:

I saw this sketch and just knew that it would be perfect for using some of my Halloween washi tape. It would also be great for stamp borders, or those little strips of patterned paper (that are so hard to throw away).  I used my grid paper to help me keep my strips straight.  I put the orange and black ones down first and then added the word strip last.  Pretty easy and quick! The hardest part was deciding what to put on for stamps, elements or sentiments (so many ideas).  Since most of my halloween stamps are more along the lines of "cute" not spooky, I had to hunt a bit for what would work well with the slightly dark and spooky tape (skulls) - somehow cute didn't totally cut it.   So I grabbed my retired bat punch and came up with a good mix (I think) between cute and spooky.  Of course I had to add a little glitter - couldn't help myself :o).

I am also entering my card in The Paper Players Challenge #166 - Nance's Theme: Halloween.  It's been a while since I've made one of their challenges so I was glad to be able to pay along for a change.

So here it is the end of my weekend and time to get myself off to bed.  Have a very busy week coming up at work so I need my beauty rest and brain re-charge.  Thanks so much for stopping by to visit me - I'm sure glad that you did.  Til next time...hugs and happy crafting! D

52CCT Challenge #21 - Theme Challenge (Christmas Trees)

Ho Ho Ho - and Hello dear friends and followers.  I went into to Costco this past weekend as was absolutely floored to see the Christmas decorations staring to come out already.  I found myself wondering...Did I miss Halloween somehow? I mean I LOVE to make Christmas cards - in fact they are my favorite type to make. But...REALLY....Christmas decorations already???  Hmmpff!  Not sure that I like that for some reason.  Anyway... let's get back to what I do like and that is to make cards and share them with you for the fabulous 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown (52CCT) challenges.
Ruth has chosen a great theme challenge for us all this week.  She wants to see our Christmas cards with a Christmas tree theme.  Oh what fun!! Second to snowmen and snowflakes I like trees :o)  I had another kraft colored base sitting on my desk from last week's color challenge so I decided to use it.  The CAS style was appealing to me this week so I followed that nudge and this is what I came up with - hope you like it!
Well friends... got lots to do this weekend so I'm gonna get going for now and try to enjoy a little of what's left of our gorgeous fall.  Maybe I'll go buy one or those great big snowmen for my yard and put it up while its warm outside. Ok, now I'm just being silly, so off I go.  Hope to be visiting you soon and leaving comments on your cards for 52CCT #21 - "Christmas Trees" .  Don't forget to go see what my lovely DT teamies have made as well.  They all do such lovely work.
Thanks for stopping by - Hugs!! D

52CCT - Theme Challenge #20 - Holly

Hello dear friends and followers - hope you are doing well.  This week at 52 {Christmas}Card Throwdown we have a theme challenge for you to try. We'd like to see your beautiful Christmas cards using holly in some way, shape or fashion.

I had the craziest week at work this past week which didn't leave me with a lot of time or energy for crafting.  Sometimes being a patterned paper-a-holic has its advantages.  This was one of those occasions and I decided to let my designer paper do most of the work for me - take a look:
This is some retired DSP from Stampin Up called Deck the Halls (it was one of my favorites and I still  have quite a bit of it).  The sentiment is from Close to My Heart.  A little distressing around the edges and viola the card was done.  A very quick and somewhat simple card - just what I needed after a chaotic week.

The rest of the lovely ladies on the 52CCT Design Team have prepared some amazing cards to share with you as well.  I hope you will go visit them and decide to join in on the fun this week at 52CCT - Theme Challenge #20 "Holly".

Can hardly keep my eyes open - I seriously just feel sooooo tired, and am having the dickens of a time typing at the moment so I will say "goodnight" for now.  Til next time...hugs and happy crafting! D

'ABC' Challenges - "Christmas in July", the Paper Players - "Christmas in July", ABC Christmas Challenge - M is for Men or Mice, and Christmas Stampin' All Year Long Challenge #23 - Seeing Stars

Hello dear friends and followers - and a very special hello to my two newest followers, Donna and Mau.  When I first started blogging and sharing my work I was hopeful that people would even look at it. To have reached 50 followers now is just amazing.  I thank each and every one of you for supporting me.

