Meet The Chins!

Hi Everyone!  For my last mani of the month I'm hauling out all the cuteness I can muster.  My Animal Guardian Mani today is--chinchilla!  I have 10 very cute, very furry and very lovable chinchillas.  Do I think I have too many--NO

The everyday average Joe probably doesn't have 10 chinchillas, but I can also tell you there are everyday average Joe's with a lot more!  Mine are pets.  I don't really care about their fur quality (although their fur health is important to me).  I don't care if they are large or small, and I don't breed them.

They bring me a great deal of joy just by being their naturally cute self and while babies are quite cute, there are ALOT of things that can wrong in breeding.  I just don't want to (ever) open up that can or worms.

I have several colors--beige, light tan, white mosiac, pink white, violet, ebony and standard.  I have 6 girls and 4 boys.  My girls have cagemates and live together in peaceful harmony--my boys fight with each other so separate cages for each of them.

All of them live in the bedroom with me.  Yep every single one of them.  I have 2 enormous cages that each have 3 separate units and I have a small cage for one boy with special needs.  My special needs boy, Herman, was born with only one complete limb.  He only has one whole back leg.  Yep that's right, he doesn't have paws and he's missing the foot on his other back limb.  Despite all the odds stacked against him,  Herman is a happy and healthy chinchilla.  He can run and hop but we worry about him jumping and breaking the only good limb he has therefore he's in a small cage.

My mani today is the best chinchilla I could get on a finger--I think we all know when it comes to freehand I just don't have the skills!
The first Essie I ever bought--can you guess the name?
Not really a standard chinchilla color but it will do!
Chinchillas have LOTS of whiskers, I just couldn't fit in on my little guy!

Now what you really want to see--my chinchilla crew!

Bobo is my first chinchilla.  I was told she was a boy hence the name LOL!  Because they told me she was a boy she was put in with a boy I had--Gordon before I learned all about being a good chinchilla owner--Bobo had a daughter GiGi.
Sadly Gordon was injured in a recliner--again when I didn't know about being a good chinchilla owner, and he had to be put down. GiGi stands for Gordon's Girl and she looks an awful lot like her daddy.
Abigail is the next girlie I got
I lovingly refer to her as my "charlie brown Christmas tree" chinchilla because she has bad everything lol!  She had some bad teeth for a while but those are fine now, she's missing some toes and she has really awful fur for the chinchilla world, BUT she's my adorable girl and I love her!

Abigail lives with Solange, who we refer to as Princess Solange.  She is the total opposite of Abigail--she has stunning fur and is quite gorgeous, albeit very shy
Here's on of my favorite pics of the girls together sleeping in their hammock!
Now those are some cute nose's!

The next girlie I got is Bronwyn.  She is a white mosiac--a very lovely girl
But check out that pic on the bottom!  She loves to sleep like this in her tube LOL!  Bronwyn is a cage mate with Baby Lisa.

Baby Lisa isn't a baby.  She is named after my beautiful sister, Lisa, who died from breast cancer in 2009.  Baby Lisa was born on the 4th of July and was given to me by a dear friend on mine who knew I wanted a pink white girl to name after Lisa.  My sister Lisa saw baby pictures of her before she died on July 15th.  The day I brought Baby Lisa chin home to live with us was on my sister Lisa's, birthday
She is a fat rollie pollie girl who HATES taking her dust bath!  Oh my goodness she is so haggy looking most of the time lol!

I swore I was going to ever have boys again after Gordon.  But I knew someone looking for a home for their chinchilla, Lenny.  Her daughter became severely allergic to him.  I had no intentions of getting him as I had just purchased Solange.  But when I found out they were feeding him mini marshmallows and popcorn as a treat I drove right out there and picked him up.  He's the oldest chinchilla I have--he's an old man at the ripe age of 13
Leonard is by far the goofiest guy we have!  He loves to sleep in all sorts of weird ways, especially loves his fishbowl in the summer!
My other 2 boys I actually got together, Mick St John--yes named after the TV Vampire Private Detective--you know back when Moonlight was on and was SO cool but stupid CBS cancelled it BEFORE the vampire craze took off!  And Wesley.  They were born just a month apart and the lived together in harmony for about a year.  But then they started fighting and had to be separated.

Mick St. John can be a real handful sometimes!!!!
While Wesley is the complete opposite and real sweetheart.

Here they are in better times, when they got along LOL!