July brings one of my favorite challenges at 'ABC' Challenges called "Christmas in July".  We want to help you get a jump start on your Christmas cards - isn't that nice of us :o) ?  I like to make Christmas cards year-round and find that when Christmas rolls around I have a very nice stash of handmade cards just waiting for the Christmas photo and a note to each of our loved family and friends.  Since I make so many Christmas cards - and most of them are "cutesy" or "whimsical", I decided to challenge myself and try a vintage card this time.  Take a look:

I used soft colors and scuffed up the edges of my layers.  I also sponged around the scuffed edges ever so slightly to give it a bit more of an aged look.  I wasn't too worried if my letters all came through exactly as dark or evenly as the others.  I thought about adding a few spritzes of color with my spritzer tool but was concerned that it would really take away from the words.  I used two colors on this card: Bravo Burgundy and Baked Brown Sugar.  The burgundy looks decidedly darker than the layer, and almost brown when stamped on top of the baked brown sugar.  The saying is a stamp by Stampendous and the three wise men are a stamp from Stampin Up!.  After I finished gluing everything together, I felt that the card looked too "flat" so I added a few adhesive rhinestones at the top and on the star to add a bit more interest.  So what do you know - I made a card that didn't use one bit of patterned paper - lol, very unusual for me.

I do hope that you enjoyed this card and that it sparked some interest for  you to make a Christmas card in July and join our challenge at ABC Challenges - "Christmas in July".  My other lovely teamies have made some beautiful cards to share with you as well.  Each week we give you a variety of different styles to inspire you.  Please pop in and give them a visit too.

Some other fun challenge I've decided to also participate in this week are:
The Paper Players #153 - "Christmas in July"
ABC Christmas Challenge - M is for Men or Mice (I have wisemen)
Christmas Stampin' All Year Long - #23 "Seeing Stars"( I have the star of Bethlehem)

It's Summer time at ABC Challenges

Hello friends and followers hope you are enjoying the start to your week!  Not sure if any of you follow the show Long Island Medium but my daughter and I LOVE that show and Theresa Caputo and we had the opportunity to go see her in a group setting.  My husband, son and our son's girlfriend all decided to tag along for the trip (but not to see the show) so we just made a fun family weekend out of it.

But enough about me.  I'm guessing you popped in to see what the newest challenge is for 'ABC' Challenges and to see what I've made to share with and inspire you.  The theme this week is "Summer" and we want to see what summer represents to you.  Is it sailing, butterflies, bumblebees, flowers, gardening, laying on the beach?  Here's my Summer theme card...
You might not immediately get what the challenge is from this card - but if you are from Montana (or know anyone who is) you will know that rodeos are a big deal in the summer in Montana.  I love rodeos, but unfortunately my allergies from the dust and animals prevent me from attending for very long and from a great far away distance :o(.  My favorite event is the when the kids ride the sheep :o) and my least favorite is the bull riding - scares me to death!!

I made this card for my friend Jeanne who has an "almost" summer birthday in June.  Jeanne loves to wear really fun cowboy boots.  When I showed this card to my husband he said "there's not nearly enough bling on those boots to belong to Jeanne" -  lol.  Purple is also one of Jeanne's favorite colors so I used lots of that.

I stamped my own background added a bit of bling with my Versamark pen and some dazzling diamonds on the stars.  Then I added just  touch more bling with some teeny little rhinestones too.  Of course it couldn't be all sweet and soft so I added a bit of texture with the burlap ribbon and the hemp twine rope.  You can't see it really well in this photo but I also embossed the card base (6" square) and sanded the embossed portion to give it a western feel.

Jeanne loved this card and I hope you did too!  I would love to see what you make this week to share with us at 'ABC' Challenges so go get 'er done!  My lovely DT teamies have also prepared some wonderful cards to share with you so be sure to pop in and visit them as well.

Til next time... hugs and happy crafting! D

ABC Challenges - I {Heart} Animals

Happy Monday friends and followers!  This week the hostess at 'ABC' Challenges is AnnMarie who has chosen the theme of "I {Heart} Animals".  Our DT wants to see your beautiful cards that have an animal (or more) on them.

My favorite animals are dogs and horses (and elephants and giraffes).  But I had colored up this cute little fella a while ago and hadn't ended up using him as planned, so I was excited to see this week's theme as I now had a definite purpose for this penguin.  This could be a valentine's day card, a thank you card, or just a general "I love ya" card.  The other DT members over at 'ABC' Challenges have come up with some really great cards to share with and inspire you - you can see them by clicking here.

What will you create this week with the animal theme?  I can't wait to come visit you and see.  Til next time...hugs and happy crafting! D

52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown - Theme Challenge #17 {Sweet Treats/Holiday Goodies}

Hello friends and followers - happy weekend to you.  The challenge this week at 52CCT is to make a Christmas card that has Christmas goodies/treats depicted on it somewhere.  My favorite Christmas goody is homemade frosted sugar cookies - yum!  My kids and I usually make an enormous batch to share with our family and friends.  I must admit that ours don't usually end up that pretty but they sure are tasty. Here's my card to share with you this week.
Doesn't the lace doily kind of remind you of when your Grandma would put out a plate of cookies on those big lace doilies on the table?  It sure reminds me of that, and I wasn't even going for that - I just thought it would look nice on the card.  I think it adds to the sweet feel of this card.

It's rainy and cold as I write this blog post but I'm actually very thankful for that as we have been so dry here lately.  The rain will really reduce the fire risk as summer approaches, as well as make everything greener.  Finally I am starting to see my flowering trees coming alive with bright fuschia blooms - just LOVE that.  Sadly I have lots of spring cleaning to do so probably won't get as much crafting done as I would like but it must be done as it has been driving me crazy for a couple weeks now (the old "someone's gotta do it" and I guess its gotta be me).  Maybe if it stays rainy all weekend I can take one day to clean up/organize/etc. and the second day to make some more cards - crossing my fingers :o)

Sure hope you will find time in your week to play along with us at 52CCT!  We really enjoyed your submissions from last week's challenge (Red and White) so I'm sure you've got lots of good stuff to share with us this week for the theme challenge as well.  The rest of the DT members have made some awesome cards to share with you as well, please go check them out too.  Til next time... hugs and happy crafting! 52CCT - Embellishment Challenge #16 {Punch Art}

Hello dear blog friends and followers - happy weekend to you!  The challenge this week at 52CCT is an Embellishment Challenge - specifically we want to see you use punched art on your Christmas cards.  I personally love to use punches - I think I'm a bit addicted to them really :o) Here's my card:
I used the following punches to make this darling little elf:
Face - ornament punch. Ears - wing from the 2-Step Bird punch. Hat - Ornament punch, modern label punch, Itty Bitty Shapes punch pack (top of hat). Eyes and nose - Owl punch.

Cute huh?! Sorry that I didn't take pics of all the pieces - but I bet you can figure out how to make this if you wanted now that you know which punches I used.  The hat is just the top half of the ornament punch.

I can't wait to see what you come up with this week using punched pieces on your card.  The other ladies on the DT have come up with some awesome inspiration for you as well - please pop on over to 52CCT and visit them.