Last but not least is my sweet boy Herman.  His smaller cage has a couple of shelves for him to jump on and he loves to sleep in a fleece tube like everyone else.  He doesn't have a wheel, nor does he have a hammock
You should be able to see his lack of appendages in some of these pics.  It doesn't matter though, he's the same as all my chinchillas, nothing stops him from getting around!

This is a shot of the tower o chins in my room.  They fit in there just fine
So that's it!  That's all my chinchilla crew! I love them and they give us a lot of enjoyment!

Thanks for stopping by!! I hope you all have a fantastic day!

Somewhere Over The Rainbow Bridge

Hi Everyone!  Happy Saturday!  I'm not sure what's going on but there's a huge yellow ball in the sky by us today.  I don't really know what it is, it doesn't appear to be giving off any sort of warmth but it looks pretty!

I'm wearing a mani today to celebrate and honor the life of my two sweet boys, Sam & Baxter who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge.  It was a sad journey to be sure, but over that rainbow bridge blue birds sing and troubles melt like lemon drops and cats get all the catnip they want!

It took me awhile to think of what I wanted to do for these two boys, who were brothers, because they were SO special to me.  Long story short, I was supposed to be getting a kitten from a girl at work who had a neighbor with a litter living under their porch.  My son was 11 at the time and I thought bringing a cat into our lives would be a good thing.  On the very day I was going to stop over at work and get one the girl told me the mother had taken them all and they were no longer there.

YIKES!  Try coming home and telling that to an 11 year old kid!  Talk about heartbreak!

To the rescue came another coworker who said her mother in law had 2 kittens she was trying to find a good home for because he did daycare and one of the children she watched was allergic so the kittens had to be locked away in the basement during the day.  She asked me if I was interested and I said yes I will take one for sure!

I drove over there in the pouring rain and when I got there she already had a closed up cardboard box for me so I didn't even get a chance to see what our new kitten looked like.  I dashed back to the car and started for home.  Curiosity getting the best of me I opened the box at a stop light and sitting in the box were two not one kittens that were more 8 months old than 2.  The minute I got home I took them out of the box and they both followed me right into the bathroom and laid down in there while Nature called.

How was I going to break up 2 brothers???!!! Simple I wasn't.  I honestly have no idea what their first names were with their first family but we named them Sam and Baxter.  Sam was always laying on me so he got the nickname Sam the Barnacle Cat and Baxter was so handsome he got the nickname Baxter the Boyfriend Cat.  They were the loves of our lives for many years.  I can't wait to see them again one day over that rainbow bridge!

I chose a simple design for today's Animal Guardian Ribbon mani using Ninja Polish's Divinity because just like All Dogs--Cats Go To Heaven!
I took ALOT of shots of this mani at work where the lighting is best to show the shifts of Divinity--thankfully my coworkers know I'm a nail blogger AND they don't think I'm too crazy!
The color shifts are pretty amazing
Stunning, if you will
It's a good color to have on when you're bored so you can stare at it
and tilt your hand back and forth and make it change!
Even thumbie loves it!
Here's a shot of it in the full light of the kitchen, because as I mentioned earlier, the yellow ball up in the sky is emitting no warmth
There's a lot of sparkly goodness in the light, but in the shade you really see the true beauty of this gorgeous polish!
Duochromes are fabulous for that very reason, they look gorgeous in both sun AND shade!

Ninja Polish Divinity can be purchased via Ninja Polish .  Rhonni has outdone herself with some STUNNING colors exclusive to Ninja Polish.

And these are my boys who've crossed The Rainbow Bridge
Sammie my sweet Barnacle Cat

And Baxter my sweet Boyfriend Cat
Not a day goes by I don't miss them both.

Cats are done for my Animal Guardian Ribbon--I just have to work on the chinchillas!

Meet Roscoe!

Hi Everyone!  In keeping with my Prevention of Cruelty To Animals week I thought I'd give you the chance to meet Roscoe!  He's the baby kitty we got for Baxter but sadly only had him a couple of months before Baxter had to be put to sleep.  The second I saw Roscoe I fell in love with him.  I have long believed orange boy cats are the nicest cats on the planet.  I feel I should know as I am now on my 4th orange boy cat and yes every single one of them has been the sweetest cat.  I was lucky enough to get both of my current boys from my fab friend Schlee from work.