Til next time... hugs and happy crafting! D

52CCT - Theme Challenge #16 {Here Comes Santa Clause}

Ho Ho Ho - hello to all of you!  I love this week's challenge at 52CCT - its a theme challenge and the theme is Santa Claus.  I don't care how old I get, I will always believe in Santa - just ask my kids :o)
I made a Santa card with no stamping and all die cuts and punches - take a look:
So I'v got to give credit to a gal by the name of Karen Angel who came up with this idea that I have CASEd (I don't remember where I saw it or her blog address but I had written down her name when I came across it a while ago).  I used the top note Sizzix die for Santa's face and hat. The mustache is two birds from the 2-Step Bird punch.  The texture for the beard and mustache comes from the Manhattan Flower texture folder. The nose is the small oval punch and the eyes are from the Owl Punch.  I hand shaped the hat band and then textured with the Perfect Polka Dots folder.  I used a negative piece from another punched shape to layer my Santa face over.  I like how it turned out - hope you do too :o)

Please go see what the other DT members from 52CCT have made for your inspiration.  I can't wait to see what you come up with this week for our Santa Clause theme challenge at 52CCT!  It's so much fun being a member of this DT and making a card each week toward my stash - but it's even more fun getting to visit your blogs and gaining inspiration from each of you as well.  Thank You!

Til next time...hugs and happy crafting! D

52CCT - Ribbons & Bows, Merry Monday #54, ABC Christmas - F is for Felt and MOJO Monday

Hello dear blog friends and followers - hope this post finds you all doing exceptionally well.  Time for another challenge over at 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown - whoo hoo!  I feel so lucky to be part of this design team as we have such a great team and I get the opportunity to make a Christmas card each week of the year.  I don't know about you, but I find it extremely hard to make myself purchase Christmas cards from a store when I know how much more special it feels to send someone a handmade card - and I know the recipients love it too.    By just making a card a week, by the time November rolls around I will have a great stash to send out to family and friends without the last minute stress of trying to make a bunch. LOVE it!!

So on to the challenge for this week.  Louise is the hostess for a couple more weeks and this week she has picked the theme of ribbons and bows.  Here's what I've prepared for your inspiration this week - hope you like it!
Now the inside:

I am entering this card in the following challenges which helped me with my inspiration:
ABC Christmas Challenges - F is for Felt or Fabric
Merry Monday #54 - Snowman Theme

Hope you will decide to pop on over to the 52CCT site and see what the other lovely ladies have made and then decide to link up your own gorgeous Christmas card creations using ribbons and bows!  Til next time... hugs and happy crafting!

Inspired by #64 - Dr. Seuss

Hello friends! I spent some time on Sunday cruising through some of my favorite challenge sites.  I haven't had much time of late to participate in challenges other than my DT ones.  But I still like to visit them and gain inspiration.  When I popped into Inspired by though I just knew I had to make time to make a card to enter a card for the Dr. Seuss quotes inspiration challenge.

The two quotes that most inspired me for this card are: 1) "Today you are you that is truer than tue. There's no one alive who is youer than you"! and 2) "Why fit in when you were born to stand out?" (I put this one on the inside).

This card is going to my precious niece in college.  She complains 'cause she doesn't get enough mail so I thought I surprise her. I wish I could see her face when she opens it - she has the most beautiful smile - it literally could light up a room.

Well that's it for me today.  Thanks for coming by to visit me - I'm sure glad that you did. Til next time...hugs and happy crafting! D

52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown - February Theme Challenge #6

Hello dear friends and blog followers!  Time for another challenge this week at 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown.  I've been having a lot of fun being the hostess this month for the challenge! Last week I might have stumped some of you a bit with my unusual non-traditional color combo, so this week I decided to choose something a bit easier.  I think that Christmas is just as much - if not actually more - the season of LOVE than valentine's day, so I decided that I want to see a heart(s) on your Christmas cards.  You can also make you card using the word or expression of LOVE instead of (or in addition to) a heart.  Here's what I came up with:
I went with kind of a rustic look to my card this week using a woodgrain pattern from some retired DSP from Stampin Up (Frostwood Lodge).  I used my Sizzix Framelit hearts for the two heart layers and added some sponging to distress a bit.  I also used my favorite dry embossing folder "perfect polka dots".  Hope you like it!  Here's the inside too:

I didn't put a sentiment on the inside so that there would be more room to write.  I used the cut-out frame from one of my hearts to sponge around the inside and create the subtle heart.  It turned out a bit more pink than I was going for - but I like the soft effect.