These are the first pictures I saw of him, the minute she showed me the pics I knew I was going to bring him home!
He's SO tiny!
In fact he was so tiny we called him Teeny Baby most of the time LOL.  He grabbed a hold of hearts right from the start!

That was one of his first nights here--SO adorable!
He's always loved the couch--well as soon as he could get up there that is
Almost falling off there but then he figured out how to lay like this!
Ah!!! much better!  We were worried he'd lose his "floof" but nope!  Check out this tail!!
So I HAD to try a Roscoe mani to go with my Rufus mani
I tried for an orange striped tiger mani
But the truth is just because you call them an "orange" striped cat doesn't mean they are lol!
My heart hurt alot when I lost Baxter.  I was so glad God sent me to Roscoe because he helped heal it.  And I know Baxter wanted me to be happy and share my heart again.  On the first night I had to sleep without Baxter, who ALWAYS slept on my pillow next to me, my son took this picture of Roscoe
This is where my Baxtie used to lay.  I miss him but am so glad to have Roscoe aka Teeny Baby in my life!

Keep watching for more Animal Guardian Ribbon manis!  I still have the chinchillas to do!!!

Meet Rufus!

Hi Everyone!

I'm picking up with my Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals week with a special manicure I did.  Last Fall I had to have my sweet boy Baxter put to sleep at 12 years of age.  He had become very sick what appeared to be cancer.  We could have put him through a slew of tests but the doctor felt most likely he wouldn't respond to any treatment.  I was devastated.  This happened to us just one month after the death of my father.  Baxter was my sweet boy--my boyfriend cat, so I really did not know how I would go on.  A little while before Baxter joined his brother, Sam, over the rainbow bridge we had gotten a little boy kitten for him.  An orange boy we named Roscoe.  For years we had always had 2 boy cats--brothers, and now Roscoe was alone.  I didn't think about it too long before deciding we need Roscoe to have a friend.  When we went to look at Roscoe we had also seen this stunning cat that appeared Siamese.  He wasn't as friendly as Roscoe so that day Roscoe went home with us.  Now a couple months later we were back to pick up Rufus.

At first he was SO scared to be away from the farm.  All he did for days and days and days and days and days was hide under the bed.  I would often say "he's never going to come out from under there"  In time Roscoe lured him out and the two of them became great pals and played together.  It wasn't long before Rufus warmed up to us and he became a very sweet loving boy!  And he's SO handsome!

This is him the very first day we brought him home
I'm told he is what's called a snow shoe Siamese.  Look at his little white mustache!!

This is how he loves to lay on the couch!
He sprawls out on that baby
Sometimes he sits on the end though, looking handsome
Isn't he gorgeous?!

I wanted to do a mani that looked like him

How'd I do???
Cute little Rufus on my fingertips!

I'm glad I decided to get a 'brother' for Roscoe.  Rufus has been a wonderful addition to our family.  He snuggles with me on the couch and sleeps with me every night.

Make sure you check out all the cool Animal Guardian Ribbon mani's this week!

Doggone It!!! Please be nice to animals!

Hi Everyone!! Did you know April is Prevention OF Cruelty To Animals Month?  There are some causes we are all well aware of and others not so much.  In addition to Autism Awareness Month we have the orange Animal Guardian Ribbon.

I'm an animal lover, pretty much all animals--I'm afraid of bats and not overly fond of reptiles BUT I appreciate the beauty in them.  I've grown up with pets and continue to have pets in my adult life.  I one hundred percent believe pets enrich our lives.  A happy person is someone with a pet!  Currently I have chinchillas and cats--they don't play together, that's a recipe for disaster.  They have learned to cohabit together though.

I'm supporting the orange Animal Guardian ribbon with a cute little mani today!
When I was a girl growing up we had 2 dogs, Heidi a dachshund, and Beauregard an English Springer Spaniel.  Beau was my dad's hunting dog.I don't remember Heidi as a puppy but Beauregard I sure do, OMG he was SO cute!  I loved both of them TONS and had a lot of fun times with them growing up.
If you have the chance to love an animal please do so!  They are truly, truly the one and only thing in this world that loves unconditionally.  Animals do not care how young or old you are, if you are fat or skinny.  They don't care if you are rich or poor.  They just love you for you.

My mani today is done with Julie G Gumdrops in Tangerine Dream and stamped using SH08.

Some of my friends are supporting the Animal Guardian Ribbon this month too!!