I hope you will go check out what the rest of the DT at 52CCT has made for your inspiration and then decide to play along with us again this week.  Til next time... hugs and happy crafting!!

Addicted to Stamps and More! Theme Challenge #5 - Nature

Hello friends - so glad you've stopped by to visit me today!  After a nice break for the holidays with our families we at ATS&M are back in the crafting mode and have a great year of challenges planned for you.  The first one of 2013 is the ATS&M Theme challenge #5 - Nature.  We want to see you use something from nature in your creation - flowers, trees, birds, bees, clouds, water, etc. My card today uses the Hummingbird digi from Bugaboo Digis that I've colored with my copic markers - isn't it gorgeous?!  The sentiment is  from a new Stampin Up! set called "Oh, Hello" now available in the Spring catalog.  My photo is kind of dark toward the outer edge but hopefully you can see the embossing that I've added to the card base from the SU square lattice folder (one of my favs).  Here's another look:
And the inside (three cards for 2013 both decorated on the inside - doing good on my resolution so far :o) ):
The sentiment on the inside is from Stampin Up! called "Trust God".  I had printed the first digi image smaller than I wanted so I snipped out the corner from the first one and used it on the inside.

We had such great participation last year at Addicted to Stamps and More! and we hope that you will continue to join the fun and enter your beautiful creations each week.  I love to visit your blogs and gain inspiration from each of you.  The other ladies on the DT have prepared some gorgeous cards for your inspiration as well - please go visit them and leave a little love.  Til next time.... hugs and happy crafting!

52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown - Theme Challenge #12

Hello friends - here it is almost Christmas. What a blessed time of the year to celebrate the birth of our precious Saviour and to celebrate our connections with family and friends and to share our joy!  This is the last challenge for 2012 from the DT at 52 {Christmas}Card Throwdown. We wanted to have a little break to enjoy the season with our families, but we still wanted to get one last fun challenge in - with a "bang".  Our hostess this week is Jacqueline and she has the really fun Theme Challenge #12 of Christmas Crackers.  Do you know what Christmas Crackers are?  I didn't :o)  Here's what Jacqueline told me "Christmas crackers in the UK are like table favours, they are cylindrical and have centres that resemble toilet tissue middles. They have small gifts inside and a long strip of paper that when the two ends of the cracker is pulled go crack!"  Now that sounds almost like fireworks for Christmas to me :o) and so much fun that I might have to try to find some.   Here's what I came up with:
My Christmas cracker has (had) lots of confetti in it.  As you can see, I took direct inspiration from the photo and the explanation of what a Christmas cracker is.  You can Interpret this as you wish - images of crackers, hats, toys confetti etc - you can even do a joke card (as in you crack me up!) it's up to you.  The rest of the DT has come up with some other fun interpretations of this challenge that you will want to see.  So please pop on over to the 52CCT site and visit each of their blogs from there.

Hope you can squish in one more week with us this year!  I can't wait to see what you come up with!  Til next time... MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS YA'ALL!  Hugs to each and every one of you.

52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown - Theme Challenge #11 {Scripture Verse}

Hello lovely friends and blog followers!  We  have a terrific theme challenge for you this week at 52{Christmas} Card Throwdown.  We want to see your cards/creations using a scripture verse as your main element.  Here's what I came up with:

I decided to keep it as CAS so that the scripture verse stands out. Of course, I'm no good at one layer cards so I added some depth by using my Labels framelits as well as the snowburst texture folder (retired SU).  I sponged around the main image with Summer Starfruit ink and also gave this a shot of color around the outer edges as well.  The sentiment is stamped in gumball green.

I made another one that I will share with you later in the week - this one was my daughter's favorite so I chose to share it first.  Hope you will decide to join us this week at 52CCT - I can't wait to see what you create.  Please pop on over and see what the rest of the DT has made - can  you say GORGEOUS?!  Til next time... Hugs and Happy Crafting!!

Addicted to Stamps and More! - Flowers

Hello dear friends and blog followers - feeling a bit under the weather yesterday and today so a quick card and a brief post today.  The theme this week at the fabulous Addicted to Stamps and More! challenge is "Flowers".  It's a nice cheery theme especially since we are not seeing many flowers anymore here in Montana - in fact my poor flower bed really needs to be cleaned up and readied for winter.  Only have a couple more days to get it done as we are expecting snow (90%) starting Thursday - yuck! Oh well... at least I can make flowery cards to bring some color and sunshine to someone's life :o)

Hope you will decide to join us this week and share you beautiful flower creations wtih us.  The DT members over at ATS&M have prepared some fabulous cards for your inspiration and viewing pleasure.

I am also entering this card in the Less is More challenge - week 92 "Pink".
Thanks so much for stopping in to visit me. Til next time - Hugs and Happy Crafting!! D

52{Christmas} Card Throwdown - Theme Challenge #10 {Fairy Lights}

Hello and Happy Saturday to all of you!! Today's challenge at 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown is a Theme Challenge (see below)
Oh goodness what a fun theme - as usual so many possibilities to be explored and created! Here's what I came up with for your inspiration this week:
I decided it might be fun to go completely non-traditional in my color choice this week.  I've been seeing a lot about neon lately as a popular trend so I thought I'd give that a go.  I first colored my images with Copic markers and then added a drop of Crystal Effects to each little light to give it some shine and depth (it doesn't show up nearly as well in the photo as it does in real life ). I love their happy little faces :o)  way too cute.

I encourage you to pop on over to our challenge site at 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown and see the other fabulous creations our DT members have come up with for this theme.  Pop on into their blogs and leave them a note when you see what you like.  Hope you'll decide to play along with us.  I can't wait to see what you come up with this week and look forward to visiting your blogs.

I'm also entering this card in the Christmas Cards All Year Round October Challenge which is to
Create a card using a non traditional image with traditional Christmas colours
OR
Create a card with a traditional Christmas image using non traditional colours.
I think you have figured out which one I'm entering under (hint... its neon :o) ).

Til next time - Hugs and Happy Crafting!! Please come back to visit again.

Supplies: Stamp and sentiment - Cozy Christmas from Lawn Fawn.  Cardstock - Pixie Pink (retired Stampin Up!), Tempting Turquoise and Whisper White (both SU).  Ink - Memento black, Green Galore (retired), Pixie Pink (retired) and Tempting Turquoise (all SU).  Embossing folder (SU). Other - Crystal Effects (SU).

52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown - Theme Challenge #9

Hello friends!  The challenge this week at 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown is a Theme challenge - "Gifts of the Season".  There's a whole bunch you can take away from this theme and we just can't wait to see what you come up with!  Here is my card to share with you today - hope you like it!

I decided to make my card look like a package.  The new scalloped tulle ribbon from the Stampin Up!Holiday Mini catalog sure came in handy for this card.  It's a tad bulky with the big bow but it isn't heavy and does squish down quite a bit to put in an envelope (will probably still need extra postage though).   Here's a couple other views:

Supplies (all from Stampin Up!): Cardstock - Cherry Cobbler and Very Vanilla.  Stamp (sentiment) from No Peeking stamped with Cherry Cobbler ink.  I used the ornament punch to make my tag and inked ever so lightly around it with a finger daubler just to give it a little definition.  Ribbon - NEW 3/8" Scalloped Tulle in Cherry Cobbler (comes in two other colors and is great for wrapping actual packages too).  DSP is from the Festival Prints Designer Paper Stack (NEW in the Holiday mini - 48 sheets of various patterns in 4 1/2 x 6 1/2 size each).  Other - twine and dimension dots.
